The wind whistled in my ears, and the cityscape flew by. The motorcycle finally arrived at a professional racing track on the outskirts of the city. The wide asphalt track, the clear signage, and the maintenance area buildings in the distance made everything seem remarkably formal.
"We come here?" Jin Zhiyuan took off her helmet, her long hair was a little messy in the wind, she looked at the empty space with a confused look on her face.
"Well," Ouyangguang parked his bike and got out, "I'll teach you how to ride a bike."
"Me? Learning this?" Jin Zhiyuan pointed at herself in surprise, shaking her head like a rattle. "I don't think so. This looks difficult and dangerous."
"It's not difficult, start with the simplest one." Ouyangguang seemed to have anticipated her reaction and pointed to a corner of the field next to her, where a small, much friendlier-looking scooter was parked.
He walked over, pushing the scooter. "This is an automatic, very simple. Accelerator, brake, that's all." He patted the seat. "I'll take you for a ride and show you the basics."
He climbed onto his scooter and motioned for Kim Ji-won to sit behind him. They drove slowly around the small field, carefully explaining how to control the accelerator, how to brake, and how to coordinate their movements.
Then he got out of the car and gave her his seat: "You come."
Jin Zhiyuan's face was full of tension and resistance, and her hands were clenched tightly. "A Guang, I really can't do it... I'm afraid of falling."
"You won't fall. I'll hold you." Ouyangguang stood beside the car, his tone firm, his eyes filled with unquestionable encouragement. "Try it, it's easy. Don't you want to try the feeling of controlling the direction yourself?"
The idea of "controlling the direction yourself" seemed to touch her. She looked hesitantly at the scooter, then at Ouyang Guang's encouraging eyes, took a deep breath, and seemed to have made a great decision: "Then... then you must hold on to it!"
She straddled the bike, fearlessly grasping the handlebars, her knuckles numb. Ouyangguang held the rear seat with one hand and gently placed the other on the handlebars to steady her. "Yes, just like that. Sit tight. Turn your hands slowly, yes, very slowly..."
The scooter lurched forward, and Kim Ji-won let out a short, startled scream, suddenly releasing her foot on the accelerator, bringing the scooter to a standstill.
"It's okay, it's always like this at the beginning." Ouyang Guang's voice was steady, with a reassuring power. "Try again, look ahead, don't look at your hands."
After four or five attempts, the car finally managed to slide forward a bit. Ouyang Guang, holding onto the rear rack, trotted along beside them. Kim Ji-won's exclamations gradually turned into laughter tinged with excitement. Although the car was still unstable, her tense back visibly relaxed.
"See, it's not that hard." Ouyang Guang's voice was filled with laughter, and beads of sweat oozed from his forehead. Running with a wheelchair is not easy.
The sun was setting, a huge orange-red fireball painting the sky a brilliant warm hue. The clouds looked like an overturned palette, magnificent beyond measure. Their shadows were stretched out in the sky.
Kim Ji-won was finally able to control the car, circling it at a snail's pace. She excitedly called out to him, "Ouyangguang! Look! I can do it!" The wind blew her long hair, and the setting sun cast a warm, golden hue over her. Her face was filled with a pure, joyful smile, the result of overcoming her fear, and her eyes shone with astonishing brightness.
Ouyangguang stood there, hands on his hips, panting slightly. He watched her clumsily yet happily spinning in circles in the warm golden light. He couldn't help but laugh too, and shouted back, "I saw it! Very impressive!"
At that moment, a relaxed and joyful atmosphere naturally spread, softer than the evening breeze.
Practice ended when only the last rays of sunset lingered in the sky. Ouyangguang wheeled the BMW S1000RR over and handed her a helmet. "Let's go. I'll take you to dinner. Are you hungry?"
Sitting in the back seat for the first time, having experienced the feeling of driving a car herself, Kim Ji-won seemed to be less afraid of the speeding car and more experienced. She naturally put her arms around his waist, and her body was no longer so stiff.
The motorcycle roared out of the racetrack and onto a suburban road. Speed picked up, and the evening breeze grew stronger, carrying the scent of field grass and the coolness of the evening. The tall trees on either side of the road receded rapidly, and the distant mountains and fields took on gentle outlines against the darkening sky.
Kim Ji-won was a little nervous at first, but she was quickly captivated by the feeling of riding the wind. She couldn't help but exclaim softly, "Wow..." but her voice was shattered by the wind.
Ouyangguang heard it, tilted his head slightly, and his voice came through the wind: "What?"
"Nothing!" Kim Ji-won raised her voice a little, smiling, "I just feel... very free!"
Ouyang Guang smiled, not looking back, but the car seemed to pick up speed a little. The wind blew their riding coats, making them rustle. The sunset cast their shadows on the road, stretching them very long and fast, as if they were rushing towards the end of the horizon.
The scooter finally stopped in front of a distinctive, rustic-style pizza shop. It was wooden, with warm yellow light streaming through the windows. There were a few tables set up in the yard outside, and the mood lighting was on.
They parked the car and took off their helmets. Their hair was a mess, their faces windswept. They glanced at each other and couldn't help but smile. It was the kind of smile that came from the unspoken understanding of someone who had shared a unique experience.
As they walked into the shop, the warm air and the aroma of food enveloped them. They chose a seat by the window and took off their cycling jackets, revealing simple T-shirts underneath. At this moment, they looked like two ordinary young people who had just finished an adventure.
After ordering, while waiting for the meal, the atmosphere suddenly quieted down. Outside the window, the sky darkened and the stars began to appear sporadically.
Jin Zhiyuan held the water cup in both hands, looked at the Ouyang Yang opposite, and said seriously: "Thank you, Aguang."
"Thank you for what?"
"Thank you for teaching me how to ride a bike, and... for letting me experience these things." She smiled. "Although I was scared at first, it feels really special." Her eyes sparkled in the warm light of the restaurant. "And this dress, I like it too." She pointed to the new cycling jacket she was wearing.
Ouyangguang picked up the Coke cup and took a sip. The cold soda washed down his throat, diluting the slight discomfort. "Nothing, I just thought you'd like it." He paused, as if mentioning it casually, "Besides, this is our first time riding a bike."
The pizza arrived, steaming hot, with long strands of cheese. They were both hungry, so they didn't bother to talk anymore and just started eating.
Kim Ji-won took a bite and squinted her eyes in satisfaction, like a well-fed cat. A little ketchup stained the corner of her mouth.
Ouyang Guang looked at it and subconsciously took out a piece of paper and handed it to him.
Kim Ji-won was stunned for a moment, took it, wiped off the sauce, and smiled a little shyly.
The night outside the window deepened completely, but the lights in the restaurant became warmer.
