Chapter 242: Like Welcoming the End of Life Together
Yin Xiu was stunned for a moment when he heard such words coming out of a monster's mouth.
"You don't even know what family is."
"I don't know, but I'm learning." The monster nudged Yin Xiu and threw a few books out of the darkness. "Don't be sad. Look at me. I've just taken shape. I don't know why I was born or what I am. I've only read two human books, so I don't think I'm a human.
"I don't have a family either, none of us do. We could be family."
The monster was talking to him while flipping through the book quickly, "I see that there is nothing about the meaning of family in this book, I need to look for it again.
"You can stay here until I understand what family means."
Yin Xiu slowly looked around, "Is this your home? Why is it so dark?"
"Home? I don't know, but it's dark here most of the time. It's bright occasionally, but rarely. It used to be half dark and half bright, but now it's basically just dark." The monster dug something out of the darkness beside it, and then placed a coffin in front of Yin Xiu with a clang.
"You can sleep here. I've seen humans end up sleeping here."
Yin Xiu looked at the huge coffin in front of him with an expressionless face and did not resist. The monster was right. Humans would eventually sleep in it.
"I can also repair yours." The monster took away Yin Xiu's empty knife handle, disappeared into the darkness twice, and then handed a complete knife to Yin Xiu. "This is a part of me, better than your original one."
Yin Xiu held the intact knife silently, not knowing what kind of existence this monster was. He watched it eat his knife, but then turned around and gave him another identical one.
"So, how about staying here?" The monster stared at him without blinking, as if expecting something.
It has tried its best to retain Yin Xiu.
"Why me?"
"I don't know. You are different from the others who come here. You saw that I didn't scream or run away, so I thought you would stay." The monster's dark eyes did not blink, almost blending into the darkness and making it impossible to see clearly.
Even though he couldn't see its complete appearance, Yin Xiu could still feel the chill and immense pressure emanating from it.
It claims that it has just taken shape, which means it is still very small now. Will it become bigger and more terrifying in the future?
Yin Xiu’s brain could no longer think about things that far ahead. He only felt tired and very exhausted.
He needs to rest, and then go find his sister.
Yin Xiu did not answer it, but crawled into the coffin it had dug out, lay down in it without saying a word, and then closed his eyes.
If the monster wants to kill him, he can't run away. If the monster has no ill intentions, he just wants to rest.
The mental and physical exhaustion made Yin Xiu fall asleep quickly, but even after falling asleep, he did not sleep well. In his dreams, he felt as if he was drowning and could hardly breathe. Every time he woke up suddenly when he was about to drown, he became even more mentally and physically exhausted.
"Are you okay?" A book floated in the air in the darkness. Upon hearing Yin Xiu's voice, a pair of eyes emerged from the darkness and stared at him. "You just sounded like you were about to die. Many dying people make sounds like that."
Yin Xiu sat in the coffin, head lowered in silence, his eyes still without a glimmer of light, "I'm going to find my sister... I'm going to find my sister..."
He murmured as he stood up, walked past the monster and continued along the dark road. His lonely figure looked very tired.
"Okay." The monster responded, watching Yin Xiu walk away, "I'll come pick you up after you're done."
Yin Xiu didn't understand what the word "end" meant, but he soon found out what kind of place this was.
Holding a long sword obtained from a monster, Yin Xiu began his journey of killing the god. His extremely negative emotions and lifeless state made him, covered in blood, a weird nightmare.
After each copy ended, Yin Xiu would go from the door that left the copy to that dark place and stay with the monsters.
"Watch me when I'm sleeping. If you find something's wrong with me, wake me up." Yin Xiu wiped the blood off his body calmly and lay down in the coffin. He would have nightmares every time he slept. They were like dreams of death, and his body and mind were still very tired.
The monster responded, staring at the book intently, and agreed readily, "Okay."
Yin Xiu fell asleep again, but when he was awakened by a nightmare, he looked out of the coffin and saw the eyes floating in the darkness still reading the book very attentively.
It seemed that while he was away, someone else had come here and left some new books for it to read.
Although it was pitch black here, there were real scenes. He could occasionally walk on a piece of soft ground, occasionally touch the water everywhere, and sometimes bump into something like a wooden house. This seemed to be an area by the sea, but it was too dark. He could not see anything and could only follow the monster twisting in the dark.
"Didn't you agree to keep an eye on me?" Yin Xiu sat up from the coffin and said lightly.
The monster turned his head in panic, "I forgot."
It scratched itself in annoyance. "It's too troublesome to have only one pair of eyes. I'll grow a few more pairs to look at you."
Yin Xiu didn't care at first, but the next second a new pair of eyes suddenly popped out from the darkness, followed by a second pair, a third pair... until countless densely packed eyes floated in the air and stared at him without blinking, he realized that the monster really made him grow a lot of eyes.
"This way I'll have lots of eyes to watch you while you sleep." The monster said seriously, freeing up one of his eyes to read.
Yin Xiu fell back into the coffin tiredly. When he raised his eyes, he saw pairs of eyes appearing beside the coffin, staring at him without blinking.
Obviously, this was a very strange scene, but he felt inexplicably at ease. He must have stayed in the mental hospital for so long that even his brain was damaged.
"I'm asleep." He murmured softly. With those eyes around, he didn't need to worry about no one waking him up from his nightmare.
"Do you need me to sleep with you?" A pair of eyes peeked out from the side of the coffin. Then, without waiting for Yin Xiu to respond, the monster surged into the coffin and squeezed Yin Xiu aside.
In the narrow coffin, there was something cold pressing against me, and the chill penetrated me, making me feel uncomfortable.
Yin Xiu closed his eyes calmly and ignored the monster as it twisted in the coffin.
It changed its posture for a long time, and finally squeezed itself into the coffin, squeezing next to Yin Xiu, and then made a satisfied sound, "I just read a book, it seems to be a human novel, and in the end the hero and heroine lie in the coffin and fall asleep together.
"The way we lie now should be considered a collective burial for all of humanity, right?
“It’s like welcoming the end of life together.”
