Chapter 10 Wishful Thinking

Ning Tang has a clear understanding of her own position; she and Chen Lie are meant to live together.

She used Chen Lie to avoid farm work, and Chen Lie used her to look after their three children. To put it bluntly, it was a mutually beneficial situation, and she was just a live-in nanny.

But she can look after the children. She guarantees that under her care, the three children's lives will be safe.

But it is pure wishful thinking to ask her to be as devoted to the Su twins as Ning Xue in the original novel and take care of their food and clothing like an old nanny.

She couldn't even take care of herself, so how could she take care of three children? That was just wishful thinking.

The eldest child looked at the second and third children, and the three children stared at Ning Tang who was lying in the rocking chair.

Ning Tang closed her eyes, ignoring the gazes of the three children. She lay in the rocking chair with her mind focused, rocking back and forth. The only sound in the living room was the creaking of the rocking chair.

To be honest, Da Wa didn't quite believe that Ning Tang could really abandon them.

The three children sat at the table and waited for a long time, until they heard Ning Tang snoring softly, and they were dumbfounded.

What should I do? What my stepmother said seems to be true?!

Erniu nudged Da Wa with her elbow and said, "Brother, that woman seems serious. What should we do? Should we really fight her?"

The third child blinked his big eyes like black grapes, looked at the eldest child adorably, and said in a baby voice, "Brother, I'm hungry~"

The eldest child is the oldest and is the backbone of the three children. The second and third children all obey his orders.

The eldest child hesitated for a moment with a tense face, and when he saw that Ning Tang had no intention of paying any attention to them, he waved his hand and said, "Let's go and get our own food."

The eldest walked in front, and the second and third daughters followed closely behind him.

The three children entered the kitchen. The eldest child took out a small stool from behind the door and placed it in front of the stove. He quickly climbed onto the stool.

Erniu took out a bowl from the chest of drawers and handed it to Da Wa. Da Wa took the bowl with one hand, opened the lid of the pot with the other hand, placed the lid casually on the stove, and then took a big iron spoon to fill a bowl with noodle soup.

The third child squatted obediently beside them and watched his older brothers and sisters work.

With the joint efforts of Da Wa and Er Niu, three bowls of noodle soup were ready in a short while.

Ning Tang opened one eye and secretly looked at the movements in the kitchen. Seeing that the two children had served the noodle soup in an orderly manner, he breathed a sigh of relief.

She had just woken up, so how could she fall asleep in the rocking chair so quickly? She was just pretending to fool the three children.

The eldest child came out of the kitchen, holding a bowl in each of his two little hands. The second girl followed behind him, holding a bowl in each of her hands. The third child, the little follower, was still following the two older children, taking every step they took.

Seeing them come out, Ning Tang quickly closed his open eye and continued to snore: Zzzzz.

Big Baby glanced at Ning Tang and saw that she was still sleeping. His little face wrinkled with anger. He put two bowls heavily on the table with a "bang" sound, trying to scare Ning Tang.

However, Ning Tang didn't react at all.

The three children looked at each other. The eldest and the second girl saw the same cunning in each other's eyes. They picked up their chopsticks and held their bowls, deliberately eating the noodle soup in big mouthfuls, making a series of "slurping" sounds.

Unfortunately, Ning Tang turned a deaf ear to them and even turned over with his back to the three children, which almost made Da Wa and Er Niu die of anger.

The eldest and second daughter finished the noodle soup in a few mouthfuls, and together they fed the third child.

The third child is still young, only three years old this year. He can't even use a spoon properly, let alone chopsticks. The eldest child and the second girl have to take turns using chopsticks to pick up vermicelli and feed him.

When Sanwa was full, Erniu wiped his mouth with the bib hanging on his chest, then put the bowl down and asked Dawa, "Brother, what about the bowl?"

Big Boy puffed up his cheeks and said angrily, "How would I know? I don't know how to wash. When Uncle Zhao brought us food, he always took the bowls home to wash."

Ning Tang's ears moved slightly. This Uncle Zhao was probably referring to the guard Shen Lie who came to deliver the meal.

Although Da Wa was talking to Er Niu, his face was facing Ning Tang, and it was obvious that he was talking to Ning Tang.

However, Ning Tang remained indifferent.

After a stalemate, Da Wa was at a loss. Ning Tang made it clear that she would not help them, and her meaning was very clear.

