The child's actions were undoubtedly something they all admired.

After finishing the children's business, they first sent Uncle Kun and the others back. Then, seeing that it was still early, they went to the government building to tell Mayor Guo that she had given the children their medicine, and then discussed the matter of re-registering the children's household registration.

Ruan Ruan's idea was simple. Their previous household registration was now in the village, and since she had taken over their care and they had forgotten what happened before, from now on, they would be the first batch of children sponsored by the charity, and she would be their new guardian. The mayor agreed with her idea and said he would speak with the police. Now that Ruan Ruan was willing to do this, it was a blessing for the children.

After finishing their conversation, Ruan Ruan and Huo Haocheng leisurely made their way to the meeting point.

When they arrived, Zheng Xuyang hadn't arrived yet. Huo Haocheng got out of the car and leaned against it to wait, while Ruan Ruan, having not slept well that morning, simply closed her eyes to rest in the passenger seat.

To their surprise, before Zheng Xuyang arrived, several uninvited guests appeared.

Hearing the commotion from afar, Huo Haocheng subconsciously looked into the crowd and saw Gu Jingxi being chased and beaten by an old woman with a broom.

"Mom, Mom, please stop hitting me, please stop hitting me! I know I was wrong, I'll never do it again, I'll never do it again!" she begged as she dodged.

"You slut, you good-for-nothing! You haven't brought a single penny home, you just eat for free every day, and now you've even learned to steal! I'll beat you to death, you shameless slut!"

Despite Gu Jingxi's pleas for mercy, the old woman remained unmoved and instead increased the force of her blows. As she did so, the onlookers quickly moved away, fearing that the old woman might accidentally hit them instead, and they would have suffered for nothing.

The crowd dispersed, allowing Huo Haocheng to see things more clearly.

As they got closer to the car, Huo Haocheng glanced at the sleeping people inside and wondered if he should drive the car a little further away.

"...Hmm, what's wrong?" She wasn't a heavy sleeper to begin with, and she woke up when she heard the noise, but she didn't really want to get up, so she kept her eyes closed. Now that the noise was getting louder, Huo Haocheng also looked at her.

"...Why don't you come down and take a look yourself?" He didn't know how to talk to her. After all, this person was her nominal cousin. Although he had never met her, she was being chased and beaten by her in-laws, and they had even seen it. If he didn't do anything, it wouldn't be right in front of his uncle and aunt. But if he did, it would be her own family matter. Besides, given her ungrateful nature, he didn't know if he would just cling to them if he did.

Seeing Huo Haocheng's troubled expression, Ruan Ruan stuck her head out of the car door to take a look. When she saw that the person who had been hit was Gu Jingxi, Ruan Ruan also had an expression that was more uncomfortable than if she had swallowed a fly.

She now understood why he had let her see it herself. Now that she had seen it, she wished she had never woken up.

"Is it too late for me to turn back time to two minutes ago?" She looked at Huo Haocheng with a mournful expression, expecting his answer, as if time could really be turned back if he agreed.

"...Wife, if time could turn back, I would want to go back to 20 minutes ago." He didn't want to see this scene even more than she did. If he had known he would see this, he would have preferred to go around to pick up Zheng Xuyang, or stay in Mayor Guo's office and drink a couple more glasses of water.

"Sigh!!!" It was impossible to turn back time, but they couldn't just watch someone get beaten to death in front of them. So, after mentally preparing herself, Ruan Ruan put her hand on the car door handle, muttered "Everything for my uncle and aunt," and then, like a hero cutting off his own arm, opened the car door, got out, and walked aggressively toward Gu Jingxi.

Seeing that his wife had already gone up, Huo Haocheng had no choice but to follow behind her.

She walked over, grabbed the broom from the old woman's hand, glared at her fiercely, and said, "Try hitting her again."

"Where did this little slut come from, meddling in my business? I think you're tired of living!" Seeing that a young girl dared to interfere in her affairs, the old woman cursed even more fiercely. Seeing that Ruan Ruan was still holding onto the broom, she wanted to hit her with her other hand. Huo Haocheng, who was following her, could only pull her back to his side.

The old woman wanted to chase after him to fight, but when she saw the tall man standing in front of her, wearing a military uniform, her momentum waned. She was clearly a bully who preyed on the weak.

"Comrade soldier, is it illegal for me to discipline my own daughter-in-law?" The old woman had never met Huo Haocheng before. Usually, Huo Haocheng was only nice in front of relatives and friends. Her act of trying to hit his wife just now had completely angered Huo Haocheng.

"No matter who you hit, maliciously spreading rumors and assaulting others are crimes. What, are you trying to hit me too?" Huo Haocheng shouted angrily at her.

Seeing the old woman up close, Ruan Ruan felt that although she seemed shrewd and calculating, all she did was engage in underhanded tactics. She noticed that the old woman had raised her hand to hit her earlier, but after hearing Huo Haocheng's words, she immediately put it behind her back.

During this brief moment, Ruan Ruan glanced at Gu Jingxi, who was still lying next to her. Seeing that someone was backing her up, she sat comfortably on the ground, showing no intention of getting up.
