After serving time in prison for her sister, she was forced to marry a man destined to die young, living a meager life. Little did she know, this dying man would transform into the supremely powerf...
"Don't worry, Liu Peng is just angry. Besides, President Yu won't take this little thing to heart," Sister Ding comforted her.
Xiang Jin remained silent. Her colleagues were unaware that she had been to prison or that President Yu did not allow her to drive, so their understanding of the situation was completely different from Xiang Jin's.
"Here, eat up, Guan Ming bought this for you." Xiang Jin was still in a daze when Sister Ding handed her a box of food.
Guan Ming, who is that?
Xiang Jin was somewhat confused.
Sister Ding pointed to the man picking up goods not far away. He was wearing glasses and was a bit better looking than the average person. He was the courier of this warehouse, but Xiang Jin had never paid attention to him before.
Noticing her gaze, he looked up and smiled at her, a smile that was somewhat shy and bashful.
"Don't let his hard labor fool you, he owns several houses, all from demolition compensation. You'd definitely not regret living with him." Sister Ding's smile held a deeper meaning.
Xiang Jin didn't understand her implied meaning; she just silently ate a mouthful of rice while still thinking about the complaint.
Liu Peng has been reported; this is definitely true.
There's only one answer: Lin Miaomiao went back on her word.
She just didn't understand why she was doing this; why make things so complicated out of nowhere.
"Ah Jin, your phone is ringing." Seeing that she was lost in thought, Sister Ding quickly handed her the phone. Xiang Jin didn't look at the caller ID and answered the call.
"Ah Jin, let me treat you to dinner tonight. Do you have time?" It was Lin Miaomiao's voice on the other end.
Xiang Jin's expression was somewhat cold.
She just sold her out, but now she's pretending nothing happened and warmly inviting her to dinner. What is she really up to?
"Ah Jin, why aren't you answering me?" the voice on the other end said again, seemingly forgetting that she couldn't speak.
Xiang Jin hung up the phone and sent a text message: "I'm busy with work, I can't go."
Then I went back to work.
On the way back, Xiang Jin was somewhat absent-minded. Human hearts are indeed the most complex thing in the world. She had suffered so many losses and injustices over the years, yet she still hadn't learned how to deal with them.
"Bang—"
She was thinking too much, and when she braked, she didn't hold the brakes firmly enough. Her bicycle accidentally bumped into another vehicle, leaving a shallow mark.
However, the traces are not obvious and cannot be seen at all if you don't look closely.
"Are you blind? How do you ride a bike?!" A burly man with a beer belly got out of the driver's seat and berated Xiang Jin without saying a word, spitting all over his face.
Xiang Jin quickly apologized and used sign language.
"So he's not blind, he's mute," the burly man said disdainfully.
Xiang Jin pursed her lips, her face pale: "I'm sorry, I was just distracted and accidentally bumped into your car. How much do you want? I'll pay for it."
She still had some savings, which she had earned from working before she went to jail, and she brought them with her when she got married.
Today was just so unlucky, with complaints and a car accident, sigh!
"Money? Do you know how much my BMW is worth? Can you afford to pay for it?" The burly man swung his arms and looked Xiang Jin up and down. His eyes suddenly changed, and some bad thoughts popped into his head.
“I know this is a BMW X1. Just name your price, and I’ll pay for it.” Xiang Jin has been in the Xiang family for so many years; she can’t be so clueless as to not recognize it.
The burly man stroked his chin and licked his lips: "Judging from your appearance, you probably don't have much money to offer. How about this, you come with me to the car, and I'll teach you how to pay it off."
He grasped Xiang Jin's wrist.
Xiang Jin was startled and instantly understood what was happening, and began to struggle violently.
However, the difference in strength between men and women was too great, and no matter how hard she tried, she could not break free. Just as she was about to be dragged into the car, a pair of hands suddenly grabbed the big man's hands.
Feng Jianian stepped forward and blocked her path.
He first glanced at her arm, which was red from being pinched, then looked at the burly man in front of him: "It's just a scratch. Name your price, and I'll pay for it."
The burly man sized up Feng Jianian and, seeing that he was just an unremarkable-looking man in ordinary clothes, became even more arrogant: "Who do you think you are?"
"Judging by your appearance, you're just an ordinary wage earner, right? Do you even know who I am? My cousin is the head of the Industry and Commerce Bureau. Be careful not to anger me, or you'll lose your job!"
The big man went to push Feng Jianian, but Feng Jianian cleverly dodged him.
Losing your job?
Feng Jianian scoffed: "Fine, I'd like to see how you make me lose my job."
The man was surprisingly unafraid, which surprised the burly man: "Kid, I won't make things difficult for you. I'll give you one last chance. Make this woman go to the car and apologize to me, or you'll regret it!"
He looked at Xiang Jin again, his gaze greedy, his intentions clear.
Feng Jianian narrowed his eyes slightly.
His smile carried a chilling undertone: "Is that so?"
With a backhand slash, he pinned the big man down. Before the big man could react, a barrage of fists rained down on him, causing him to cry out in pain and beg for mercy.
"Take this money and get out! If I see you again, you'll lose your life." Feng Jianian threw a wad of cash at the man's face, his voice low and frightening.
Feng Jianian pulled Xiang Jin away.
The burly man quickly picked up the money, glared fiercely at Feng Jianian, then started the car and sped across the puddle.
Xiang Jin was the first to react. She pushed Feng Jianian away, but ended up getting splashed with dirty water herself.
"Are you alright?" Feng Jianian quickly wiped the dirty water off her face, frowning as he looked at her filthy body.
"It's nothing." She smiled faintly, her mood suddenly brightening even though she had just been angry and upset.
"You can still laugh after all this?" He seemed even angrier than she was, glaring at the BMW several times.
"Seeing you makes me happy." He protected her once again, which made her feel like she had the whole world. It was as if the grievances she suffered during the day and the bullying she had just endured had all been resolved and had become unimportant.
Seeing the unusual gleam in her fox-like eyes, his gaze deepened: "Is that so? Then how about you quit your job? I can support you."
"No." She shook her head desperately.
"Why?"
“Jianian, I don’t want to become a waste.” She gestured in sign language.
She didn't want to rely on anyone because she knew that no one in this world could be relied on forever, and even Feng Jianian would get tired sometimes.
"A woman like you is quite rare," Feng Jianian said. Normally, she relies on his power to gain more benefits, but she insists on relying on herself.
The two walked along the road toward Fengjia Village.
As they were nearing home, they suddenly saw a large crowd gathered on the side of the road. The two of them stepped into the crowd and saw several thugs wielding sticks and smashing a BMW.
The car owner was shouting hoarsely beside him; it was the same burly man from before.
"You thugs! I'm calling the police! I'm going to arrest you! You dared to smash my car! I'll put you in jail!"
