Chapter 481 Abandonment, Betrayal

What are you looking at?

Seeing Ye Yun stop in place, Gu Yingying looked in the direction of the stinking ditch, puzzled.

She only saw an unfamiliar man loitering by the stinking ditch, and without thinking much of it, she pulled Ye Yun along, her voice now carrying a hint of coquettishness:

"Let's go. You said you'd give me a kitten if I made you happy."

Her voice was clear and melodious, especially penetrating in the quiet winter day, causing the man next to the stinking ditch to hear the noise and look in their direction.

From a distance of about ten meters, shrouded in winter fog, Ye Yun couldn't see the man's expression.

But the man walked towards them step by step, his feet sinking into the snow mixed with mud.

Wearing a cotton hat that covered his ears, a large black scarf, and black-rimmed glasses, his exposed cheeks were red from the cold, and his hands were tucked inside his pockets, making one truly feel the chill in his heart.

His breath fogged up his glasses, then quickly disappeared.

When Gu Yingying saw the man walking straight toward her and Ye Yun, she tensed up in fright and went into a state of alert and defensiveness.

What are you doing!

She pulled Ye Yun back two steps, exposing the two of them to the crowd's view.

The man was startled by her attitude and quickly pulled his hand out of his sleeve, waving it frantically:

"Miss, miss, don't misunderstand, I just came to ask you something."

Gu Yingying didn't easily believe him. Her upbringing had taught her to be vigilant when necessary. Pointing at the man, she shouted sharply, "You just stand there and talk. Don't come any closer to us!"

"Okay, okay..."

The man seemed afraid of frightening Gu Yingying, and stood still, not daring to take another step forward.

Seeing that he was cooperating, Gu Yingying softened her tone: "Go ahead, what do you want to ask us?"

The man smiled sheepishly.

He then looked at Ye Yun, his tone somewhat reserved: "I recognize you. You're the factory manager of the nearby Lantian Garment Factory, right?"

Ye Yun said calmly, "Mm."

Having witnessed the other party abandon the kitten last night and throw it into a stinking ditch, she felt an indescribable disgust for this person.

Unfortunately, in this world, animals are despised, and she cannot judge others with her own thoughts.

Seeing that the man was actually talking to Ye Yun, Gu Yingying looked at Ye Yun with a suspicious gaze, "Do you know this person?"

Ye Yun shook her head.

The man quickly shook his head, forced a smile, and said, "No, no, how could I possibly have the chance to meet Director Ye? I just wanted to ask Director Ye if you found anything near this stinking ditch last night, or if anyone from your factory found anything."

Ye Yun scoffed, her voice slightly cold: "Did you lose something?"

The man's eyes looked slightly dim.

He paused for a couple of seconds before saying somewhat awkwardly, "To be honest, I left a bag of stuff here last night."

"What is that?"

The man was speechless, “This…”

"Since it's something that's been thrown away, why pick it up again?" Ye Yun interrupted him when she saw his hesitation, and scoffed with a hint of sarcasm. "Could it be that the bag you use to carry things is so precious that once the things are lost, they're gone, and you're going to pick up a tattered rag bag instead?"

The man was speechless upon hearing this.

He quickly realized what was going on, and his expression became urgent: "So, Director Ye, you took that litter of kittens?"

Ye Yun's face was cold and stern, and she did not answer.

Gu Yingying sensed something amiss, opened her mouth in surprise, looked at Ye Yun, then at the man, and suddenly understood what was going on. Her face instantly flushed with anger.

"So you're the one who threw the kitten into the stinking ditch! What a vicious heart you have!"

She rolled up her sleeves and charged at the man like a firecracker.

Ye Yun grabbed her by the collar.

Gu Yingying was grabbed, waving her small fists and unleashing a helpless rage towards the man:

"Heartless! Irresponsible! Dog of a man!"

These words struck a nerve with the man, causing his face to turn slightly pale and his expression to become somewhat helpless.

Gu Yingying was still cursing, furious: "You threw them away, but you threw them into the stinking ditch! In the dead of winter, they're so small, are you not leaving them any chance to survive?!"

"I curse you to be reborn as a cat or dog in your next life, and to be thrown into a stinking ditch by your mother the moment you're born!"

Ye Yun, "..."

After Gu Yingying finished cursing, she grabbed Gu Yingying and pulled her behind her back to quiet her down.

Gu Yingying was hardly the type to listen and be sensible. Just as she was about to start cursing, Ye Yun casually tossed out, "Do you still want the kitten?"

In an instant, Gu Yingying shut her mouth.

She was feeling incredibly stifled. She glared fiercely at the man, then turned away, gritting her teeth, and muttered curses under her breath.

The man's face, already red from the cold, looked even more like a boiled shrimp from her scolding.

With an embarrassed expression and uneasy eyes, he looked at Ye Yun, rubbing his hands back and forth, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.

Ye Yun retorted sarcastically, "Could it be that you really want the cloth bag back?"

"No, no, no." The man immediately shook his head and gave a dry laugh. "Now that Director Ye has taken the kitten back, I'm relieved."

Ye Yun couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

"What are you pretending for?" She maintained her smile, but her eyes were exceptionally sharp and piercing. "I was taking a walk behind you yesterday when you abandoned the kittens. I saw it all clearly. After you threw them away, you acted like you were throwing away a hot potato, leaving as quickly as possible. You didn't seem to have a shred of pity then. Now you've suddenly had a change of heart?"
