Chapter 460 Domestic Workers Arrive

After Liu Jiu and Xuan Yi entered high school, their studies became more intense. In addition to their regular schoolwork, they also had regular English lessons on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and weekends.

Bonnie brought back a lot of high-quality seafood this time. Professor Gao gave her some, and Teacher Zhai also gave her quite a bit. Mainly because she lives alone, sometimes she's too lazy to cook, so she doesn't eat much and it's not much trouble for her.

Bonnie is now eagerly awaiting the arrival of a domestic helper; if that's not possible, she'll find one herself. She'll be in fifth grade after the start of the new school year, and her studies will be much more demanding, most notably with more homework.

Bonnie now rushes to buy groceries as soon as she gets off work, preparing everything so that Gu Ye can cook it or Sanqi can season it, but the taste is still not quite right.

"Honey, don't worry, the housekeeping staff has arrived. The military has approved several families this time. Not only our family, but also several army commanders' families are short of staff, so it's been a bit slow."

As soon as Gu Ye got off work, he quickly told Bao Ni the good news.

"Really, when will they arrive? What will their identities be? Where are they from? Also, will they be assigned by the military or will it be a mutual selection process?"

Bonnie perked up immediately; she was so worried.

"Most of the people selected by the military are from the vicinity of Beijing, and most are families of martyrs and soldiers, or relatives of active-duty soldiers. It's a two-way selection process. We'll see who you think is suitable when the time comes."

Gu Ye hoped that Bao Ni would feel comfortable and not rush things. Some people are easy to get along with, while others are just awkward to be around.

"That's fine. We mainly look for someone with good cooking skills; everything else is secondary. There's not much to clean in our house; the kids can clean their own rooms, and we have a washing machine for their clothes."

Bonnie thought to herself that she must go and see for herself tomorrow; this person was very important.

The next morning, Bonnie took the morning off and went to the military logistics department to enthusiastically select domestic workers.

This group of people arrived yesterday morning, and the logistics department organized them to go to the hospital for medical checkups. Bonnie's family is benefiting from the connections of the various leaders; all the requirements are very strict.

When Bonnie arrived, several family members were already there, but she didn't know any of them.

A short while later, the logistics department staff arrived with nine domestic workers. They were of varying ages, the youngest looking to be eighteen or nineteen, and the oldest over forty.

"Comrades, after our unit's personnel review process, there are nine qualified personnel. You two need to communicate with each other and make sure both sides are satisfied."

After the logistics staff finished speaking, Bonnie and the others began to learn about the situation.

Her family is mainly looking for a chef, and they don't want someone too young, because they're worried about their skills.

Bonnie looked around and settled on the older woman. She wrote down a note introducing herself as a former chef. The older woman had many requirements: she wasn't responsible for hygiene, but only for all kitchen tasks.

Many families need a nanny, so they skip her.

"Big sister, what's your name?"

"Xiang Fangcao, I'll only do kitchen work. Even if you cook four or five meals a day, that's fine. I'll take care of everything in the kitchen. Everything else is not my responsibility. I'm going to be a chef, not a nanny."

Xiang Fangcao explained beforehand that she had learned to cook from a master chef since she was a child and had always been proud of her profession. She was willing to work as a private chef, but she could not accept being a nanny.

Due to her occupational habits, she had arranged for her son to take over her job early so she could stay home and take care of her grandson. Unexpectedly, her eldest son suddenly passed away, and her ailing husband couldn't hold on any longer and also passed away.

The eldest daughter-in-law is only twenty-five years old, but she has three children: a pair of five-year-old twins and a child under two years old. She and her eldest son grew up together, got married when they reached marriageable age, and have a very good relationship.

She said she didn't want to remarry and wanted to raise her three children. Her youngest son had only been married for two years and his wife was pregnant, while her youngest daughter had just started working. No one expected the accident to happen so suddenly.

Her youngest son had his own family and could offer limited help to his sister-in-law, nephews, and nieces. She couldn't let her eldest daughter-in-law shoulder the burden alone. So she appealed to the organization, which arranged for her to work.

If it weren't for the fact that her hands are too weak to cook too many dishes, she would have liked to open her own small restaurant.

Now, the younger daughter lives with her eldest daughter-in-law so they can look after each other, and she earns a living on her own. They'll see what happens if her eldest daughter-in-law has other plans later; for now, she has to help raise the children.

"Sister Xiang, let me introduce myself. There are six people living in my family. The youngest child is in fifth grade. We mainly lack someone who can cook well. I can't cook, and the rest of my family doesn't have time. If you think it's okay, let's sign an agreement."

Bonnie wasn't sure whether she needed to sign a contract to hire someone at this point, or if she could just take them home directly.

"Okay, I'll come to your house."

Sister Xiang was asked twice earlier, both times about having someone to take care of at home, or needing cleaning or laundry done. This family, however, only needed a cook, and the woman of the house seemed quite kind.

"Comrade Lin, have you made your choice?"

"Yes, this lady has agreed to come to my house. What procedures do we need to complete?"

Both Bonnie and Sister Xiang expressed their satisfaction, and the staff completed the formalities for them.

Bonnie's family needs to pay their own housekeeper's salary, but the salary is uniform, forty yuan a month, which Bonnie agreed to.

Sister Xiang knew beforehand that the military staff had discussed their salaries when they arrived. It was a bit lower than what she received at the state-run restaurant, but the work was much easier.

Bonnie led Sister Xiang back to her home. Once inside the courtyard, she introduced the house, saying, "Sister Xiang, we have many children, and all the rooms are full. The side rooms in the courtyard are ready; would you like them?"

Bonnie opened the door to the side room. It had been tidied up, the walls had been painted, and it was very bright. The room, about ten square meters, had a bed, wardrobe, table, and all the necessary household items. The windows had new glass, and the light came in very well.
