On November 15, the college entrance examination arrived as scheduled.
At 12:00 in the morning, in the apartment that his mother bought after coming to Korea, Ouyang Guang had already woken up. It was still dark outside the window. He rubbed his temples, his brain aching slightly from the days of review. The notes spread out on the table and the tons of comments on the mock test papers proved his efforts during this period.
Peng Xiuhuan had asked Aunt He to prepare breakfast, a bowl of hot squid and pork ribs soup and a few light side dishes. She didn't say much, just patted her son's shoulder gently: "Just do your best."
Outside the examination room, students and parents had already lined up in a long queue. Ouyang Guang wore a mask and a hat, lowered his head and walked quickly towards the entrance, but a few sharp-eyed fans still recognized him and raised their phones with a whisper of surprise. He glanced at them, took the admission ticket, took a deep breath and walked into the examination room.
The exam started at 8:10 am and lasted until 5:40 pm, with only a short break in between.
First subject: Korean
The reading comprehension was moderately difficult, but the essay topic was a bit tricky. After thinking for a while, Ouyang Guang decided to start with the theme of "choice", writing about his own balance between idols and studies, and the collision between dreams and the direction and choices of future life.
Second subject: Mathematics
This was his strong point, and he did quite well on the questions, except for the last calculus question where he got stuck, and he managed to figure out the answer in the end.
Subject 3: English
There were a few vague conversations in the listening section that made him unsure, but he did well in the reading and grammar questions.
Course 4: Korean History/Research
He chose Korean history. The questions were simpler than he expected, but time was a bit tight, so he answered the last few questions almost based on his intuition.
Course 1: Second foreign language/Chinese
He chose Chinese. The questions were not difficult and he completed the translation and reading comprehension smoothly.
When the bell rang to signal the end of the last subject, Ouyang Guang breathed a sigh of relief, his fingers slightly numb from holding the pen for so long. He packed up his stationery and followed the crowd out of the examination room.
The exam was finally over, and Ouyang Guang's tense nerves finally relaxed a little. On the day of the exam, he returned to school to estimate his scores with his teacher. After comparing the answers, he found that his scores were better than he expected.
"With this score, SKY should have no problem." The homeroom teacher pushed up his glasses and said with approval, "Seoul University, Korea University, Yonsei University, fill in the order of your preferences, the probability of admission is very high."
Ouyang nodded, but he was not as relieved as he thought. He did fill in the top three universities in Korea on his application form - SKY (Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University), but if he was not admitted, he still had alternative plans, such as applying to Sungkyunkwan University or Chung-Ang University or Kyung Hee University.
The pressure of the college entrance examination is over, but other problems are coming one after another - if he is admitted, how should he balance idol activities and studies? What will the company's attitude be? What will the members think?
He stood by the window in the school corridor, looking at the students coming and going in the theater, and suddenly realized that he was once again standing at a crossroads in his life. He had to make a choice between idol career and academic studies, or... find a way to balance.
Peng Xiuhuan stayed for a few days after the college entrance examination to confirm that her son was stable before packing her bags to return home. Before leaving, she touched Ouyang Guang's head and said, "No matter what the outcome is, Mom is proud of you."
Ouyang Guang smiled and said, "I will tell you the first time the results come out."
After seeing his mother and Aunt He off, he did not contact anyone. Ouyang Guang returned to the apartment and fell exhausted on the bed.
When Ouyang Guang's college entrance examination results were finally announced, they were as good as expected. His score was enough to be admitted to any of the SKY schools, and finally, the admission letter from Seoul University arrived as expected.
"Seoul University Business School..." He whispered the name of the major, and gently stroked the gold-plated school badge on the admission letter with his fingertips. This conclusion made him feel relieved, but also made him feel a little stressed.
He knew that the days ahead would not be easy. His idol schedule was busy, and his coursework at Seoul University was equally heavy. Would the company allow him to balance both? Would the members understand?
But no matter what, he has made his choice - he will not give up his studies, nor will he give up the stage.
He is ready for the road ahead.
