Chapter 59 (Revised) "Did she never...?"
After Xia Yi left, Tang Ci regretted it.
Sheng Yu is afraid of water.
She shouldn't have let Xia Yi call him.
But what's done is done, and now she can only hope that Xia Yi will encounter a rescue team when she arrives in town, so that she won't have to trouble Sheng Yu.
The rain was still falling, and thick, dark clouds pressed down, obscuring the sky. Around four or five o'clock, the sky had completely darkened.
Her soaked clothes were wrapped around her body, and the cold wind blowing through the window hit her skin, making Tang Ci feel dizzy with cold. She shivered and wrapped herself tightly in a blanket, trying to keep her body warm.
She huddled in the corner of the attic for an unknown amount of time, until she finally warmed up a little, but her consciousness began to gradually fade.
Her eyelids were drooping, and she felt the cold water seeping into her feet.
Tang Ci suddenly opened her eyes wide. In the dim light, she saw that everything below was black, and the water downstairs had already flooded the attic.
She scrambled to her feet from the floor, piled all the clutter from the shelf onto the ground, and quickly stood on it.
But the water continued to pour down on her at a steady pace, and Tang Ci instinctively held her breath, as if the cold sewage had already reached her mouth and nose.
A few seconds later, she gasped for breath, clenching her trembling hands tightly to force herself to calm down. She quickly scanned the room, trying to find something that could get her out of the house.
But this attic, which served as a storage room, contained only the kayak and some camping and barbecue equipment.
Just as she was in despair, she glanced out the window and saw a steel ladder mounted on the exterior of the attic.
Tang Ci opened the window and used her last bit of strength to pull hard on the ladder, but the steel frame didn't budge, so she was relieved.
Before climbing up, Tang Ci tied the makeshift tent and blanket to her body. Once she reached the roof, she first set up the tent and then spread out the red blanket and tied it to the top of the tent as a distress signal. After doing all this, she crawled into the tent.
The tent was made of only a thin layer of waterproof cloth, and the inside was filled with cold air. Tang Ci hugged her legs and curled up into a ball, but the cold air still seeped into her body in wisps, making her teeth chatter.
The brain keenly senses the body's desperate situation and begins to automatically flash back to past images.
Her life experience was too limited. From school to work, it seemed like she was always on the move. The only scenery she ever stopped to appreciate was the overgrown back garden of the hospital.
Memories have stripped away the colors of that summer; all that remains in my mind is a black and white silent film.
As Sheng Yu walked, he brushed aside the wild irises that reached his waist, turned around, and looked at her a few steps away with bright eyes, his tone full of impatience.
"—Tang Ci."
Tang Ci was extremely anxious because he was lagging behind. He clenched his fists and stumbled along, finally managing to catch up with him, but then suddenly stopped.
She remembered that at this time, Sheng Yu didn't know her name.
"—Tang Ci!!"
Another shout rang in her ears, shattering the illusion in her mind, and Tang Ci instantly woke up.
Her heart pounded, and she stared wide-eyed in disbelief as she reached out her frozen fingers to pull the zipper on the tent.
Before her fingertips even touched the tent, she heard a hissing sound as the tent was opened from the outside, and a pair of icy hands half-pulled, half-carried her out of the tent.
"Tang Ci," Sheng Yu called her again, patting her cheek with his palm, "Speak!"
Tang Ci looked up into his dark eyes, her mind went blank for a second, and then she suddenly burst into tears.
Sheng Yu's cold, stern face softened as the rain soaked his skin. He pulled her tightly into his arms and rubbed her cheeks hard with his palms: "Little Ci, don't be afraid, it's alright now."
/
Just as Tang Ci had predicted, the town was not severely flooded.
The lifeboat was parked by the roadside. Sheng Yu took out his buzzing cell phone from a waterproof bag, answered it, ignored the angry shouts on the other end, briefly explained the situation, and then hung up.
Tang Ci sat in his lap, her gaze falling on his phone screen, which displayed a series of missed calls, all from Zhou Yiyang.
Her phone still had no signal, so she turned to him and said, "Could you call Xia Yi again? She should have found a place to take refuge by now."
Sheng Yu found the unfamiliar number in his call log. When the call connected, a middle-aged woman's voice came through first. When he said he was looking for Xia Yi, there was a rustling sound on the other end of the line, and then Xia Yi's tearful voice came through the receiver: "Tang Ci? Is that you? Are you alright?!"
