Chapter 189 The Beauty of Retirement

Prince Yan lay back on the bed and secretly adjusted his breathing. He was seriously injured and needed to rest for at least three days before he could get out of bed and walk. There may still be assassins searching outside, so for now, we can only stay in Liujia Village temporarily.

Prince Yan's mind was groggy as he pondered over how to contact his subordinates. His eyelids drooped and he soon fell asleep again.

Thanks to his good health, Prince Yan was able to get out of bed after resting for two days. That afternoon, King Yan stood up with the help of the wall and walked out of the narrow wooden house step by step. He had to find a way to contact his subordinates.

The farmer's house is not big, with only two mud houses and a small courtyard.

The sun was shining brightly. Under a big green tree, Shen Wei and the white-haired old woman were sitting in the yard, picking beans together.

"Second brother, go catch some fish and I'll make fish soup for your husband in the evening." The old woman said with a smile.

Shen Wei's eyebrows curved: "Thank you, Granny Liu."

Granny Liu smiled and said, "You're welcome. When he recovers, you can go to the south. No one will be able to find you. Back then, my old man and I also ran away secretly. Now we have three sons."

Shen Wei had already caught a glimpse of Prince Yan at the door of the wooden house. She pretended not to see it and continued chatting with Granny Liu, with helplessness and bitterness hidden in her words: "My husband is always busy and tired, and he can't stop for a moment. I don't like wealth and glory, nor do I like red tape. I just want to grow old with my husband and spend the rest of my life together like an ordinary couple... Alas, I can only think about it."

King Yan was stunned when he heard this.

Weiwei, it turns out that she doesn’t like the wealth of the palace?

Looking at Shen Wei's slightly sour smile, King Yan's heart beat inexplicably. His heart, which had been eager to return to Beijing, suddenly calmed down. Ever since the crown prince became seriously ill, Prince Yan has been concentrating all his attention on seizing power, scheming with his advisers, and planning great undertakings with his subordinates.

The peaceful and carefree days are not meant for him.

After hearing Shen Wei's words today, King Yan inexplicably felt a sense of anticipation. If great things are accomplished in the future, he and Shen Wei will be old and can stay away from the court and live a peaceful life as ordinary people.

"You are a good girl, and your husband will definitely not let you down." Granny Liu said with a smile.

Shen Wei nodded: "Yes, my husband is the best man in the world."

King Yan silently raised the corner of his mouth.

Prince Yan said nothing, leaned against the door, and quietly looked at Shen Wei in the yard. It was an ordinary afternoon. The dilapidated courtyard, the plainly dressed Shen Wei, and the green vines climbing on the walls gave people a feeling of peace and tranquility.

"Mom, my brother and I caught two big fish!" The yard door opened and two tall hunters walked in happily.

Holding two big fish in his hands.

When Liu Erniu saw the King of Yan standing at the door, his jaw dropped to the ground in shock: "Hey, brother, why are you up? Go back to your room and lie down!"

Liu Erniu felt very guilty. It was all his fault that he didn't see clearly that night and mistook his brother for a deer and almost shot him to death. Liu Erniu walked over and wanted to support the King of Yan: "Brother, you are really tall and strong. Have you ever been a soldier like me?"

Two years ago, when the Vietnamese army invaded, the three brothers of the Liu family all wanted to join the army. Killing the enemy was dangerous, and all three brothers wanted to go, but after arguing for a while no one could find one. Finally, the youngest brother, Liu Xiaoniu, packed his bags overnight and joined the army, leaving the eldest and second brothers at home to take care of their parents.

The King of Yan said calmly, "I was a soldier."

Liu Erniu showed a simple smile, patted King Yan on the shoulder, and said cheerfully: "No wonder, brother, you are as strong as an ox."

He enthusiastically helped King Yan back to the house to rest.

After sending the two fish back home, Liu Daniu and Liu Erniu did not rest. They drank half a bucket of well water to quench their thirst, and then went into the mountains with bows and arrows and hunting tools to work.

As dusk approached, Prince Yan got out of bed and walked around. He was not the type of person who would rest and recuperate. He was made to lie in bed every day to recuperate, unable to move, and he felt uncomfortable all over.

King Yan walked out of the house. It was dusk and Shen Wei was staring at the water tank in a daze, holding a kitchen knife in her hand. Granny Liu is too old to lift a knife, so the job of killing the fish falls to Shen Wei.

Of course Shen Wei knew how to kill fish, she could even kill a wild boar, let alone a fish.

But she couldn't show that other side of herself. Shen Wei pretended to look at the water tank helplessly. Two fish were swimming around in it provocatively. Shen Wei reached out to grab them and got splashed with water in her face. She didn't give up and reached out to grab it again. The fish swung back and forth in Shen Wei's hand, and the fish's tail almost hit Shen Wei's face.

The scene was so adorable that King Yan couldn't help laughing out loud.

Shen Wei pretended to be angry: "I...I have never killed a fish. In the past, my brothers and sisters killed fish and chickens at home. You are still laughing at me, my husband."

Prince Yan came over. He quite liked hearing Shen Wei call him "husband". Prince Yan teased her: "Call me husband twice more."

Shen Wei said nothing.

King Yan took the kitchen knife from Shen Wei and reached into the water tank with his big hand. His palms were broad and powerful, and he held the seven-pound fish firmly in his hands. Put the fish on the chopping board and hit the fish head with the back of the kitchen knife. The fish will faint instantly.

He cut open the belly with skillful movements.

Shen Wei was stunned, staring at King Yan blankly, as if she was seeing a new side of King Yan for the first time: "This is too amazing..."

The King of Yan smiled and said complacently, "When I was in the army, I knew how to kill chickens and sheep."

If his elder brother, the Crown Prince, had not been in poor health, the Prince of Yan would never have stepped into the turbulent court. He would rather be a prince leading troops in battle.

The fish had been killed, and Shen Wei took the initiative to take over the job of cooking the fish, pushing King Yan away: "My husband, go and rest, I will cook the fish."

The farmer's kitchen is simple, unlike the kitchen in Prince Yan's mansion which is filled with various seasonings. Shen Wei planned to make a simple boiled fish and add some green vegetable leaves.
