A Guide to Raising Younglings During Natural Disasters

Natural disasters were incessant. Ning Xia had survived alone for six years and finally decided to return to her old home in Qianzhou to start anew. Unexpectedly, she rescued two skinny little ones...

Chapter 145: Shelter

Sangsang ate the fish in his mouth in small bites, and quietly looked at the two monkey brothers who were happily eating steamed buns at the table.

"Sangsang, no." Ningxia didn't even raise her head, but lowered her head to eat seriously.

"Oh." Sangsang smiled awkwardly and took back her little hand that had been quietly placed under the table. There was a piece of white fish meat in the center of her palm.

"Sister Xia Xia, what should we do with them?" Lin Yi asked as he looked at the three little ones playing happily by the fire barrel in the living room.

Ningxia rubbed his brows and said, "Pack them all up and throw them out later."

Of course Lin Yi knew that she was just speaking in anger.

"Xia Xia! Monkey Friend is injured!"

Ningxia raised her eyelids, "Where?"

Sangsang took the monkey friend by the hand and walked towards Ningxia. Ningxia then discovered that there was a scratch on the other party's thigh. She didn't know what animal caused it, but there was no bleeding. The scratch was hidden under the brown-gray hair, so it was not noticed at first glance.

Ningxia sighed softly, brought out the medicine box and sprinkled some medicine powder on it.

The little monkey didn't struggle, but just sat on the ground and looked up at the people fiddling with it.

Ningxia met the other person's ignorant and trusting eyes and said, "The second time." It was the second time to apply medicine to it. Fate is really a wonderful thing.

The other party obviously didn't understand, and when it realized that Ningxia was talking to it, it raised its hand and saluted without hesitation.

Ningxia laughed and couldn't help but raise her hand to gently tap its round head, "That's all you know!"

"Xia Xia, don't throw them out~"

"If you keep talking nonsense, you'll be thrown out too."

It was getting dark, and the two monkeys showed no intention of leaving. Ningxia was worried, but she couldn't really throw the monkeys away.

"Sister Xia, there's a noise in the yard!" Xiao Jie was a little nervous.

Ningxia nodded, "I heard it."

"Don't you want to go out and take a look?"

"I know without even looking that their family members are here to look for them." Whose angry voice could it be but that of the old monkey?

"I heard it too, it's a monkey beating people!"

The whole family went out to greet them in a lively manner. Sure enough, it was the old monkey who couldn't climb over the courtyard wall and was yelling and cursing outside the wall. One could tell from his tone that he was not saying anything nice.

Ningxia slowly handed the crossbow to Lin Yi and walked forward to open the gate.

The old monkey listened to the noise and followed the wall around to the gate. As soon as he entered the gate, he grinned at the few people.

Ningxia then discovered that the old monkey had a lot of blood on his body, and there were many cuts on his arms, waist and abdomen. The blood had flowed out and solidified into a tangled hair, which he had to comb here and there, looking extremely miserable.

Sangsang protected the two monkeys behind her, and Ningxia pulled her over. She really had to be hit by the monkey once before she knew how to be afraid.

As expected, the old monkey walked up and grabbed the two little monkeys and threw them to the ground. The three monkeys stood at the gate of the yard. The old monkey looked at everyone vigilantly for a long time, then lowered his head to smell the powder between the thighs of the little monkeys. After a long time, he roared at Ningxia.

Ningxia was confused and didn't know what was going on.

Before she could think about it, the old monkey turned around and disappeared in the wind and snow with a few jumps. The two monkeys returned to Ningxia's legs and looked for Sangsang to continue playing.

Is this... entrusting an orphan to someone else? Is he really treating this place like a shelter? Ningxia looked at the overjoyed Sangsang and went into the house with a dull expression.

The two monkeys were temporarily placed in the stairwell, and the ugly chicken coop in the yard was brought back into the house and temporarily became their home.

Sangsang also stuffed a lot of hay and unwanted cloth into the house. The three children put their best efforts into decorating the monkeys' new home. Xiaojie looked visibly more cheerful, and Ningxia saw this and just let them be.

Ningxia woke up from a nap that day and was almost scared to death by the monkey Xiaopeng standing in the corridor.

"What did you do?!" Ningxia took one of Monkey Xiaopeng's paws and half-dragged it towards the living room. Monkey Xiaopeng also obeyed and trotted on his little feet to catch up.

When they got to the living room where there was enough light, people could see the monkey Xiaopeng's appearance clearly. Its furry head was tightly tied with several small rubber bands that they found from somewhere. Ningxia looked at its scalp, which was torn red.

He was also wearing a nondescript sweater, which Ningxia recognized as a failed practice sweater from Lin Yi. All ten of his fingers were covered in rings made from carrot peels.

Ningxia sat on the sofa, gently pulled the monkey Xiaopeng to her side, and gently untied the rubber band on its head.

"Who did it?"

"Me! Does it look good, Xia Xia?"

Lin Yi noticed that Ningxia's expression was not right, and quickly said, "It kept pulling at my clothes, so I thought I'd put some clothes on it to keep it warmer. It can pull its own clothes..."

Ningxia pulled Sangsang over, reached out and grabbed the short, light curly hair on her scalp and pulled hard.

"Ah! Ouch! Xia Xia, what are you doing? It hurts!" Sangsang's eyes were filled with tears.

Ningxia let go of her as she exerted her strength, then peeled back Hou Xiaopeng's scalp to show her, and placed a strand of hair pulled from the rubber band in front of her, "Guess if it hurts."

Sangsang didn't bother to cover her scalp, and quickly hugged Monkey Xiaopeng's head, "Xiaopeng! Why didn't you say anything? I'm sorry! Let me blow on it for you."

Seeing Sangsang puffing out her cheeks and blowing on Monkey Xiaopeng's scalp, Ningxia breathed a sigh of relief knowing that she was not intentionally bullying the monkey.

"Sorry, Sister Xia, we saw that Monkey Xiaopeng didn't resist, so we thought he liked playing with Sangsang like this."

Ningxia waved her hand, "Where's its brother?"

Lin Yi pointed at the stairwell and said, "It didn't want Sangsang to tie its hair, so it hid inside."

At least there is a smart one.

The days passed by in the midst of chaos. Xiaojie's injury was no longer serious and his complexion became much rosier, but he still hadn't gained weight. The two little ones had become much rounder.

The two monkey brothers also integrated into the family very well. As the monkey Xiaopeng grew up, it became increasingly difficult to distinguish the two brothers. Lin Yi simply knitted two bibs for each of the monkeys to take turns wearing.

Monkey Xiaopeng is yellow and Monkey Xiaoyou is white, and there are several small fonts in the corner with their names written on them.

The two monkeys didn't object to the bibs at all; on the contrary, they loved them. Every time Ningxia saw the little monkey tiptoeing toward her wearing a bib, she felt like she'd given birth to a monkey.

The two monkeys were too obedient. They ate whatever was given to them and never picked and chose. They also never coveted the food on the table.

Over time, Ningxia softened his heart. Every time he caught something from the traps he set near the pine forest, he would give half to the two monkey brothers as a snack. The two brothers really grew bigger day by day as he watched.

The old monkey never came back. Ningxia sometimes thought maliciously that he might have died outside.

As it got colder outside, even if you wore thick clothes and stood in the yard for just two minutes, you would be chilled from head to toe. Ningxia didn't allow anyone to go out.

Even the vegetables buried in the yard were moved under the eaves, so they can be reached by opening the window, but opening the window is also very tiring.