Hearing her series of questions, Tang Ci felt a lump in her throat. Sheng Yu put the phone in her hand, and when she answered, her voice was also a little choked up: "We're in town now. Are you safe?"
“It’s safe,” Xia Yi sniffed. “Go to the clock tower in the center of town. There’s a rescue team downstairs. They will take you to the fifth floor.”
The town wasn't big; they arrived at the clock tower Xia Yi had mentioned in a quarter of an hour. The clock tower was next to a shopping mall, where the rescue team was using flashlights to tie a rope around the waist of the little boy they had rescued. Two other rescuers were standing by the window on the fifth floor, waiting to pull the rope.
Sheng Yu rowed the boat, and when the lifeboat stopped by the wall, he got up, grabbed the child's legs, and lifted him up. After the child was caught upstairs, the rope was lowered again, and Sheng Yu neatly tied it around Tang Ci's waist. He patted her head and said, "Go up and wait for me."
Tang Ci nodded, but before she could even turn around to look at him, the rope around her waist was pulled up by the rescuers.
Xia Yi waited in the corridor, and as soon as she saw Tang Ci, she hugged her tightly and said in a trembling voice, "I was so scared."
"I'm fine, aren't I?" Tang Ci patted her on the back, glanced at the dark window, and asked softly, "Didn't you see the rescue team? Why did you call Sheng Yu again?"
Xia Yi shook her head and said in a deep voice, "The rescue team said the valley is too dangerous, with the risk of mudslides and landslides at any time. They said they can only go after the rain stops."
Tang Ci's breathing stopped.
Xia Yi looked at her reddened eyes and asked softly, "What is your relationship with him? He was willing to risk so much to save you."
Before Tang Ci could answer, a figure leaped onto the window.
As Sheng Yu untied the rope around her waist, she jumped out of the window. Once she stood still, she looked at Tang Ciwei and raised her eyebrows, clearly having overheard their conversation.
Tang Ci tightened her grip and introduced him to Xia Yi: "My boyfriend."
Xia Yi smiled knowingly: "No wonder."
The mall was dimly lit, except for a chandelier running in the cinema waiting area.
There were more than a dozen cots on the floor near the chandelier, with people lying on each cot, and some people standing or lying on the floor as well.
Everyone remained silent, and the oppressive air was occasionally filled with conversations and soft sobs.
When Xia Yi arrived, there were no beds available, but the middle-aged woman who lent her her phone offered her her bed when she saw that Xia Yi was pregnant. Xia Yi spread out the blankets on the bed and said to them, "You two can rest here for a while. I just heard from the rescue team that the flood won't recede until tomorrow, so we'll have to spend the night here."
"It's okay, you go to sleep." Tang Ci looked around and saw some blankets on the counter not far away: "We can sleep on the floor later."
Xia Yi wanted to persuade her again, but Tang Ci touched her belly and said gently, "It's not good for the baby to catch a cold."
Tang Ci sat on the edge of the bed and talked to Xia Yi for a few more minutes. After Xia Yi fell asleep again, Tang Ci stood up.
Sheng Yu was standing at the towel counter, bending down to lay a blanket on the wooden floor.
She lifted her foot and walked over.
The only lamp was in front of the counter, illuminating the surroundings. When Tang Ci walked behind Sheng Yu, her eyes widened instantly.
The bright lights illuminated the mud covering the man's body, even his usually clean hair was covered in mud. If you looked closely, you could even see his hands trembling slightly as he tidied the blanket.
Tang Ci suddenly remembered that Sheng Yu was in a similar state when he was rescued from the lake.
A white mist rose before Tang Ci's eyes. She stepped forward, grasped his hand, and choked out, "I'm sorry, were you scared?"
Sheng Yu turned to the side and pulled her away from him a little: "Dirty."
Tang Ci was being pulled by the arm, and she couldn't help but shed tears. Her blurred vision was still stubbornly fixed on him.
Sheng Yu sighed helplessly and wiped away her tears with the only clean hand: "Just a little."
Tang Ci asked through sobs, "Did you come alone today? Why is no one with you?" They had been thinking about escaping all the way from the villa in the evening, so they hadn't had a chance to talk yet.
"We came with the rescue team, but we didn't have enough manpower, so everyone split up to rescue people."
Tang Ci nodded hesitantly, then opened her mouth as if to ask something.
