Synopsis - Plot Version:
Just drifting through life at her office job, a certain fish on the line...
She was inexplicably kidnapped.
All because she had a heart that matched a maf...
Mo Huaixing suddenly looked at Gan Tang and said in a daze, "So, it's because of me that my father has suffered for so many years. No wonder he always beat me when I was a child."
The more he thought about it, the more certain he became.
"No, no!" Gan Tang wanted to comfort him, but she didn't expect him to get stuck on this point. She shook her head hurriedly and hugged his chest nervously.
"I'm fine!" Mo Huaixing came to his senses and gently patted Gan Tang's arm. "I just feel a little sorry for my father. That year, he broke his oath when he joined the company and betrayed his faith, but he still couldn't save his wife and children. So he always said that he was a sinner, that he had let down the country and his family. I don't know how he has managed to get through all these years."
Gan Tang shook her head: "No one will blame him."
"But in the end, he betrayed his beliefs. Whatever the reason, betrayal is betrayal." Mo Huaixing sneered, "The only reason he's still alive is to atone for his sins."
This has been going on for thirty years! Gan Tang asked cautiously, "Is Fu Yuanshan really that hard to catch?"
"What, do you think my father is stupid?"
No, no.
His voice was joking, but Gan Tang felt like crying when she heard it. She angrily accused him, "Do you really have to miss me that much?"
“I used to think of him that way.” Mo Huaixing reached out and touched her hair, continuing, “After that, Fu Yuanshan disappeared from the country for ten years, and when he came back, he had changed his identity. His father destroyed the evidence of his crimes, so there was no way to investigate. Seeing him drowning his sorrows in alcohol every day, I despised him as a coward. I scolded him, saying, ‘If you don’t want to live, why don’t you dare to kill him?’ But he said, ‘Justice should be sought in a just way.’”
“Your father is truly admirable.” At this point, Gan Tang snapped at him, “You’re ruthless too, how could you say such a thing about your own father?”
Mo Huaixing said aggrievedly, "You have no idea how cruel he is to me. I just stole an apple, and he beat me so badly that I couldn't get out of bed for three days. Sometimes I even wonder if I'm his son."
Mo Huaixing, who was seeking comfort, was met with a powerful slam dunk at the gate.
"You stole something, and you still think you're right?"
Mo Huaixing asked pitifully, "Boss, whose side are you on?"
“Anyway, it’s not on your side.” Gan Tang smiled and then asked, “Can’t we use the same methods we used on Pang Lou to deal with Lu Zhengqian?”
Mo Huaixing shook his head. "Lu Zhengqian has a clean record. He hasn't touched those things for a long time. Witnesses are easy to find, but physical evidence is too difficult. Even if we catch He Zhong with evidence of his crimes, we may not be able to convict him."
Gan Tang was exhausted: "Was the matter with Cang Lan a waste of time?"
Mo Huaixing shook his head. "Everything is useful. As long as I gain his trust enough, I can infiltrate his money laundering network. Once I know where the money is going, the evidence will be much easier to obtain."
Money laundering! Gan Tang silently memorized this word.
Knowing that it would be a long, long time before she could get closer, Gan Tang secretly moved her body and pressed herself against his. Even though they were separated by a blanket, her heart was still racing with nervousness.
"Mo Huaixing, considering how miserable I am today, could you grant me a favor? It's not difficult."
Seeing her cautious manner, Mo Huaixing smiled and said, "Go ahead."
"Could you tell me your name?"
Mo Huaixing thought it was something serious and asked curiously, "Why do you want to know my name?"
"If I don't even know your name, how can I say I know you?" Every night she dreams, she wants to know his name, but when she wakes up, she doesn't dare to ask him.
Gan Tang turned her head to look at the man beside her, and suddenly felt a little sad: "Now that I know your name, after I die and go to the King of Hell's palace, I can secretly change your lifespan in the Book of Life and Death, and change it to a lifespan of two hundred years."
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Mo Huaixing retorted angrily.
"Really. I'm not afraid of dying now. The only thing I'm afraid of is that you'll die before me." Gan Tang gently pushed him away with her hand wrapped in the blanket. "I know you guys have rules, and I promise I won't tell. Just tell me, for the sake of all the suffering I've endured for you today."
"Suffering for me?" Mo Huaixing suddenly turned his head.
Oops, I said the wrong thing.
Gan Tang chuckled and brushed it off, "Yes, if you hadn't let Pang Lou slip away, none of this would have happened. It's all your fault, all your fault."
"Alright, alright, it's all my fault." Mo Huaixing raised his arm and gently beckoned, "Give me your hand."
"What?" Gan Tang obediently stretched out her hand.
Mo Huaixing opened Gan Tang's palm and wrote his name on it: Sheng Ziyi.
A tingling sensation traveled from her palms to her heart. Gan Tang looked at it with delight and asked, "Why is it the character 'Yi'? Aren't names usually written with the character 'Yi' meaning 'spirited and bright'?"
She had always thought it was the character "奕".
"Only those who dare to wield the chessboard are true warriors." When he said this, his brows were full of youthful vigor, like a soaring eagle, free and brave.
Gan Tang was greatly encouraged and affirmed, "You will definitely help your father fulfill his wish, whether for the country or for your family."
Mo Huaixing nodded firmly, but a hint of melancholy crept into his eyes. No one could guarantee success. He gripped Gan Tang's hand tightly and instructed her, "If I die, go to Fang Heng. He will find a way to save you."
So he thought that her worry about him dying was just because she was afraid of being alone in the drug den, nothing more. Gan Tang suddenly got angry and turned her back to him angrily.
"What's wrong with you?" Mo Huaixing was utterly bewildered by the girl's sudden shifts in behavior—one moment as docile as a kitten, the next as fierce as a wolf. He guessed, "Are you upset that I knew Fang Heng and didn't tell you? But didn't you already guess? It's not that I don't trust you, it's just..."
