Chapter 224 Pregnancy

"His Majesty has arrived!"

The little eunuch shouted at the top of his lungs.

Inside the palace, the concubines all showed joy on their faces, and they all stood up to tidy their appearance. Their bright yellow figures flashed by and disappeared.

They went straight to the head seat.

"Your Majesty," the Empress said with a smile, "I was just chatting with Consort Gui about the imperial concubine selection."

The Emperor of Dongying raised his eyes and looked at Linghu Ning. Linghu Ning curtsied and said, "Your Majesty, I pay my respects."

"Your Majesty, I pay my respects."

The Emperor of Japan waved his hand and said, "Rise, all of you. No need for formalities."

"Thank you, Your Majesty."

The Emperor of Japan took his seat, his gaze lingering on Linghu Ning. The Empress, standing beside him, noticed that the Emperor's eyes couldn't accommodate anyone else, and the smile on her face faded slightly.

"Does the Imperial Concubine intend to help the Empress with the selection of concubines?" the Emperor of Japan asked suspiciously.

Linghu Ning nodded obediently: "Your Majesty the Empress saw that I was bored alone in Jingyang Palace and wanted me to choose two places that I liked so that I could join in the fun."

The Emperor of Dongying immediately looked at the Empress, his eyes clearly showing some displeasure. The Empress was startled and quickly explained, "Your Majesty, I was worried that Consort Gui was feeling very stifled in the palace. Perhaps having more people to talk to would help her recover faster."

"Your Majesty is very kind."

The Japanese emperor had only been sitting for a short while when he was summoned away by a eunuch on the grounds of an urgent message.

After everyone left, the Empress slumped her shoulders and looked thoughtfully at Linghu Ning. She had seen clearly that the Emperor hadn't given anyone else a second glance; his eyes were only on Linghu Ning.

In just a few short months, Linghu Ning has developed such abilities, which truly impressed her.

"Let's call it a day." The Empress rubbed her temples, then, citing feeling unwell, turned and left, taking the arm of a palace maid.

The other concubines looked at each other in bewilderment.

Linghu Ning yawned and left with Chan'er.

As they passed through the Imperial Garden, Chan'er whispered a reminder: "Your Majesty, this servant thinks the Emperor seemed angry just now. Would you like to go and check on him over at the main hall?"

"Why are you angry?" Linghu Ning asked, puzzled.

Chan'er looked around and asked, "Your Majesty, if there really is a selection of concubines, aren't you worried that the emperor's favor will be divided among the concubines?"

Linghu Ning gazed at the branches, where a tree was covered in white pear blossoms. A faint smile appeared on her lips: "I have no desire to be a wicked concubine who brings ruin to the country, teetering on the brink of life and death. Right now, I only wish to quietly accompany the Emperor. As for anything else, I will not think about it anymore."

Beneath the pear tree, a young man in white walked by. A gentle breeze rustled the pear blossoms, which fell onto his shoulders. Upon seeing Linghu Ning, Xuan Yuan Chen paused in his steps.

"What is this?" Linghu Ning asked in surprise.

Chan'er: "This is the Fourth Prince."

Linghu Ning greeted Xuan Yuan Chen with a smile: "Fourth Prince."

Xuan Yuan Chen looked at Linghu Ning's elegant and luxurious attire, his brows furrowed slightly, and he nodded gently. He had overheard their conversation. He stopped and looked Linghu Ning up and down: "I heard that the Imperial Concubine has forgotten many things."

Linghu Ning pointed to her head: "The imperial physician said there is a lot of blood stasis here, but it's nothing serious."

"Doesn't Your Highness want to know about the past?"

Linghu Ning pretended to think and pressed on, "If I was a happy person in the past, I would naturally want to know about the past. But if I am depressed every day, it is better to be in the present."

Xuanyuan Chen was speechless for a moment, then smiled, said "Take care," and turned to leave.

Linghu Ning turned to Chan'er and asked, "Have I ever offended the Fourth Prince before?"

"No." Chan'er shook her head.

She patted her chest, breathed a sigh of relief, and went to the pear tree to take a deep sniff: "Chan'er, why do the pear blossoms in Japan have no scent at all?"

Chan'er was taken aback, and the fragrance of pear blossoms wafted towards her nose.

"What are you saying, Your Highness? The pear blossoms smell wonderful."

"Your Highness, Imperial Concubine!"

Chan'er exclaimed in surprise, seeing the bright red blood flowing from Linghu Ning's nose, and quickly called for help.

Linghu Ning was carried back to Jingyang Palace and collapsed weakly into the arms of the Dongying Emperor. The Dongying Emperor was shocked as he watched her face gradually turn pale.

"How could the Imperial Concubine be like this?"

After feeling her pulse, Imperial Physician Li said nervously, "Your Highness, this is due to blood stasis causing you to fall into a coma. After I perform acupuncture, Your Highness will wake up."

"What are you waiting for? Quickly, do the acupuncture!"

"yes."

Physician Li took out acupuncture needles and inserted them into the acupoints. After only a moment, Linghu Ning opened her eyes with a soft moan, reached out and touched the Emperor of Dongying's cheek, then rubbed her eyes and said, "Your Majesty, why can't I see you clearly?"

The Emperor of Dongying's expression changed slightly, and he grabbed Linghu Ning's wrist: "Ning'er?"

Linghu Ning sat up, looked around, and squinted. The figure reflected in her almond-shaped eyes was blurry. She hid in the Emperor of Dongying's arms in a panic: "Your Majesty, what's wrong with me? Why can't I see or smell anything?"

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, I'm here." The Emperor of Dongying hurriedly reassured him, "The imperial physicians will definitely cure you, don't worry."

"Your Majesty..." Linghu Ning trembled as she nestled in the arms of the Japanese Emperor, weak and helpless, relying on him for support.

After Linghu Ning took her medicine and fell asleep, the Emperor of Dongying looked at Physician Li and asked, "What happened?"

"Your Majesty, it is because the blood clot in the Consort's brain has shifted, obstructing her vision and sense of smell. Recovery will require a long period of recuperation," Physician Li said, trembling.

The Emperor of Japan said in a deep voice, "I don't care what method you use, you must cure the Imperial Concubine."

"Your humble servant obeys."

Soon, news spread throughout the palace that Consort Xuanyuan had fallen ill and was being pampered by the Emperor, who forbade anyone to visit her.