Sheng Yu pulled a blanket over her head: "You're tired, go to sleep first."
Tang Ci pulled the blanket down a bit and nodded.
After a day of trials and tribulations, Tang Ci closed her eyes almost as soon as she lay down, but opened them again a few seconds later. She reached her hand out from under the covers and groped for Sheng Yu's hand, who was lying next to her, and pressed it: "Are you still scared?"
Tang Ci took psychology courses in college. Patients with PTSD have difficulty falling asleep after experiencing a stressful event again.
Sheng Yu propped her elbow up and looked at her with her chin in her hand: "If I'm scared, what can you do?"
Tang Ci slowly placed her hand on his waist: "I can hold you while I sleep, that might make it a little better." Just like you used to do for me.
Sheng Yuwei lowered his eyes and stared at her silently.
Tang Ci's heart pounded, and a few seconds later she awkwardly withdrew her hand.
But Sheng Yu grabbed her wrist and lifted a corner of the blanket: "Come on."
Tang Ci let out an "Oh," sat up, folded her blanket over his, rolled over and crawled into his blanket to hug him. After a while, she warmed her palms on his cold neck and asked, "How are you feeling? Are you feeling any better?"
Sheng Yu took her hand and pressed it against his chest: "Just don't move around, it will be useful."
/
The next day, when Tang Ci woke up, there was no one beside her.
She took out her phone to check the time and found that Xia Yi had sent her a message half an hour earlier, saying that she had been picked up by her family who had arrived early in the morning.
Tang Ci put away her phone, threw off the two blankets covering her, and got up to look for someone. As she passed the window, she saw that the floodwaters downstairs had receded, and the streets were littered with garbage.
A new rescue team arrived in the morning, bringing several doctors with them. The injured were receiving basic treatment in the lobby.
Sheng Yu stood in the corridor with his back to her. He had changed into clean clothes and washed his face, and no longer looked as disheveled as he had last night.
Tang Ci walked closer and saw that he was talking to Zhou Yiyang, who had arrived at some unknown time.
She froze, hesitating whether to go back first.
Sheng Yu had already heard her footsteps and turned to wave at her.
Tang Ci had no choice but to walk over and greet Zhou Yiyang.
Zhou Yiyang responded indifferently, his gaze towards her somewhat cold.
Sheng Yu casually stuffed a piece of bread into her hand, then put the thermometer on her forehead, glanced at her normal temperature, and said, "Eat and go home."
"Let's go to the hospital first," Zhou Yiyang interjected.
Sheng Yu remained noncommittal and placed the thermometer back on the table.
Zhou Yiyang glanced at Tang Ci and said, "Tang Ci has underlying health conditions. Even if you're accompanying her, you still have to go."
Tang Ci wanted to say that she was fine, but realizing that Zhou Yiyang meant that Sheng Yu should get checked out, she immediately agreed, "Let's go to the hospital first, together."
Sheng Yu raised an eyebrow: "I'll listen to you."
Zhou Yiyang clicked his tongue almost imperceptibly.
The flooding in Nanling city was not severe, so the hospital was not as crowded as expected.
Since the tests were different, Tang Ci and Sheng Yu went to the hospital separately for the tests.
Tang Ci had a follow-up examination last month and was not injured yesterday. She only had a few basic examinations done, and then she called Sheng Yu afterward.
The phone rang for a few seconds before being answered, and Zhou Yiyang's voice came through the receiver: "Tang Ci?"
“It’s me. Has he finished his examination yet?” Tang Ci asked.
"It will probably take a while."
"Which department are you in now? I'll come over."
"Okay, come to the psychiatric ward."
Zhou Yiyang hung up the phone after speaking. Tang Ci's breathing became erratic for a few seconds. Clutching her phone, she took the elevator to the psychiatric ward.
Zhou Yiyang was the only person in the psychiatric waiting area. When Tang Ci approached, Zhou Yiyang looked at her with a slightly indifferent gaze.
Tang Ci walked to a spot not too close to him and glanced in the direction of the consultation room: "How much longer will he need to finish his consultations?"
“It’s uncertain; he still needs to undergo a psychological evaluation.” Zhou Yiyang leaned back in his chair, his tone casual.
"Why...why did he do this?" Tang Ci paused for a second before asking.
“He attempted suicide when he first went to Australia.” Zhou Yiyang stood up from his chair and looked her up and down. “You didn’t know?”
