Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Tree Spirit of the Kettle Forest

During their short journey, Li Aili forged a deep friendship with the centaur girl, White Rose.

They felt like they had known each other for a long time.

Especially when talking about "jasmine flowers," the two of them always have endless complaints.

"Help! Do you know what that scene was like? There were over 1,600 knights sitting in the banquet hall."

"Your Jasmine kicked down the door, completely bewildering over 1,600 knights, hahaha~"

"That assassin guild reportedly used an expensive magical teleportation scroll to send her in."

"The result... hahaha!"

"This is the first time I've ever seen such a bizarre assassination attempt. The thing is, she chickened out. After realizing something was wrong, she said, 'Sorry, would you believe me if I said I went to the wrong place?'"

"Hahahaha, hahaha, hahaha~" White Rose laughed until her stomach hurt.

She rubbed the tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes. "She's always been like this since she was little, with a bunch of weird ideas, causing trouble every few days, and then getting chased and kicked by the clan leader, oh, that's the Bone-Breaking Tree."

Li Aili patted her on the shoulder, "There's a saying in my hometown."

"God, oh God of Light, if you close a door, you will always open a window."

White Rose pondered the meaning of those words for a moment, then immediately wagged her tail excitedly, "Then how many doors must the God of Light open for Jasmine after closing so many windows?"

Li Aili: "..."

"It's also possible to stack these doors together and open one super large door."

The two looked at each other in silence, then burst into laughter.

Soon, the agile riders arrived at the heart of the Water Bottle Forest.

There is a vast lake here.

It's like a 'sapphire' embedded in the ground.

The blue lake is surrounded by beautiful, tall trees. It is late autumn, and the red and yellow leaves dance in the wind, creating a scene as beautiful as an oil painting.

Li Aili: "Wow~ so good..." Before she could even say the word "beautiful".

All around, the trees twitched and twisted, their trunks contorted and their outlines deformed.

In the blink of an eye, they all transformed into men and women wielding weapons, their faces grim and menacing.

Their clothes are made of lush foliage, and their long, green hair is like delicate vines.

“It’s a tree spirit, don’t panic,” White Rose said.

However, things didn't go as the centaurs expected.

The tree spirits gradually gathered around, surrounding the centaurs.

Li Aili sensed something was off. "Are you sure you're close to the tree spirits? They look like they're about to gang up on us..."

The men and horses were forced to gather together, back to back, forming a circle.

The Bone-Bone Tree sensed something was wrong and impatiently flicked its tail. "My tree spirit friends, we have no ill intentions in coming here."

The tree spirits watched him coldly.

“These centaurs brought humans with them,” a treant said angrily.

"Centaur! Get the humans you brought out!"

"Get out of our territory!"

White Rose took the longbow from her chest and whispered to Li Aili, "Something's not right. If a fight breaks out, hold on tight, and I'll get you out of here."

Li Aili looked completely bewildered. "What on earth is going on?"

“I’ve never seen a tree spirit like this before…” White Rose frowned.

“They are a very gentle race, unless…”

At this moment, Zhegumu shouted at the tree spirit with a dark face, "Centaur have never been the enemy of tree spirits!"

"But! My tree spirit friends, if you insist on fighting with swords, then... ouch!"

He was kicked in the butt by White Rose.

The white rose smiled and said, "My tree spirit friends, what happened? What's making you so nervous?"

The broken-boned tree glared angrily at the white rose, gritting its teeth as it said, "I am the leader!"

"Centaur aren't friends of humans either, so why are you with humans?" a male tree spirit coldly questioned.

White Rose said, "We have been entrusted by her to come here to make a deal with our tree spirit friends."

Furious, Zhegumu kicked out and roared at Bai Meigui, "Damn it! I'm the leader, Bai Meigui! I'm the leader!"

White Rose calmly replied, "Don't worry, when we can't reach an agreement and we have to resort to force, I'll definitely let you go first."

A tall female tree spirit stepped forward from the crowd, wielding two swords, and coldly stared at Li Aili on White Rose's back.

"Centaur, where is your dignity? To be used as a mount by humans, do you consider yourself livestock?"

White Rose rolled her eyes. "I was just carrying my friend on my back, why are you all so critical?"

Li Aili's heart was pounding. She roughly counted that there were hundreds of tree spirits surrounding them, but only a few dozen humanoids.

Good heavens, unless each of them can take on ten, if there's even the slightest mishap during communication, they won't be able to leave alive today.

The tree spirit's expression darkened further upon hearing White Rose's words. "Have the centaurs stooped so low as to befriend humans who are like bandits?"

The Bone-Breaking Tree lashed its tail in a huff, "Everyone says we're not!"

The female tree spirit said, "Shut up, I wasn't asking you."

Broken Bone Wood: "..."

“…Um, can I say a few words for myself?” Li Aili raised her hand.

The tree spirits stared at Li Aili with unfriendly expressions.

If their gazes were knives, Li Aili would be riddled with holes by now.

The female tree spirit narrowed her long, narrow eyes slightly: "Speak, human."

Li Aili calmly replied, "I am not a robber, and I have no grudge against you."

“Look at these carts behind me; they're full of supplies I'll use to trade with you.”
