The air conditioner at Jeju Airport was turned down very low. Ouyang Guang pulled the zipper of his black hoodie to his chin, put his hands in his pockets, and pulled the brim of his hat down low, revealing only a section of his blond hair. Chen Zheng was wearing a loose red T-shirt and ripped jeans, with exaggerated headphones hanging around his neck. He looked like a neon sign, excitedly peeking out of the glass window of the terminal.
"Guang! Look! That's our plane!" Chen Zheng was almost sticking to the glass in the terminal, pointing excitedly at the silver-colored passenger plane on the tarmac. His signature green hair stood up higher as he moved, like a bean sprout that was wilted by the sun but still stood up straight.
Ouyang Guang lowered his head and swiped his iPhone 3GS. The 3.5-inch screen showed a Sudoku puzzle. This phone was just launched in the United States last month. His father brought it back from a business trip to the United States. He bought it at a specialty store during a layover at San Francisco Airport. It was a gift for his junior high school graduation. The black piano-painted back shell glowed with a low-key luster under the lights of the terminal.
I still remember that late at night when my father came home exhausted. Without even changing out of his suit, he mysteriously took out this gift from his briefcase, with a rare gleam in his eyes: "This is the newest model, and it hasn't even been launched in China yet."
"Ignore him. Is he distracted again?" He Ziqi's voice came from the side. "He can even fill in the Sudoku incorrectly. It seems he is really nervous."
He Ziqi sank into the waiting chair, and the arm muscles under his black T-shirt tightened as he stretched. He tilted his head to look at Ouyang Guang, with his signature smirk on his face: "What? Are you afraid that the turbulence on the plane will knock your breakfast out?"
"Get lost." Ouyang Guang locked the screen of his phone, and the smooth glass surface reflected his frown. He stuffed the phone into his jeans pocket, and the metal frame felt cold against his thigh. On the flight to Sanya, they encountered strong air currents, and the entire cabin was shaking. The stewardess was holding the handrail with a pale face. The feeling of being completely out of control made his palms sweat when he thought about it now.
He Zilin closed the Korean travel guide in his hand, and the cuffs of his light gray linen shirt swayed slightly with his movements. He pushed his gold-rimmed glasses, and his eyes behind the lenses were gentle and understanding: "A Guang just doesn't like the feeling of leaving his life to someone else." He glanced at Ouyang Guang's tense jawline and added: "Especially when this other person is a captain at an altitude of tens of thousands of feet."
"Want to play my PSP?" He Zilin took out a black game console from his bag. "I just downloaded a game."
Ouyang Guang shook his head. Damn it, how come He Zilin knew everything? He remembered that at Happy Valley last week, Chen Zheng had dragged him to ride the roller coaster. After he got off the roller coaster, he vomited all over the place. He Ziqi took a photo of it and posted it on QQ space. It was still circulating in the class group.
"Would you like some water?" He Zilin took out a bottle of mineral water from his bag at some point, and the cap had been carefully unscrewed. Ouyang Guang noticed that it was the "black shop price" mineral water sold at the airport for 15 yuan a bottle.
When he took the water bottle, his phone vibrated in his pocket. It was probably some spam text message. Who still believed in "aviation safety" these days? Air crashes were reported every now and then in the news. Those statistics were no comfort to anyone. But he would never say this out loud. It was too embarrassing.
Zhang Ming sat opposite him, holding the identity document that Li Yuxun had just handed over, and flipping through it with a frown. Li Yuxun stood beside him, sweat still dripping down his forehead, rubbing his hands nervously: "Teacher Zhang, don't worry, our company is absolutely formal. This time we really just invited them to watch the concert, there will be no additional arrangements..."
Zhang Ming said "hmm", closed the file, and looked up at Ouyang Guang: "A Guang, are you sure you want to go?"
Ouyang Guang didn't look up. The shadow under the brim of his hat obscured his expression. He only said "hmm" softly.
Zhang Ming sighed and returned the document to Li Xuxun: "Okay, but remember our agreement - you must return to the hotel before ten o'clock."
Li Yuxun felt relieved and nodded repeatedly: "Of course, of course!"
After boarding the plane, Ouyang Guang sat by the window, and Chen Zheng squeezed in next to him, looking around excitedly. He Ziqi and He Zilin sat in the row in front of them, one lazily slumped in the seat, and the other was still quietly flipping through a book.
The plane began to taxi, and Ouyang Guang's fingers unconsciously clasped the handrail.
"A Guang, you're not really scared, are you?" Chen Zheng came over and poked him with his elbow with a smile.
"Shut up." Ouyang Guang had a cold face, but his Adam's apple rolled slightly.
The feeling of weightlessness during takeoff made him close his eyes subconsciously, and the roar of the engine and Chen Zheng's exaggerated "Wow" were in his ears. After the plane stabilized, he slowly opened his eyes. Outside the window was a sea of clouds, and the afterglow of the sunset dyed the sky red.