/
For a moment, her hearing went blank. She swallowed slowly, and a few seconds later she heard herself ask, "You said he committed suicide, was it because of the scar on his wrist?"
"You saw it, right? How did he explain it to you?" Zhou Yiyang had his usual frivolous smile on his lips, but the smile didn't reach his eyes: "Did he say he accidentally scratched it after drinking?"
Tang Ci moved her lips blankly: "Isn't that how it is?"
Zhou Yiyang shook his head: "That day, my aunt and I called him several times but couldn't get through. I went to his rented apartment to look for him. It was late at night and he hadn't even locked the door. He was just sitting on the floor drinking, and he didn't even feel the blood flowing all over his wrists."
Tang Ci's wrists began to tremble, and she had to clench her hands tightly to continue listening to him speak.
“When I took him to the hospital, he explained that he had accidentally cut his wrist on a bottle, but after the psychologist's examination, he said that he had suicidal tendencies,” Zhou Yiyang said with a smirk, and asked her, “Whose words do you think are more credible?”
Tang Ci's lips, which had been pressed into a straight line, loosened slightly as she repeated his words: "Didn't he feel anything after losing so much blood?"
Zhou Yiyang's gaze deepened, and he didn't answer her obvious question: "He stayed in the hospital for one night and flew back to China early the next morning, saying he wanted to attend a class reunion."
Tang Ci's palms began to sweat, and she said tremblingly, "The winter break of my freshman year."
“Yes, it’s the winter break when you said you were going to attend the class reunion but didn’t go.” Zhou Yiyang’s tone turned serious. “But it was the right thing for you not to go. He was much more normal after he went back that day, and at least he didn’t have to be carried into the hospital again.”
"I'm sorry," Tang Ci said, her voice hoarse, "I was working at the time and didn't know he had returned to China..."
"Did you know you would come back to see him?" Zhou Yiyang asked calmly.
Tang Ci closed her eyes in despair: "I don't know."
“Then stop torturing him.” Zhou Yiyang looked at her and said, “This time too, as soon as he heard that you were trapped, he insisted on going down the mountain, and I couldn’t stop him.”
“There were so many people on the rescue team, but not a single one of them dared to take the risk. As a result, he, who is most afraid of water, braved the flood to go down the mountain.” Zhou Yiyang paused: “If he really dies this time, I don’t know how to explain it to my aunt.”
Zhou Yiyang took half a step towards her, looking directly at her: "Tang Ci, I'll say it again, if you don't have feelings for him, you should let him go as soon as possible—"
"Zhou Yiyang".
A cold voice suddenly came from behind them.
Zhou Yiyang turned to look at Sheng Yu, who had appeared out of nowhere, and asked with a smile, his hands in his pockets, "Finished chatting?"
Sheng Yu strode up to the two of them, lifted Tang Ci's chin, glanced at her red eyes, and asked Zhou Yiyang with a cold face, "What did you say to her?"
Zhou Yiyang shrugged and said half-jokingly, "We just talked about how you accidentally cut your wrist when you were drunk."
Sheng Yu's gaze darkened, and he said in a warning tone, "Yi Yang, this is my business."
Zhou Yiyang tightened his lips, then sighed after a moment: "I'm sorry."
Tang Ci's phone, which she was clutching in her hand, suddenly rang. Seeing that it was He Xiao calling, she steadied her breathing and answered.
He Xiao first asked her about her health, then brought up the company's projects, reminding her to come to work if she had nothing else to do.
Tang Ci agreed in a low voice. After hanging up the phone, she looked at the crack in the floor and said, "You guys go ahead and do your work. Something's come up at the company, I have to go back first."
"I'll take you." Sheng Yu placed his palm on her shoulder.
Tang Ci reacted strongly by dodging away, looking up at him and repeating, "You guys go ahead with your work. My company is very close by; you can go by yourself."
Sheng Yu's face darkened. Looking at her almost pleading expression, he said, "Call me when you get to the company."
Tang Ci gave a mumbled reply, turned around, and quickly went downstairs.
After her figure disappeared into the elevator, Zhou Yiyang took the report from his hand: "What did the doctor say?"
See for yourself.
Zhou Yiyang carefully reviewed the assessment report, found nothing unusual, and handed the phone to him: "Xiang Wen just called. There's been an emergency in Australia. You'll probably have to go back right away."
