After Divorcing by Agreement: The CEO's Wife Cried with Regret

Fifth anniversary of their marriage.

He Lingchuan had prepared a table full of lavish candlelight dinner, waiting for his wife Shen Yanxi to come home to celebrate. However, she took their tw...

Chapter Forty-Four is not saying I'm irresponsible.

He Lingchuan frowned; Shen Yanxi had never been so agitated before.

It seemed to be true. Ignoring his current mental state, he dressed and walked out, asking, "Did you check the surveillance footage? Where did they last disappear?"

"Don't pretend here. Let me tell you, if anything happens to the child, I will never let you off the hook."

Shen Yanxi hung up the phone without hesitation. He Lingchuan's face turned pale. He said a few words to Gu Chengze and drove away from the company.

If the two of them really did sneak out, they probably wouldn't have gone too far from the villa.

These two children are quite smart; they wouldn't put themselves in danger.

Did they really go out on their own?

Even if the two of them wanted to leave, the butler should have stopped them.

He Lingchuan rested his chin on one hand, feeling that something was amiss about the matter.

He searched the villa area but couldn't find anyone. Just as he was hesitating whether to call Shen Yanxi to ask about the situation, a news article popped up.

He Lingchuan never paid attention to these things unless the content was related to Shen Yanxi.

After he clicked on it, he saw a photo. Although it was a bit blurry, he could still recognize who was in it.

Zhou Mingyan occupies most of the space in the photo, holding two children in his arms. If you look closely, there is another person next to him. He Lingchuan doesn't even need to zoom in to know who that person is.

"Chen Yanxi? They found the child?"

He Lingchuan immediately called Shen Yanxi, but before he could speak, he heard a reproachful question from the other end: "How exactly do you take care of the child?"

Shen Yanxi kept repeating the same question to He Lingchuan, who stared at the photo, his nails digging deep into his palms: "Where are you now?"

He Lingchuan arrived at the destination mentioned by Shen Yanxi in just twenty minutes.

He went upstairs and saw that the two children were unharmed, and he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Where was it found?

"You still have the nerve to ask?"

Shen Yanxi blocked He Lingchuan from entering the room: "What kind of father are you? How can you be so irresponsible? I heard from the children that you left them both alone at home. He Lingchuan, what were you thinking?"

He Lingchuan's expression grew increasingly grim as he listened to her questioning.

He came here after working all night, not so that she would scold him.

"Let me see the child first."

"You are not qualified to look after the child."

"So do you have it?"

He Lingchuan had been holding back, not wanting to argue with Shen Yanxi here. It was she who kept pushing his limits.

He reached out and poked Shen Yanxi's shoulder: "You said I have no right to say I'm irresponsible, but what about you? Are you responsible? You clearly knew these two children didn't like me, yet you still entrusted them to me. What was your reason?"

He Lingchuan didn't care about anything else now: "You're the most irresponsible one."

"At least I didn't lose my child."

"Yes, you didn't lose the child. You just abandoned the child to someone else and went to take care of a stranger. You only blame me when something goes wrong with the child. Of course you're not wrong."

He Lingchuan was fed up with him always nagging him whenever something happened.

She had been enduring it all before they got divorced, and now she expects him to keep enduring it too? Doesn't she, Shen Yanxi, have done anything wrong?

He Lingchuan's accusations and questions left Shen Yanxi speechless.

She stood there, stunned, unable to utter a single word.

Seeing her dazed expression, Zhou Mingyan spoke up from the side: "Stop arguing, it's my fault, it's all my fault. If I hadn't been injured, Xixi wouldn't have taken care of me, the child wouldn't have been left unattended, and wouldn't have been lost."

Zhou Mingyan looked guilty, and his eyes reddened as he spoke. The next second, tears welled up in his eyes.

Shen Yanxi looked distressed, all her anger dissipating completely. All she could see was Zhou Mingyan: "This is not your fault, it has nothing to do with you."

"How could it be no problem? I wish I hadn't gotten hurt. It's all my fault for being so useless."

"It's good that you know."

He Lingchuan stood by and made sarcastic remarks, but he only felt annoyed when faced with the sharp look that Shen Yanxi gave him.

He crossed his arms over his chest and watched the man act with a cold expression.

It has to be said that Zhou Mingyan is indeed very good at handling Shen Yanxi.

He knew all too well what Shen Yanxi couldn't stand, and every word he said struck a nerve with her.

After she comforted Zhou Mingyan, the two children's checkups were finished.

Fortunately, there was nothing seriously wrong. The two children were just a little frightened and have calmed down now.

After they came out of the monitoring room, He Lingchuan grabbed their wrists and checked them over from front to back, only breathing a sigh of relief after confirming that they were not injured.

How did you get out?

He Lingchuan questioned the two children with a cold face. He had never argued with the children before, and this was the first time.

"We want to go find our mother."

"We don't like you, you're a bad person."

“You’re a monster, we don’t want you, we want our mother.”

He Lingchuan raised his eyebrows, and his sharp gaze frightened the two children so much that they dared not utter another word.

They looked at Shen Yanxi, wanting to hide behind him.

Seeing this, He Lingchuan said coldly, "They depend on you so much, you should take good care of them."

After leaving those words, He Lingchuan turned to leave.

He had just taken a step when Shen Yanxi called out to him from behind: "Take the children back with you. When we were looking for them just now, Mingyan twisted his ankle again. I can't just ignore it."

"Aren't you worried about me?"

He Lingchuan deliberately asked her, and Shen Yanxi felt a little embarrassed. She frowned and said, "Keep a close eye on them."

She crouched down and looked at the two children: "You two must not run around, listen to your father, understand?"

"We don't want it..."

"Nanchen, don't be disobedient. Mom is very busy right now."

They were disrespectful to He Lingchuan, but genuinely afraid of Shen Yanxi.

She shut the two children up with just one sentence. They nodded obediently and looked at He Lingchuan cautiously: "Then don't scare us anymore."

“Listen to me, how could I possibly scare you?”

He Lingchuan touched the wound on his head: "Do you really want me to tell the truth?"

Thinking about what they had done yesterday, Nan Chen and Bei Chen were afraid that Shen Yanxi would blame them, so they lowered their heads and remained silent, behaving very obediently.

Before leaving the hospital, He Lingchuan couldn't help but remind Shen Yanxi: "Don't forget who your family is. You should know what's more important."

...

When He Lingchuan got home, he noticed that his two children looked a little off as soon as he finished cooking dinner.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

He Lingchuan touched the two children's foreheads; they were a little hot.

Nan Chen clutched his stomach with both hands, tears welling up in his eyes: "My stomach hurts, it hurts so much, am I going to die?"