But the three children, Da Wa, Er Niu and San Wa, didn't know how to wash dishes. Da Wa gritted his teeth and dragged over a wooden basin filled with water and put all the dirty dishes in the basin.

Just as Da Wa finished these things, he saw Ning Tang stand up and stretch, "Oh, it feels so good to take a nap."

Da Wa opened his eyes wide and stared at Ning Tang in disbelief.

Ning Tang looked back at him and blinked, "Why are you looking at me?"

Big Brother complained in his heart, I wonder how you can be so shameless.

When we ask you to work, you pretend to be asleep, and you get up as soon as we finish the work.

Big Boy snorted through his nose and said in a muffled voice, "Nothing!"

Ning Tang turned his face away and smiled secretly, hehe, I can’t deal with you three.

After all this trouble, it was already two o'clock in the afternoon.

Ning Tang glanced outside the house. The sun was scorching, and the dazzling sunlight shone on the grass and trees, as if it was going to burn them to a crisp. The cicada monkeys were making noisy calls in the trees, which made people feel irritated from the bottom of their hearts.

The weather at Hailang Island in the far south and Shangang Village in the far north are completely different.

The weather in Shangang Village in June is not too hot, but the sunshine in Hailang Island is hot enough to burn off a layer of skin.

Ning Tang tried to stand in the yard for a while, but was forced back into the house by the scorching sun and immediately gave up the idea of going out for a walk.

Although Da Wa looked like he was concentrating on playing with his toy car, he was actually watching Ning Tang's movements out of the corner of his eye.

Seeing Ning Tang standing in the yard for a while and then running back, Da Wa curled his lips. What was this stepmother doing?

Ning Tang went back to the house and killed some time, until it was past five in the afternoon, when the sun was not particularly hot, before he went out.

When she got off the boat, she was very interested in the sea of Hailang Island. Unfortunately, it was late and everyone was in a hurry to go home, so she didn't have time to take a good look at the scenery. Now that she has time, she must take a good stroll and feel what it means to have coconut breeze and sea charm.

After all, Hailang Island was a famous tourist attraction in her previous life. Ning Tang had long wanted to take advantage of the holidays to travel there, but unfortunately she was very busy at work and was exploited by her boss every day. She had to work 996 every day and never found the time.

This time, she has traveled to this era. The scenery of Hailang Island is even better than that of later generations. She must take a good look around to make the trip worthwhile.

Ning Tang went out, recalling the road Chen Lie had taken her on, and headed towards the beach with high spirits.

After taking just two steps, she felt something was wrong. She turned around and saw three little tails following her.

The eldest boy held his toy wooden car in one hand, and the second girl followed behind him with the third boy. When the third boy saw Ning Tang had discovered them, he grinned, revealing a row of white baby teeth.

Ning Tang raised an eyebrow, "Why are you following me?"

Da Wa's thick black eyebrows were furrowed into an inverted eight shape, and he stared at Ning Tang closely. "I won't follow you because I'm afraid you'll get into trouble."

"I'm in trouble?" Ning Tang laughed, looking at the three little kids. "How old are you three? Oh, by the way, Chen Lie told me that you, Big One, are seven, Erniu is five, and Sanwa is three. Even if you add up the three of you, you're only fifteen, not even adults yet. I'm twenty-four this year, an adult, right? You're still worried about me getting into trouble. I'm lucky I don't worry about you getting into trouble."

Erniu imitated Da Wa and frowned, saying, "Anyway, Dad said that your ginseng and sweet potatoes are not ripe, so let us watch you."

Ginseng sweet potato is not ripe? What the hell?

Ning Tang was stunned for a moment before realizing that Erniu meant that she was unfamiliar with the place.

Since the three children followed Shen Lie's instructions, then fine, just follow him.

Ning Tang figured it out, so he let Da Wa and the other three follow him and continued to head towards the beach.

However, she was stopped after taking only two steps.

The one who called her was none other than Ning Xue.

The Su family's yard was the same as the Shen family's. Because Su Junyan hadn't been back for a while, the yard was overgrown with weeds. Ning Xue was bending over in the yard to weed.

Ning Xue was thinking about removing all the weeds in the yard and then clearing two plots of land to grow some onions, ginger, garlic or some green vegetables, which would add flavor to the dishes cooked at home and save money on vegetables.

So Ning Xue worked all afternoon under the scorching sun on Hailang Island.
