Natural disasters were incessant. Ning Xia had survived alone for six years and finally decided to return to her old home in Qianzhou to start anew. Unexpectedly, she rescued two skinny little ones...
"What's wrong with Xiaodi..." Ningxia looked at the silent boy in Kaile's house.
She still remembered how Xiaodi was the first child to follow Kaile back in the Shuguang era. His uncle and aunt had abandoned him, and Kaile had picked him up. He was so cheerful all day long, but now...
Kaile sighed quietly and moved aside to let Ningxia into the house.
Xiaodi was very thin and sat curled up on the wooden sofa, with his exposed arms covered with scars.
Sitting next to him was an extraordinarily exquisite young girl, as beautiful as Qiao Zhenzhen, but with a different look.
Qiao Zhenzhen was more imposing, with a wheat-colored complexion and deeper features. The girl, on the other hand, had fair skin and extremely thin arms and legs, like a fragile doll.
"Is this Huahua?"
"Um, Huahua is calling someone! This is Sister Xia!"
The girl still had a cold expression on her face. She glanced at the two of them and then lowered her head to look at the book in her hand.
Ningxia held Kaile back and said, "Alright, don't force her! Are you used to living here with Lao Liao?"
Kaile nodded. "I'm used to it! Brother Liao went to squeeze in with District Chief Li. My house is also under construction. I'll be able to move in soon."
"You just arrived in District 1, right? Why are you in such a hurry to renovate your house? Do you have any money? You didn't take it from me."
Kaile smiled happily, "I have it, Lao Xia. Number One gave me a large sum of money, including rewards and subsidies for these two. It's enough to spend."
"Just tell me if it's not enough. Building materials aren't cheap these days."
"Don't worry!"
"I've already contacted Mo Guanshan for you. You can enroll anytime the military academy is finished. But what about Xiaodi? I think he needs someone to look after him."
Kaile rubbed his head nonchalantly, "Here are the flowers! Besides, it's still early for the military academy!"
"Okay, bring Xiaodi and Huahua to my house for dinner tonight. We'll be there."
Kaile nodded, "Yeah, I'll bring them over later."
Ningxia thought about it, and then walked up to Xiaodi, "Xiaodi, do you still remember me?"
The person in front of her didn't respond, so she tentatively reached out and placed her palm on Xiaodi's furry head.
The scorching temperature passed through Xiaodi's hair and reached his scalp. He then raised his dark eyes and looked at the gentle woman in front of him.
"Xiaodi, do you still remember me?"
Xiao Di took a while to come back to his senses, "Old Xia..."
Hearing her address, Ningxia smiled, took her hand away and held his thin fingers, "It's me, I live here too! We can play together again in the future."
"Old Xia..." Xiaodi repeated again.
"This kid really doesn't remember being beaten. I've told him so many times to call me sister!" Kaile said with a smile, but his eyes were secretly red.
Ningxia also laughed, her voice still soft, "Didn't you also not call me sister?"
Kaile smiled and quickly wiped away his tears. "Is Brother Shan here tonight? You two have to have a drink with me. But first thing's first, I don't have any wine!"
Ningxia rolled her eyes at him and said, "I'm ready to drink with you!"
She turned to look at Xiaodi again, "Xiaodi, would you like to come to Lao Xia's house for dinner tonight? I have two younger brothers and sisters there too."
Xiao Di seemed to have finally come back to his senses and put on a very forced smile, "Old Xia, don't talk to me in that childish tone. You look better when you hit me."
Ningxia was stunned for a moment, then her eyes turned red. She reached out and patted him lightly on the shoulder, then leaned over and hugged him. The boy's body stiffened and then began to tremble quietly.
"It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back."
Xiao Di paused in her resistance, and trembling, she let the other person hold her. It seemed... not so cold anymore...
Huahua looked at Ningxia, her eyes full of inquiry. This was the first time Xiaodi hadn't resisted the approach of someone other than her and Kaile. Kaile had just mentioned a couple, saying she was married. The coldness in Huahua's eyes faded a little, and no one knew what she was thinking.
"Old Xia, I'll come." The smile on Xiaodi's face became much more natural.
Ningxia patted his head and said, "I've prepared your favorite spareribs for you. Don't steal them this time. They're all yours, and no one is allowed to snatch them from you!"
Xiaodi was stunned, and then tears fell without warning.
Ningxia and Kaile panicked, and Huahua called out to them, "Let him cry! He hasn't cried in... a long time..."
The two of them paused, silently looking at the child with a distorted face and a wide-open mouth crying without making a sound.
It took a while for the room to calm down. Xiaodi fell asleep while crying.
Kaile closed the door behind him, then turned to Ningxia with tears in his eyes, "Old Xia, you don't know... When I went to the provincial capital to pick him up, I was covered in wounds! Many of them were from the day before...
The staff at the state government told me that he had been locked up in the basement by the beast who bought him for two years...two years, Old Xia..." Kaile burst into tears when he said this.
Ningxia patted his shoulder and said, "Why are you crying? You're back now, aren't you? We'll take good care of you from now on, and everything will be fine."
Kaile nodded vigorously, then glanced at Huahua outside before whispering, "Luckily, Huahua is helping me take care of Xiaodi, otherwise I don't know what to do."
"Flowey...how's it going?"
Kaile forced a smile. "She knew what was happening and didn't suffer any physical hardship." But... Kaile felt bitter. His sister was only sixteen when she was kidnapped...
Ningxia nodded in relief. "The little girl must be somewhat traumatized by what she's going through at such a young age. Take them to a medical center for a full-body checkup sometime. I've already told Doctor Tang about this."
Kaile nodded, "I know! Thank you, Lao Xia."
