Chapter Twenty-Five: It Should Have Been This Long Ago

"In this kind of world, you can't rely on anyone."

He Yu dug a hole, intending to bury Bai Liang in it.

He had never done anything like this before, but since he was the only one still alive, and that idiot had indeed brought him some surprises, he had no choice but to take pity on him.

After 252 finished explaining the revised rule, He Yu didn't react much. Only Bai Liang said he felt like vomiting, which was obviously a lie, and everyone knew it.

He turned and walked into the woods, where he leaned against a tree trunk in a pitiful state. He didn't vomit anything for a long time, but he still didn't turn back. He just stared blankly at the sky.

If only things could stay like this forever, without killing, without death, without suffering.

So when Bai Liang took out that summoning card, He Yu knew what was going to happen next; his intuition was always very accurate.

He bound the idiot's limbs with thread, looking completely nonchalant. Bai Liang was stunned for a moment, then said, "Please let me go, I'll find a place to kill myself."

"It's impossible now."

Then it was simple: He Yu tore off all his hands and feet, the threads burrowing into his skin. He fell to the ground and struggled a few times, then quieted down, but he wasn't completely dead yet.

Bad times have come again.

He Yu walked into the woods, picked up the discarded summoning card, which was still stained with blood, and sat down next to the dying man with this piece of trash in his hand.

Bai Liang kept vomiting blood. This was definitely not a comfortable way to die, but he was already used to suffering. Back in the 252 laboratory, they had experienced all kinds of torture.

"You still have the strength to speak?"

He Yu fiddled with the card in his hand, thinking that he would use it as a burial item in a while. He was such a good person. If it were anyone else, they would have already cut off his head. Who would care about the aftermath?

"Before I was taken to the lab, the situation was... also terrible. I had only been out of school for a few years, and I told everyone I was going to make a name for myself..."

Bai Liang murmured to himself. After a while, he stopped and looked at He Yu, as if he hated what kind of monster had killed him, and as if he was completely relieved.

"You're going to die soon, that's enough, stop arguing." He Yu picked up a wild fruit and ate it. He didn't kill the guy out of pity, but because there was no need to waste his energy. He was tired, and in a few minutes, the guy would die from blood loss anyway.

“Only my younger brother believes me… He’s only six years old and just started elementary school. He’s my half-brother, and he was very attached to me when he was brought here, so he believes whatever I say.”

He Yu sighed. Damn it, this kind of flashback scene is so overused.

Why are people so fragile, afraid of death, afraid of the unknown? They already knew they would die in this game, didn't they? Just like the sacrifice data required in every dungeon, their existence is to highlight how great the heroes are. When they die, there will be an idiot called the "protagonist" who lives on with that life.

So he began to bury Bai Liang, praying that he would die soon. Please, you're about to die, so stop saying such ridiculous things.

“I told him that when I make money… I will buy him a lot of toys. He likes Gundam, and those stupid things are ridiculously expensive, but I still agreed. He was overjoyed and talks about it every day.”

He Yu covered his wound with sand, but he didn't even blink.

“The night before he was arrested… I received a call from him. He said… that my mother had been beaten to death. We all knew that bastard would beat her to death, but he just didn’t believe it.”

He Yu was tired, so he stopped what he was doing and thought to himself that this was not something a normal person could do.

Whatever, damn it, let this idiot keep babbling on and on.

“I told him to run… but he said that beast was going to throw him into an orphanage, and that’s no place for a human being to live…”

“My parents are healthy and my family is happy. You have no right to talk to me about this.” He Yu thought for a while and managed to say this. He felt that he should share something good at this moment, so that this guy might die more peacefully.

“I promised him… I would take him out. At least I have to do this. I don’t want to think about what he would do if I died. So I said, ‘Wait for me to come home.’”

He Yu gave a perfunctory reply. A few seconds later, Bai Liang's eyes dimmed, and he finally died.

He shook his head. Such tragic and torturous conversations happen all the time in the world. This person died a worthy death; at least he was able to finish his last words, which already puts him ahead of most others.

He Yu threw the card into the pit; it was stained with blood, but he figured Bai Liang wouldn't mind.

After he finished doing this, he stood up. Usually, a few polite words are exchanged at the end of a funeral, so he stared at the corpse for a while, as if it were something of real value.

This suffocating scene lasted for several dozen seconds. He Yu really couldn't think of anything to say, so he murmured, "Hmm... may you have a safe journey."

Before leaving, he looked back at the pit one last time, wondering if 252 had any conscience and wanted to keep it. After all, this was just a game world. Maybe so. Wasn't that guy the most fond of formalism?

So many people have died; they won't be picky.

More than half an hour later, He Yu walked out of the rainforest and came to a place that was hard to describe. The ground was littered with corpses, some of them curled up in a ball, holding a few unused skill cards in their hands, and blood was still spreading on the ground, looking like it was about to congeal.
