A Guide to Raising Younglings During Natural Disasters

Natural disasters were incessant. Ning Xia had survived alone for six years and finally decided to return to her old home in Qianzhou to start anew. Unexpectedly, she rescued two skinny little ones...

Chapter 17: Setting off again

The point where the cabin was located on the map was marked by the forest ranger named Chen Xiang. Ningxia carefully compared it with the national map and determined the direction of the blue bird. Knowing that the general direction was correct, Ningxia was completely relieved.

Ningxia had a particularly hard time walking the first part of the journey. Not only did the wound on her arm ache slightly, but she also had to carefully remove the traces left by their hurried journey.

There was an old man in the base who was hunting before. When he went out, he injured a brown bear and cut off half of its ear. Two months later, when he went out of the base again, he was ambushed by the brown bear. Yes, ambushed. He died not far from the base. His stomach was ripped open. It was extremely tragic.

After the disaster, all kinds of plants and animals developed at an incredible speed. Many animals even had their own thinking ability, which was extremely terrifying. Ningxia was really afraid that the bear would catch up with her.

Fortunately, Ningxia got a detailed map of the city he was currently in at the cabin, which made things much easier.

They tried their best to avoid the cities along the way and traveled through the woods. Ningxia didn't dare to take any risks. Although these towns had been abandoned, who could guarantee that no one lived there?

If she met a bad guy, the consequences would be unimaginable for her, a woman with two children, Maomao and the bulging bag on his back.

Although you can have enough food in this era as long as you work hard, the social order has now completely collapsed. At least Liefeng has lived a life no different from that of primitive humans, and the legal system has been thrown out of the window by the survivors. There are always people who want to get something for nothing, and Ningxia dare not take the risk.

After three days of driving on the highway, Ningxia finally slowed down. She finally had time to check on Sangsang's condition.

This child has been acting very strange these past few days. Not only is she clingy, she also avoids all kinds of creatures. Even an earthworm can scare her to tears.

Ningxia was a little worried, afraid that the damn brown bear had left her with irreparable psychological trauma. But on the other hand, Ningxia really didn't know what to do, so she could only patiently comfort the little girl, repeating the words "don't be afraid" over and over again.

The weather was fine, and Ningxia decided to rest early today, mainly because she found a piece of flat land.

Although this area in Ningxia is covered with weeds, it is not difficult to tell that it is a field cultivated before the disaster year. The area is not large, so the advantage is that it does not need to be specially taken care of.

They checked everywhere around and made sure there were no snakes, insects, rats or ants before unloading their luggage. It was already evening and the sun was still dazzlingly bright. The three of them had been traveling for three days in a row, so it would be good to rest early.

Ningxia knew it wouldn't rain, so they could choose a place more freely. Lin Yi built a fire and poured out the porridge to heat it up. Then he took Sangsang in his arms, blew on it to cool it down, and fed him mouthful by mouthful. After Sangsang had eaten most of the bowl, he waved his hand to indicate that he was full.

"Eat when you're hungry, don't save." Ningxia put down the bowl after seeing Lin Yi didn't eat much, and looked at him with a frown. There was really no need to pretend to be so hungry with Lin Yi's appetite. After eating half a bowl of porridge, he probably wouldn't even make a sound.

Lin Yi touched his head, poured out another half bowl and ate it before he was done.

Ningxia also drank a bowl of porridge while it was hot. She wanted to drink this porridge while she was on the road. She had to boil a whole bucket of porridge once she lit a fire. It was the thermos bucket she found in the cabin that made it much more convenient to carry it with her on the road.

Cooking once allows her to have three or four meals in a row without having to cook, which has greatly reduced Ningxia's pressure. Her arms are now only showing signs of scabs, and she still can't handle cooking every meal. She'd rather have simple meals, as she doesn't have the conditions to be picky now.

Ningxia is generous with its ingredients, and even mixes two handfuls of rice into the mixed grain rice. The same goes for fish fillets, and they put a lot of them in. The dish is thick and sticky, and Ningxia is full after eating one bowl.

After finishing his meal early, Lin Yi had already made the "bed". He found a lot of leaves and cut a lot of grass that grew together in large clumps and spread them underneath, and then spread several layers of leaves on top.

When Lin Yi finally finished, the "bed" was about 50 centimeters off the ground, although there was a high probability that it would collapse if pressed down.

Ningxia took out two large cotton-padded jackets and was about to spread them out on the "bed" when Lin Yi snatched them away. Lin Yi had been rushing to do the work these days, fearing that if she did too much, it would delay the healing of the injury on her arm.

The three of them lay side by side in the shade of the tree, feeling very comfortable in the breeze.

"Go to sleep if you're tired." Ningxia looked at the two listless people.

Lin Yi rubbed his eyes vigorously. "Sister Xia Xia, it's not dark yet. Why don't you take a nap first? I'll be watching over you. I'll call you if there's anything."

It has to be said that Ningxia was shamefully moved. These past few days she had been traveling during the day and keeping watch at night, sleeping no more than four hours a day. Now as soon as she lay down her eyes, her eyelids began to droop.

"Are you okay?" Lin Yi was indeed alert, otherwise Ning Xia would not have hesitated.

Lin Yi nodded firmly.

Ningxia looked at him for a long time, but couldn't persuade him anyway, so she turned around and lay down next to Sangsang. "Come and sit next to Sangsang," she said, hugging Sangsang and closing her eyes. She had to get some sleep, and when she got better, she would take over as Lin Yi's turn.

Ningxia woke up after only about three hours of sleep. She got up quickly and found Lin Yi standing tensely, looking at the forest not far away. She panicked and leaned over quietly, "What's wrong?" Her voice was very low.

Lin Yi felt her body temperature approaching him and trembled, his tense muscles relaxed a lot, "Look for yourself, Sister Xia Xia..." Lin Yi said and pointed to the forest opposite.

Ningxia then discovered that Sangsang was mumbling something to a monkey in front of an open space in the forest, even though the monkey ignored her. Not far from the man and the monkey, there was an old monkey with a kind face and a rather large stature, with muscles all over its body. No wonder Lin Yi was so nervous.