Sheng Yu opened the message sent by Xiang Wen, her brows furrowed deeply, and she threw herself into a chair with a weary expression.
"Is it a very troublesome matter?"
“It’s a small matter,” Sheng Yu shook his head, “but it will keep me busy for a while.”
"Then what are you afraid of?" Zhou Yiyang sat down next to him and asked.
Sheng Yu let out a heavy sigh, staring blankly at the cold-shining floor: "I'm afraid that if I leave, she will go to Song Ke."
"Maybe I've been waiting here all this time for this moment." He gave a self-deprecating smile. "But when the day actually comes, I'm still afraid."
“How will you know if you don’t try?” Zhou Yiyang said. “If she really goes to Song Ke after you leave, I advise you to give up on her as soon as possible.”
/
Once the torrential rain passed, life went on as usual; once the cicadas' chirping subsided, the height of summer came to an end.
Tang Ci turned the calendar to a new month and suddenly realized that her relationship agreement with Sheng Yu was about to expire.
During the past two weeks, Sheng Yu had been at the headquarters in Australia. Due to work commitments and the time difference, the two had almost no contact.
Tang Ci shouldn't have overstepped her bounds and asked questions, but when handing over her work to Xiang Wen, she couldn't help but subtly inquire about it.
Unaware of the inside story, Xiang Wen smiled formally and asked, "President Sheng is returning to China this weekend. Would you like to pick him up at the airport?"
Tang Ci paused, realizing that this weekend was the last day of the two-month period. She vaguely sensed that Sheng Yu had come to break up with her, and felt a pang of sadness. Her face was expressionless for a few seconds before she managed a faint smile and vaguely declined, "I had something to do that day."
It actually happened.
On Saturday night, Jiang Zheng sent her a message, inviting her to the kidney patients' meeting the next day.
After a sleepless night, Tang Ci took a car to the venue early in the morning. She stood at the entrance in a daze for a long time before Jiang Zheng arrived.
Jiang Zheng was startled when he saw her dazed look: "Why do you look so pale?"
Tang Ci rubbed her eyes and said in a low voice, "I've been working too much overtime lately."
"You still work so hard."
Tang Ci smiled and went to the venue with him.
Not long after she sat down inside, Tang Ci received a work call; she had a client meeting scheduled for the afternoon.
She was unable to participate in the afternoon sharing session of the kidney patients' association, and she and Jiang Zheng parted ways at the door after attending the morning charity event.
Jiang Zheng looked regretful: "The sharing session was quite interesting, you really don't have time to attend?"
Tang Ci shook her head: "Work is pressing."
After undergoing a kidney transplant, she attended kidney patient support groups every year. In the first few years, she enjoyed the sharing sessions the most, but later she also dreaded them the most.
The kidney patients who shared their joy on stage last year may never wake up again next year.
She later met with the families of several deceased kidney patients, and from their grief-stricken expressions, Tang Ci even understood Tang Jianwei's choice for a moment.
For someone like her, who could die at any time, it's definitely better to get rid of her as soon as possible.
/
After picking up President Sheng at the airport, Xiang Wen took the opportunity to report on Ms. Tang's unremarkable activities over the past two days.
She lives a simple life, going back and forth between the company and home, for the past two weeks.
Sheng Yu closed her eyes, leaned back on the headrest, and hummed in agreement. After a while, she asked as usual, "Didn't she go to see anyone?"
When asked this question, President Sheng sounded nervous in the first few days, but in the last few days he has been puzzled.
It seems like Miss Tang should be meeting certain people.
Xiang Wen paused for a moment: "This morning, Miss Tang went to see a friend."
"Who?" Sheng Yu raised his eyes.
"Jiang Zheng."
Sheng Yu frowned, tapping the leather seat cushion with his fingertip: "Want to go get some coffee?"
"No." Xiang Wen shook his head, slightly puzzled, and said, "They went to the kidney support group together."
Sheng Yu's fingertips suddenly stopped: "Kidney Friends Association?"
"It's an event organized by patients with kidney disease." Xiang Wen couldn't help but ask, "Does Miss Tang have kidney disease?"
Sheng Yu nodded. Several years had passed since then, and he considered it a minor matter.
Xiang Wen frowned slightly and said with a sigh, "My cousin had a kidney transplant because of uremia, but unfortunately he still passed away later."
Sheng Yu's palms tightened suddenly: "How long can a kidney transplant typically last?"
