In 2023, swimmer Jiang Jiaojiao died saving a drowning child during a seaside team-building activity.
In 1964, Lin Baoni saved a drowning soldier but died from exhaustion in the sea.
Ji...
Back home, Bonnie still couldn't figure out why her father suddenly wanted to separate the family.
"What are you thinking about? Shaking your head one minute, frowning the next?"
After Gu Ye finished eating, he played wildly with Liu Jiu and San Qi for a while, exhausting the two little ones so much that they fell asleep. He turned around and saw his wife staring blankly.
"My uncle told me today that my dad is planning to separate the family property. I still don't understand why he suddenly wants to separate the family property, or what the reason is."
"Dad must have his reasons for wanting to divide the family property, and Grandpa definitely agrees with it. Don't overthink it. If you're really curious, just ask Dad when you get back in a couple of days. Hurry up and get ready for bed, or you won't get any sleep tonight."
Gu Ye roughly understood why his father-in-law wanted to separate the family property. According to his observation, his brother-in-law and his wife probably had some resentment towards Bao Ni, and since his mother-in-law stopped working, they had become hands-off managers.
His daughter, Bao Ni, has a cheerful personality and always thinks positively, rarely considering the darker side. Therefore, she didn't notice the emotional changes in her older brother and sister-in-law. Gu Ye likes Bao Ni's personality—simple, happy, and always ready to take on any challenge. He is that "tough guy."
"Gu Ye, do you think my father thinks my older brother is irresponsible and immature, so he wants to separate the family and let him go out and gain some experience?"
Gu Ye didn't want Bao Ni to see the dark side of his older brother's mind, so he just lived happily in the sunlight, which was fine. He would cover up the rest, and Bao Ni could just be a little sun with super high combat power.
"Gu Ye, you said..."
"Waaah..."
Since you can't sleep, do something meaningful. Why think so much? Gu Ye thinks that Bao Ni just has too much energy. Like Liu Jiu and San Qi, if she uses up her energy, she won't think so much.
Gu Ye silenced his wife with a kiss and began to undress her. Bao Ni's arousal was aroused, and she had no time to think about why her father wanted to separate the family. She was completely absorbed in the moment.
While busy with his work, Gu Ye also had to keep an eye on things, worried that Liu Jiu and San Qi might suddenly wake up and he wouldn't be able to fully concentrate. Next year, when the weather is warmer, he'll have to move the two children to another room to sleep; they're getting in the way.
Because she and Gu Ye had been up for quite a while that night, Bao Ni hadn't fully recovered her energy when she woke up the next day.
Liu Jiu went to daycare with her friends, carrying her little crossbody bag. San Qi was wandering around inside. Gu Ye had already left for work. Bao Ni didn't want to go to her parents' house today; she needed to rest a bit, tidy up the house, and do the laundry first.
The next day, the logistics department leader asked Bonnie to come over to discuss some matters, including planting on the deserted island. Bonnie took notes at the time, and it was already afternoon when they finished talking.
It was the third day when Bonnie re-entered her parents' home.
In the courtyard, Bonnie's father, grandfather, third uncle, and younger uncle were all there, while her eldest brother stood resentfully at their doorway.
"Father, Grandpa, what are you busy with? Why are you building a wall?"
Looking at the half-built wall in the yard, Bonnie thought that the family had really separated, and separated so thoroughly.
"Yes, we're building a wall. The family has split up. From now on, your eldest brother, second brother, and Lin Bo will all have to live their own lives. We'll live with your grandparents."
"Why all of a sudden? Why?"
Bonnie remembered Gu Ye's words: only her father knew the truth.
"Why? Why? Why don't you know? What are you pretending to be innocent for? Would you be able to separate from the family if it weren't for this?"
Bonnie's face immediately darkened when she saw her older brother roaring at her like a mad dog.
"What does your family split have to do with me? Lin Yu, explain yourself clearly. If you don't explain yourself clearly today, I'm not done with you."
Bonnie doesn't tolerate her older brother's temper; if you're angry, don't take it out on her, she's being unreasonable.
"Stop talking, let's just split it up then. It's our fault for not being able to afford government-subsidized grain rations!"
Sister-in-law Lin's seemingly comforting words were actually stirring up trouble.
Sister-in-law Lin didn't want to separate the family. After the separation, she would have to take care of the children herself, cook, clean, and do laundry after work. Her mother-in-law used to do all these things. She and Lin Yu would keep the money they earned. They wouldn't have to take care of their food and drink either. Life would be difficult after the separation.
"How can it not be your fault? We're brothers, you helped Lin Tao, Lin Bo, and even Lin Hui get into the army, but you didn't think about your older brother, me? I'm out there every day, braving the wind and rain, risking my life fishing at sea."
Hearing Lin Yu's words, Uncle Lin rolled up his sleeves in anger, while Uncle Lin wanted to say something about Lin Hui's matter, but didn't know what to say.
"Don't move, let him talk. He's suffered so much at home, he has no choice but to speak out."
Bonnie's father pulled back Uncle Lin, who was about to rush forward, and looked at his eldest son with a gloomy expression.
“They all received government-subsidized grain, and I’m the only one left earning work points. I’m useless. Yesterday, all we did was take some millet back to Xiaolan’s parents’ home, and Dad used that as an excuse to say we should separate the family. Isn’t that just looking down on us?”
"You took the millet I gave to Grandpa and Grandma to nourish them back to your father-in-law's house?"
Bonnie didn't want to listen to her older brother's nonsense. She didn't care that her older brother had poor mental fortitude and liked to compare himself to others; she could think whatever he wanted.
“I only took two or three pounds. Your sister-in-law’s mother sent word that she’s sick, so we’re going back to see what’s wrong. Don’t you often go back to your parents’ home too?”
Bonnie placed Sanqi in her third uncle's arms. "Third Uncle, could you please take Sanqi to Grandma's room? She'll catch a cold in a bit."
Uncle Lin didn't think much of it and carried Sanqi into the house.
When Bonnie saw her third uncle enter the house, she used her hands to push herself up and jumped over half a low wall, then rushed towards her brother Lin Yu.
