Chapter 78 Jealousy

On his way back, Lu Huailin happened to see Lin Yifei carefully helping Qiao Shuhui walk.

Seeing Lu Huailin carrying his own things, Lin Yifei blurted out, "Commander Lu, why are you alone? Where's Xiaohan?"

Lin Yifei was stunned when he said those words.

Qiao Shuhui also subconsciously grabbed Lin Yifei's arm tightly.

When Lu Huailin heard Lin Yifei call his wife Xiaohan, he started to feel jealous, since he himself hadn't called her that affectionately.

Lu Huailin's face turned cold, and he said expressionlessly, "Commander Lin, you're not familiar with my wife, so calling her Xiaohan is probably inappropriate."

After speaking, he glanced at Lin Yifei's wife and saw that she was holding Lin Yifei's arm tightly.

Lin Yifei snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Lu Huailin with a smile, saying, "It's just that my wife is pregnant, and I was so happy that I didn't think much about it. I'll definitely be more careful next time."

"Commander Lu is getting on in years, he should hurry up and have a child with his sister-in-law."

After saying that, he picked up his things and strode past them.

Qiao Shuhui and Lin Yifei walked side by side in silence, neither of them speaking.

After arriving home

With tears streaming down her face, Qiao Shuhui looked into Lin Yifei's eyes and asked, "Do you like Gu Yihan?"

When Lin Yifei saw Qiao Shuhui crying, he was about to ask what was wrong when he was startled by her words and quickly scolded her, "What nonsense are you talking about? How could I possibly like her?"

Seeing her crying so hard, Lin Yifei stepped forward and wiped away Qiao Shuhui's tears, saying, "Before Gu Yihan came to the army, I only met her once. How could I possibly like her?"

After hearing what Lin Yifei said, Qiao Shuhui immediately burst into laughter through her tears.

She threw herself into Lin Yifei's arms and said, "I knew it, Brother Yifei likes me the most."

Lin Yifei embraced Qiao Shuhui and patted her back reassuringly, saying, "I even fell out with my family to marry you. Doesn't that prove my feelings for you?"

Qiao Shuhui buried her face in Lin Yifei's chest, thinking to herself, "She will definitely not give Lin Yifei up. After the baby is born, they will be a family forever."

On the other side

Gu Yihan dozed off for a while, but when she woke up, she didn't dare to go back to sleep, worried that if she slept too much now, she wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

"Wife, open the door," Lu Huailin called out from the doorway.

Hearing Lu Huailin's shout, Gu Yihan walked out of the bedroom, removed the latch, and opened the door.

Gu Yihan watched as Lu Huailin put the things he bought into the kitchen, and then she pointed to the neighbor's yard.

He muttered, "It's that Lan Cao again. She came to me and said that Zhao Ju was gossiping about me outside, saying that I married you through some improper means."

"Do you think I'm an idiot? I've known Zhao Ju for so long, how could I not know her character?"

Seeing Gu Yihan following him in and out, Lu Huailin couldn't help but complain.

He laughed and said, "I'll talk to Brigade Commander Zhang about giving these idle military wives a political education class."

Gu Yihan stared at Lu Huailin in disbelief and asked, "A political education class?"

Lu Huailin took Gu Yihan's hand and explained as they walked, "The Kuncheng Military Region has two divisions, and there are quite a few people who meet the requirements to accompany the troops."

Lu Huailin held Gu Yihan as they sat on the wooden sofa in the living room.

He patiently explained, "Not every military spouse has the opportunity to receive an education. Most of them come from rural areas and do not have the opportunity to receive an education."

"The men in the family who do not meet the requirements for accompanying the military stay in their hometown to take care of the elderly and children. Even when they are eligible to accompany the military, they cannot change their established habits."

Gu Yihan listened attentively. She knew that being a military wife was tough, but because she hadn't experienced it herself, she couldn't truly understand.

Lu Huailin rested his chin on Gu Yihan's shoulder and said softly, "So, I support you going to work. I don't want to wait until I'm on a mission."

Lu Huailin paused for a moment, then continued, "You can at least be distracted at work. I don't want you to focus all your attention on me, guarding an empty house and worrying about my safety."

Hearing Lu Huailin's deep voice, Gu Yihan's nose tingled and tears welled up in her eyes. She said in a sob, "No matter what you do, you must never forget that I'm still waiting for you at home."

Lu Huailin held Gu Yi tightly in his arms and said, "Wife, don't worry."

Lu Huailin then steered the conversation back to the issue of the family compound: "So, I don't need you to compromise yourself to get along well with the families."

"Do as you please. It doesn't matter if you don't get along. In your man's heart, you are the best."

Gu Yihan blushed slightly and glared at Lu Huailin, saying, "I think you're just glib."

After Gu Yihan finished speaking, she got up and went straight to the kitchen, saying to Lu Huailin, "You wash the vegetables, I'll cook."

"Coming!" Lu Huailin said, and then he and Gu Yihan started preparing the vegetables together, cooking together.

Gu Yihan brought the prepared dishes to the dining table in the living room: stir-fried potatoes with meat, stir-fried loofah with eggs, and tomato and egg soup with water from her space added.

Gu Yihan thought that when cooking at home, she should add more water from the space, which would be good for Lu Huailin.

Lu Huailin couldn't wait to pick up a piece of food with his chopsticks. While eating, he looked at Gu Yihan with an exaggerated expression and said, "My wife is still the best cook."

Gu Yihan rolled her eyes at him and said, "Eat quickly, I need to rest early after I finish eating, I have to report to the textile factory tomorrow."

Gu Yihan has a small appetite and was full after eating very little. Seeing this, Lu Huailin asked worriedly, "Why don't you eat more?"

Gu Yihan put down her bowl and met Lu Huailin's worried gaze: "I don't eat much, you eat all the food, don't waste it, I'll boil water to wash up."

After saying that, Gu Yihan got up and walked into the yard, looking at the bathroom near the kitchen.

What she likes most about this courtyard is that it has a separate toilet and shower room, so she doesn't have to fight for a public toilet outside.

Lu Huailin quickly finished the food on the table, went to the kitchen to wash the dishes, took a quick shower, and headed straight to the bedroom.

Lu Huailin saw Gu Yihan sitting at the dressing table applying face cream.

He leaned down and kissed Gu Yihan's neck, teasing her so much that she shrank back before saying in a hoarse voice, "Wife, tonight is our wedding night."

After saying that, he swept her up in his arms. Gu Yihan wrapped her arms around Lu Huailin's neck and exclaimed instinctively, "Turn off the lights!"

Lu Huailin held Gu Yihan and turned off the lights.

In the darkness, the room was extremely quiet, and Lu Huailin's heavy breathing could be clearly heard.

It was the first time for both of them, so they weren't very skilled. Lu Huailin quickly went from being unfamiliar with the task to being completely in control, and he tormented Gu Yihan several times before letting her go.