“It depends on the individual,” Xiang Wen explained. “If the kidney adapts well, it can be used indefinitely. If the rejection is severe, problems will likely arise in about three to five years.”
Sheng Yu unconsciously twirled his fingertips, and the hideous long scar seemed to still be spreading on his fingertips.
"What time does the kidney support group end?" he asked.
"The evening is over," Xiang Wen said immediately, "but Miss Tang has already gone back to the company. Do you want to go?"
Sheng Yu pinched his throbbing brow: "Let's go take a look."
Two young girls were sitting at the front desk of the venue. When they saw the man push the door open and enter, they paused for a moment, their cheeks slightly flushed, and asked.
"Hello, please come over here to register. Are you a patient?"
Sheng Yu bowed and accepted the pen, signing his name as he said, "My family member is..."
The girl's eyes crinkled as she handed him a brochure: "There's a patient sharing session this afternoon. Just walk straight ahead and turn right to reach the venue."
After Sheng Yu arrived at the venue and found a seat, the previous speaker stepped off the stage, and the host took the microphone to introduce the next speaker.
He flipped through the brochure, which detailed the causes of kidney disease and daily care. Before he even reached the last page, he stopped when he heard a voice coming from the microphone.
“I am a kidney transplant patient,” a well-dressed middle-aged woman stood on the stage and recounted her experience: “I had this surgery five years ago, and my health has been good ever since. I can live a normal life like an ordinary person by taking medication every day.”
A burst of applause erupted from the audience, mixed with cheers of satisfaction.
But the middle-aged woman on stage changed the subject and said calmly, "But just this year, I divorced my husband of twenty years. I was the one who filed for divorce."
The room fell silent. After a few seconds, someone asked, "Why? Is it because your husband treats you badly?"
The woman smiled and shook her head: "He is very good to me, or rather, too good. So good that I feel guilty every day."
“Since I was diagnosed with uremia, and later with dialysis and transplant surgery, he has steadfastly stayed by my side. All I can give back to him is endless fear and worry.”
“It’s like living on ice, not knowing when the ice will collapse.” The woman’s eyes gradually reddened: “I thought that these days of fear would end after the surgery was successful, but after the surgery I fell into even greater fear.”
"I'm afraid my body will reject the transplant, I'm afraid the new kidney will have problems, and I don't know if I can survive the ten-year golden period after the transplant."
The woman took the tissue the host offered, wiped her tears, and continued, "My husband is even more scared than I am because he often wakes up in the middle of the night in terror from nightmares about me going into the operating room. He's such a good person, how can I bear to let him continue living like this..."
The woman continued speaking on the stage, but Sheng Yu could only hear her mouth moving. His ears were filled with a sharp buzzing sound, and he could not hear anything else.
He watched as the people on stage changed one after another, and only after his violent heartbeat calmed down did he get up and leave.
The sun was setting below the horizon, and the late summer wind was still unbearably hot. The heat hit him, but made him feel cold all over.
The belated ice surface was stepped on by him, and with the slightest force, it cracked, causing him to fall into a bottomless ice abyss.
As he rapidly descended, he finally noticed Tang Ci's unusual behavior each time.
His awkward and evasive attitude when Song Ke was mentioned.
The clothes I dare not take off during intimacy.
The shy and innocent expression on their faces when they kissed.
Since our reunion, I've always looked at him with a cautious gaze.
And the body that always had a fever before we parted ways in high school.
He was praised by his elders for his precocious intelligence from a young age, but he acted foolishly in the most important thing in his life.
When Xiang Wen received a work call, he got out of the car and walked to Sheng Yu's side. Seeing Sheng Yu's extremely bad expression, he immediately fell silent.
"Do I have anything to do tonight?" Sheng Yu asked, glancing sideways.
Xiang Wen lowered his eyes and said, "I have a dinner appointment with President Li."
"Push it back."
Xiang Wen paused for a moment, then nodded and said okay.
"Book me a plane ticket to the capital immediately." After saying this, Sheng Yu quickly returned to the car.
Xiang Wen quickly followed, booked the tickets, and drove to the airport.
The sound of someone dialing a phone in the back seat tore through the stagnant air in the car, making one's temples throb.
After about ten seconds, the call was answered, and a gentle male voice came through the receiver: "Is there something you need?"
"Song Ke." Xiang Wen heard Sheng Yu ask, slowly and firmly, into the phone, "Has she ever liked you?"
