Chapter 108 The Way to Deal with Fourth Uncle

The appointment in Country M still didn't happen. Gan Tang used the excuse of handing over the work of the Lu Group to heartlessly ignore the disappointment in Chu Jiahe's eyes and waved goodbye to him at the airport.

On the way back, Mo Huaixing drove Gan Tang to see her mother one last time. After Gan's father had passed the critical twenty-hour period, Lu Zhengqian didn't want them to stay in the city for even a day longer.

Along the way, Gan Tang held the pills given to her by Dr. Mu Zi, silently reciting the symptoms after taking the medicine, her forehead covered in cold sweat.

Mo Huaixing turned on some soothing music, trying to ease her tension.

"Why don't I go in your place?"

"No need!" Gan Tang refused outright.

“Alright!” Mo Huaixing didn’t try to persuade him any further, and changed the subject: “The hit-and-run driver has been arrested. He’s one of Fourth Master’s men. He’ll probably get a few years in prison.”

This proves that He Zhong was the one who did it, yet another scapegoat. It seems that becoming the young mistress of the Chu Group really is useful; she even managed to make Lu Zhengqian go to great lengths to act with her.

Gan Tang sneered, "What about He Zhong? Has Lu Zhengqian said how to deal with him?"

"Mr. Fu said he'd wait for you to return to Qinglong Bay to discuss it." This counter-strategy was something Mo Huaixing, in his current identity, couldn't do, and to some extent, it concealed the fact that Fu Cheng had driven the car that hit someone for him.

Otherwise, he would have to go through a lot of trouble to cover it up.

"Why not me, or Fu Cheng?" Mo Huaixing asked.

"Mind your own business!" Though the words were crude, a closer listen revealed a hint of concern.

Mo Huaixing was moved, but also felt a pang of guilt.

Gan Tang saw his gaze in the rearview mirror and said disdainfully, "What are you looking at? I remember everything you've done. If you make me unhappy, I'll send you to jail too."

"Okay, no complaints whatsoever."

"Your words are better than your singing," Gan Tang rolled her eyes.

...

In the desolate suburbs, a motorhome was parked. Outside the motorhome stood Ali and his group of bodyguards.

Mo Huaixing slowly stopped the car and walked around to the passenger side to open the door for Gan Tang. Lu Zhengqian had agreed to let her meet her adoptive parents, but it was only like this—a brief meeting in the desolate suburbs.

Gan Tang glanced at Mo Huaixing instinctively, her eyes filled with undisguised fear. Although she knew the RV was well soundproofed, she was still afraid that her mother would say something Lu Zhengqian disliked, and that Ali would overhear it.

Mo Huaixing stepped forward and offered Ali a cigarette: "Brother Li, shall we go over there and chat for a while?"

"No, please don't call me brother, I can't take that responsibility right now." Despite saying that, Ali still took the cigarette and followed him toward the distant cornfield.

"Open the door!" Gan Tang, holding the pills, climbed into the RV.

The RV was fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Lu Zhengqian was never stingy in this regard.

Gan's father lay in bed with a respirator in his mouth. Gan's mother stayed by his bedside, wiping her husband's face and the back of his hands over and over again, not even noticing Gan Tang approaching.

"Mother!"

The towel in Gan's mother's hand fell to the ground, and she turned her head in shock: "Tangtang..."

"Mother!"

Gan Tang knelt down and threw herself into Jiu Yuan's arms. It had been almost a year since she had cried so unrestrainedly and freely.

"Get up quickly, let Mom take a good look!" Mother Gan helped her daughter sit on the edge of the bed, her hands trembling as she touched her eyebrows and eyes, touching the most precious treasure in the world. Her movements were very gentle, as if any force would shatter it.

Suddenly, Gan's mother said urgently, "Does Chairman Lu know you've come to see me?"

"Know!"

I hadn't seen my parents for a year. My mother had obviously lost weight and her complexion was sallow. My mother, who used to love beauty so much, now had her hair loosely tied up with a rubber band, looking very messy.

"That's good, that's good!" Gan's mother looked at her husband and said excitedly, "Old Gan, our daughter has come to see us. Aren't you happy?"

Looking at her unresponsive father, Gan Tang burst into tears: "Mom, I'm sorry, if it weren't for me, Dad wouldn't be like this!"

Gan's mother scolded, "What nonsense are you talking about? This was an accident, what does it have to do with you?"

Gan Tang choked up, unable to utter the truth: "If it weren't for finding me, you wouldn't have suffered like this."

“What does suffering matter? As long as we can find you, we’d be okay even if we die.” At this point, Gan’s mother clutched her chest in heartache: “I just can’t understand how my own flesh and blood, whom I carried for ten months, became someone else’s daughter.”

"What did you say?" Gan Tang looked at her mother in shock.

“I forgot, Assistant Mo said we shouldn’t say these things, that Chairman Lu would be unhappy if he heard them and it would be bad for you.” Looking at her daughter, Gan’s mother wiped away her tears and comforted herself: “It’s good this way. Now you are a wealthy heiress with a bright future and a good marriage. You no longer have to suffer with your father and mother. Don’t worry, I will take good care of your father.”

Gan Tang looked at her mother. The truth that she had suspected from the beginning but had gradually come to accept was now clearly before her eyes, all she had to do was ask one more question.

But she dared not. She dared not let her mother's heart, already tormented and broken because of her, be disturbed again.

Gan Tang swallowed her words and went to the table to pour tea. The steaming water made it hard to see. She broke open the capsule and poured the tea in.

Mom, will you hate me?

When we got out of the car, the RV was completely silent. Mom was fast asleep, and Dad was barely breathing under an oxygen mask.

Gan Tang's legs went weak as she stepped onto the ground.

"Young Miss!" The bodyguard standing to the side hurriedly helped Gan Tang up.

Gan Tang waved her hand weakly and said, "Send them away!"
