Chapter 213 The Moth Appeared

It was completely dark when they all went home.

Cheng Zhi went inside and then came out again, spraying insecticide around the hallway before finally closing the door.

She went inside, blocked the doorway, and then sat by the window.

She looked at the few scattered lights in the darkness, unable to imagine how many people were left in the world, and how few would remain after this.

Cheng Ye came out of the room and saw Cheng Zhi sitting alone in the dark. If it weren't for the moonlight, she would have blended into the night.

He walked over and handed the flashlight to Cheng Zhi, saying, "It's so scary when it's dark and you don't turn on the lights."

Cheng Zhi held a flashlight and shone it on his face. "Cheng Ye, you're really not afraid of insects, are you? Have you forgotten that some insects are attracted to light?"

Cheng Ye completely forgot about this, and he quickly reached out to turn off the flashlight. "You knew that, yet you still shone it in my face. Aren't you afraid of making things worse?"

As Cheng Ye spoke, he sat down on the chair opposite him and looked at the moon in the sky. "Actually, we don't need any artificial light. The moonlight is enough."

Cheng Zhi yawned and leaned back lazily in her chair. "Want to play a game of chess? By the moonlight."

Cheng Ye gave his sister a disdainful look. "Don't pretend to be sophisticated, okay? All you know how to play is Ludo and Gomoku."

Cheng Zhi wasn't annoyed. She spread her hands and said, "It's pitch black. Do we have any other entertainment options?"

Cheng Ye was about to retort, but before she could even open her mouth, her parents came out of their room.

Cheng's mother rubbed her hands excitedly, "Children, let me tell you a story, just like when you were little."

Cheng Zhi got excited as soon as this was mentioned, and she raised both hands and feet in agreement.

However, Cheng's father and Cheng Ye were not really interested in participating.

Cheng Ye was extremely unwilling, her face scrunched up in a grimace. "Are you going to tell me about folklore and ghost stories or haunted houses again? Mom, please let me go."

Yes, Cheng's mother is someone who particularly loves horror stories.

When the two siblings were very young, they didn't want to go to sleep, so their mother would tell them ghost stories. One of them listened with great interest, while the other was so scared that she almost wet her pants.

Clearly, Cheng Ye is the latter.

Cheng's mother patted Cheng Ye's head and said reassuringly, "Don't worry, we won't be talking about our local topics today."

Cheng Ye leaned back tactically. "You know about foreign countries too?"

Cheng's mother proudly raised her head, "Of course! I watch a lot of short videos myself. Today I'll talk about UFO hijacking incidents that you young people like to hear!"

This is so trendy! People are starting to dabble in extraterrestrial life.

Cheng Zhi returned carrying a bag of onion rings and salt-baked chicken wings. "I'm all ready!"

Cheng's father hugged Liu Liu as if she were his lifeline, with a sense of resignation. "I'm ready too, so tell me!"

Cheng Ye looked at her empty hands and quickly called out, "Wait, I'm not ready yet. Let me go get a blanket."

On the other side, Huang Yiyi was sprinkling insecticide along the corner of the wall and the crack in the door in the dark.

Seeing that she kept tripping and falling, Xiao Feiran couldn't help but say, "We have lights. If you really can't, just turn on a flashlight. It'll only be a little while, nothing will happen."

Huang Yiyi immediately refused, "That won't do. Haven't you heard of moths flying into a flame? They love to go where there's light. I can't turn on the light."

Xiao Feiran glanced outside, but there was no sign of any insects. Besides, they were on the 13th floor; even if there were, they wouldn't be here so quickly.

Xiao Feiran tilted her head. "Whatever makes you happy."

On the entire 13th floor, only Qi Yanche's room had lights on.

There was no other way; Chen Yiyi had to help Qi Yanche change his dressing, and without the lights on, she might miss some of the injuries.

French Fries squatted on the bed, motionless, holding a flashlight in his mouth, helping Chen Yiyi with the light.

Chen Yi peeled off the blood-soaked gauze and gently wiped away the bloodstains with a cotton ball soaked in iodine.

"I told you we couldn't lie to them. They're so shrewd, they'd definitely give themselves away," Chen Yi said as he cleaned.

Qi Yanche's wound was both painful and cold, and he couldn't help but frown. "If I hadn't fallen that day, I would have been healed long ago, and we wouldn't have been exposed."

Chen Yi laughed when she heard this, "Brother Yan, they suspected us on the very first day, okay? Whether your wound is healed or not is another matter."

That seems to be true, and Qi Yanche was powerless to refute it.

After everything was changed, Chen Yi took the flashlight off and patted the well-behaved French fries. "Oh, French fries are so cute. I'll open a sausage for you later, okay?"

While still getting dressed, Qi Yanche called out in disgust, "Chen Yiyi, don't suddenly clamp me!"

Chen Yiyi rolled her eyes. "I didn't put any fries in your hand. Besides, you sometimes put your fries in your hand like that when you talk to them! Let's not talk about each other."

Qi Yanche: "..." Did he have one? How come he didn't know at all?

Just as he was reminiscing, Chen Yiyi, who was petting the dog by the window, suddenly lost her smile.

He stared out the window and said, "They're here."

Afraid of aggravating his wound, Qi Yanche turned around with difficulty and saw two moths clinging to the glass.

Since the lights were off, Qi Yanche could only make out their outlines and sizes by the moonlight.

Two of them didn't seem to cause them any panic, but after it lingered for a while, some unidentified liquid appeared on the glass.

Qi Yanche couldn't see clearly. "Is that its excrement?"

Chen Yi couldn't see clearly from a distance, so he tiptoed over and said hesitantly, "I don't think so. The color is very dark; it looks more like...blood?"
