When Liu Jiu and Xuan Yi returned, Gu Ye was cooking in the kitchen, and there was only one dish left.

"Mom, is Dad back?"

Liu Jiu looked at San Qi, who was sitting leisurely on the sofa, and knew that her father had returned.

"You're back. You two hurry up and wash your hands, get ready to eat. Your dad only needs one last dish."

Bonnie was also happy that Gu Ye had returned safely and received a promotion, so she could consider hiring a cook for him in the future.

"knew!"

The two children put down their schoolbags to wash their hands; they were hungry.

"Dinner's ready!"

Gu Ye carried out the last of the stir-fried pork with chili peppers, and Bao Ni brought out the steamed rice as well.

"Dad, it's been so long since I've had your cooking, I've almost forgotten what it tastes like."

As Liu Jiu spoke, the smile on his face never faded.

"Second Aunt, I heard that the Friendship Store sells rice cookers now. They can cook rice directly, which is very convenient."

I heard from a classmate that his family bought one and it works very well.

"Yeah, I know, but there aren't any with a large capacity. One pot of rice isn't enough for our family for one meal. I'll buy one when they make a larger capacity one."

Bonnie also went to see it; it was the very first rice cooker, similar to the triangular rice cooker of later times, with the pot and lid separate.

But her family all have huge appetites, and these days, none of the rice cookers have a large capacity; one pot of rice isn't enough for them. Bonnie didn't want to go through the trouble again; she'd wait until she found a larger capacity one. She was used to steaming rice anyway.

"Oh, I think we should forget about it. We need quite a bit of rice for one meal."

Gu Xuanyi hadn't expected this problem. It seemed his second aunt would have to work hard for a while longer.

"Gu Ye, has the house been decided yet? When can we go see it?"

Bonnie suddenly remembered this question; she was quite curious about it.

"House? What house? Are we moving?"

Xuan Yi and Liu Jiu were unaware that Gu Ye had been promoted; Bao Ni had forgotten to mention it.

"Dad, you got a promotion?"

Liu Jiu realized that her mother was thinking about finding someone to cook, because she was afraid that there would be no one to cook after Sanqi started junior high school.

"Yeah, I got promoted, so we're moving."

"The deputy division commander?"

Liu Jiu thought that her father had only been promoted to deputy division commander, and age was a hurdle.

"Dad's been promoted to a full colonel! Isn't that awesome?!"

Sanqi looked proud, as if he had been promoted to a full colonel.

"Dad, are you alright?"

Liu Jiu immediately understood what was going on; this person had made a contribution in the south.

"No, I just got grazed by a stray bullet, but it's all healed now."

Looking at his worried daughter, Gu Ye felt incredibly happy.

"Honey, we have three houses to choose from. Listen to what you think, and we'll decide which one we want. Once we've chosen, we'll be living here for about ten or eight years."

The two houses are centrally located, not far from the commander's house, but they are rather small. Upstairs there are three rooms and a bathroom, and downstairs there is one room.

The other location is a bit out of the way, in the northeast corner of the residential compound, but it's larger, with four rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs.

This information was given to Gu Ye by the logistics department, telling him to choose for himself and make a decision as soon as possible.

"Why choose the one in the more remote location, so close to the commander? I'm not used to dealing with the leaders' families."

Bonnie is a straightforward person. Even after being married to Gu Ye for so many years, she hasn't made many friends in the family compound.

"Yes, my mom likes quiet. She doesn't want a crowd of people in the center who gossip all the time. It's too annoying."

Sanqi knew that her mother preferred to be alone and didn't like being the center of attention.

Judging from the attitudes of the group, Gu Ye realized they all wanted the secluded house, and he guessed it.

"There's another issue. That secluded house used to be where a corps commander lived. Later, he committed a crime and was court-martialed. Do you mind?"

"It's not like we're going to a military court, so what's there to worry about?"

Sanqi was quick to speak and was the first to express his opinion.

"That doesn't matter. What's the house like? Is it too dilapidated?"

Large houses with no one vying for them, are they built in a rather messy way?

"No, the previous owner repaired the house, and it's quite nice. Although the luxurious furniture was confiscated, the other facilities are still good."

Gu Ye went to see it before he came back, and it was really nice. The bathroom and kitchen were tiled, the window frames were almost new, and the walls inside were very clean, making the room look brighter.

Bonnie felt the house was fine and wanted it; as for everything else, she didn't care. Making mistakes was a personal matter, what did it have to do with the house?

"Yes, I've checked. The bathroom and kitchen are tiled, and the whole place is very clean. We can just apply for some furniture from the military later."

Gu Ye felt that as long as something was comfortable to use, there was no need to make it so luxurious.

“You’ve seen it, that’s fine. We’ll take the bigger one. Do you have time off? I’ll take a day off, and we can pack it up and move in when we’re off.”

Bonnie still prefers houses with yards and doesn't really like apartment buildings.

"We'll be busy all day tomorrow. The day after tomorrow, you can take a day off and we'll go check things out and get ready."

With everything settled, dinner finished, and the kitchen cleaned up, Gu Ye got ready for bed; he was exhausted.

The children thought their father (uncle) was really tired, but only Bonnie knew what her brother was thinking.

Bonnie took a day off and went to look at houses with Gu Ye.

"Honey, this is it. Wait a minute, I'll unlock it."

Bonnie looked at the two-story building in front of her. The yard seemed to have been expanded, larger than those nearby. Moreover, several side rooms had been added along the yard wall.
