In your past life, you looked down on me. Now that I have been reborn, I have become your uncle.
On the day of the engagement banquet, his fiancée went missing.
Having just been reborn,...
"Zhuang Yan, I have found out about the matter you asked me to investigate."
"The psychologist who treated Ms. Tang nineteen years ago is currently in City C. Some of the information has been sent to your email."
The remaining portion can only be obtained after Zhuang Yan pays the final payment.
Zhuang Yan opened the document.
Name: Lin An
Age: 50
Tang Jing, a graduate of a prestigious university's psychology department, opened a psychological clinic, but it soon went bankrupt and left her with a lot of debt. Later, she met Zhuang Zhongming through various means and eventually became the Zhuang family's doctor, mainly responsible for providing psychological counseling to Tang Jing.
He worked for the gambling den for seven years. He was there the year Tang Jing fell ill and killed her daughter. He was a witness and had evidence in his possession.
Zhuang Yan shouldn't have known these things, but Zhuang Chongming told him everything when he was sick in his previous life.
After being reborn, in order to completely break away from the dealer, he naturally wanted to have as many chips as possible. Therefore, after announcing the engagement, he paid a detective who was very famous in his previous life but had not yet made it in this life to help him find out about this doctor.
The results were excellent. After so many years, it was amazing that so much information could be found in just one month, including a clear understanding of personal experiences.
Zhuang Yan replied with a thank you and paid the remaining 200,000 yuan.
Before the recording was even over, the production team had already given Zhuang Yan a share of the profits, which amounted to a whopping 10 million yuan.
Zhuang Yan sent a text message to the director asking, "Director, are you sure I can really get this much? You didn't miscalculate, did you?"
"That's right, you deserve it all."
Since the director said it was what he deserved, he should accept it. He was short of money anyway, but he couldn't accept someone's kindness for nothing.
"If you need my help in the future, just let me know."
The director replied happily, "It's a pleasure working with you."
After returning to Chengdu, Zhuang Yan put down his luggage and washed all the clothes he had brought back in the washing machine. After being away from home for a month, the house was covered in dust. Zhuang Yan didn't rest for a moment and started cleaning. He was busy all afternoon, from day to night. When he finally looked at the time, it was already eight o'clock. He simply cooked a bowl of noodles and ate.
No need to face the camera, not so many people around, quiet and comfortable, you can do whatever you want.
Zhuang Yan took a long, refreshing shower and then booked a flight to City C.
We're leaving at 10 a.m. tomorrow, so it's best to take care of some things as soon as possible.
The flight to City C takes two hours. After arriving at the station, Zhuang Yan turned off airplane mode and someone sent him a text message.
An Xinrong: "What are you doing? Do you have time? Let's go out and have some fun."
Zhuang Yan replied, "I don't have time."
He had barely finished replying when Lu Yan called him.
Zhuang Yan was stunned. Before his mind could process what was happening, his hand had already answered the phone.
Lu Yan asked, "Have you eaten?"
"I already ate on the plane."
"On the plane? You just got home, where are you going again?"
"City C, I need to take care of some things."
"I feel so unaccustomed to eating without you here today." Lu Yan said lazily, as if she had just woken up. "Mr. Zhuang, could you do me a favor when you go back to Rongcheng?"
"Okay, go ahead."
Without even asking, Lu Yan readily agreed, chuckling softly, "Come back and help me move. That's all for now, I'm hanging up. It sounds a bit noisy on your end. You're on the road now, right? Be careful of traffic. I'll wait for you at home. Goodbye."
Lu Yan hung up the phone quickly. Before Zhuang Yan could even say goodbye, the phone went silent. He put down his phone, a slight smile playing on his lips.
Lin An's address was in a small town. It would take another two hours to get to City C. He stood in front of an old-fashioned residential building.
Behind the residential building was a Lin's Clinic. Zhuang Yan looked at his phone and then went inside.
"I'm looking for Dr. Lin, is he in?"
He's off today.
"Then please give him a call and tell him my surname is Zhuang. I'll wait for him here. If it's inconvenient for him to come over, I'll wait at his house."
Ten minutes later, Zhuang Yan sat opposite a middle-aged man with half-gray hair.
Judging from his appearance, Lin An looked more like someone in his sixties than 50. He was overweight, with deep wrinkles on his face, dull eyes, and yellowed fingernails, a sign of years of smoking.
"You're the Zhuang family's kid... How did you find me?" Lin An pulled a cigarette from the pack, his trembling hand betraying his unease.
"Zhuang Chongming mentioned you when he was drunk, and I remembered it. Then I hired a private investigator to find out some things. Dr. Lin, I was too young to remember some things back then, but you are different. At 24, you are at the age where you remember things the most. As the old saying goes, the bad things you have done will come back to haunt you sooner or later. How long do you plan to keep it a secret?"
Clatter—the cigarette pack in his hand fell to the ground. Lin An dared not look Zhuang Yan in the eye and could only shrink back, saying, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Dr. Lin, doctors should have a conscience. Back then, your clinic went bankrupt and you owed a huge debt. You took money from the bookies to pay off the debt and saved your family. Now you have a happy family. Your son is a soldier and your daughter is a nurse."
Lin An suddenly raised his head and asked in a panic, "What are you going to do?"
"I just want the truth, to get justice for myself, and to clear my name of the crime I've carried for nineteen years,"
"But you already know, so why bother asking me?"
Zhuang Yan sneered, "Because they refuse to let me go and want me to live with this guilt for the rest of my life. Dr. Lin, you've seen their true colors, you know what they're capable of."
As he spoke, he looked steadily at Lin An and said, "Don't worry, I'm not here to interrogate you, nor will I expose you in front of your family."
