About ten minutes later, suddenly, a crisp, loud clinking of keys broke the silence of the night without warning.

The clanging and clattering sounds were unusually abrupt and jarring in this otherwise silent and almost vacuum-like environment, instantly drawing Xia Wan and Xia Shuyu's full attention.

Their bodies tensed instantly, their muscles taut like a drawn bowstring, their eyes revealing vigilance and tension, as if they were about to face a life-or-death battle.

Guo Guanghua appeared at the gate of the courtyard, dangling his key in his hand with a casual and nonchalant expression. He opened the door casually, his steps hurried, completely unaware of the danger lurking in the shadows, like a lamb to the slaughter, utterly defenseless.

Without hesitation, he pushed open the courtyard gate and strode towards the main house. As he entered, the house was quickly illuminated by a dim, yellow light.

The faint light shone through the window paper, as if draping the entire courtyard in a mysterious veil. The courtyard, which was already full of mystery, became even more unpredictable, as if it were hiding countless unknown secrets.

Xia Wan frowned, her brows furrowing tightly. She lowered her voice and muttered to herself, "How could he be so careless? Walking in like that, isn't he worried about being secretly watched?"

Her words were full of doubt and confusion. In her view, Guo Guanghua's behavior was too reckless and completely inconsistent with the behavior of a cautious person.

Before she could finish speaking, Xia Shuyu quickly reached out and gently but urgently touched her arm, while signaling with her eyes to keep quiet.

His eyes conveyed seriousness and warning, as if to say, "Any sound at this moment could destroy everything."

Xia Wan immediately understood her aunt's meaning and quickly shut her mouth.

Not long after, a rhythmic knocking sound suddenly rang out again in the previously quiet courtyard.

"Thump thump thump..." This sudden sound seemed unusually abrupt in the quiet night, like a heavy hammer slamming into the drumhead of the silent night, breaking the tranquility of the night.

Upon hearing the knocking, Xia Wan instantly perked up, straightened her back as straight as a javelin, and stared intently at the entrance to the courtyard with her large eyes wide open like copper bells.
