The apocalypse arrives, but the five girls in Dormitory 806 haven't realized how serious the situation is until their roommates die one by one before their eyes. It wasn't until Cheng Zhi h...

Chapter 43 Siberian Wolves

Cheng Zhi seemed determined to get a pet, and no amount of persuasion from several people could dissuade her.

Xiao Feiran earnestly took Cheng Zhi's hand and said, "Want a pet? That's fine. We'd love to have a cat or a dog too."

Huang Yiyi, who was driving, kept her eyes straight ahead, but said, "Yes, that's the point. We're not against you, but going to the zoo to find pets is really unreasonable."

The last time Zheng Wan went to the zoo was when she was in elementary school. She thought about it carefully in her mind, "Siberian tigers, African lions, rhinos... how many lives do you think we have to support them?"

Cheng Zhi: "..." Why are they all large, ferocious beasts?!

For a moment, Cheng Zhi couldn't find any words to refute, so she could only put her hands together and plead, "Please, just let us take a look. What if there are any particularly docile animals?"

No one objected anymore; they said it was okay to go and take a look, but we just couldn't bring them home.

They encountered no other vehicles along the way and arrived at the zoo entrance without incident. The zoo hadn't been visited in a long time; it was littered with withered branches and fallen leaves. And because of the recent flooding, there was also a lot of trash and other unwanted items inside the park.

The signs that should have been at the entrance were nowhere to be found, having been swept away by the flood. They could only wander through the park, one area at a time, armed with their weapons.

Seeing that some doors and windows had been broken by the flood, Cheng Zhi became nervous and instructed everyone, "Make sure you have your weapons ready, preferably all of them should be replaced with stun guns. Some doors are broken and animals have already escaped."

Seeing the sign on the wall that read "Big Red Kangaroo," Zheng Wan wasn't so worried. "It's nothing, just a kangaroo."

Hearing Zheng Wan say that, Huang Yiyi was completely baffled. "What do you mean 'just a kangaroo'? It could easily kick your head off!"

Zheng Wan: "?!!!" I apologize for my youthful ignorance. Is it too late for me to leave now?

Xiao Feiran tightened his grip on his weapon. "Be careful, don't let your guard down. We might be the weakest fighters in this zoo."

Without human supervision and feeding, many large predators have escaped.

For example, the large iron gate of the park that used to house Siberian tigers has long since disappeared, and there is no longer any trace of Siberian tigers inside.

There were zebras in the zebra enclosure next door, but they were zebra carcasses. Looking at the lacerations on their bellies, they guessed that it was probably done by carnivores.

After touring the entire zoo, the large birds of prey were nowhere to be found, the herbivores were either dead or injured, and the birds of prey had long since flown away.

Cheng Zhi was extremely disappointed and looked dejected. "The sloths and Angolan giant rabbits that I was looking forward to before I came are all gone. Even a kangaroo would have been nice."

Chen Siyu sighed, "There's nothing we can do about it. People can't even survive in this world, let alone animals."

They spent half a day wandering around the zoo. Xiao Feiran carefully observed the surrounding environment and found no trace of any boys, which meant they must be at the resort.

“Let’s go, let’s go to the resort and meet up with the guys.” Zheng Wan put her arm around Cheng Zhi, who was still immersed in disappointment. “At least the guys have fries, we can just call them over to play together from time to time.”

Mentioning French fries made Cheng Zhi feel a little better.

Even though the fries are bald, it's still a dog, and dogs will always be man's best friend.

Just as the five of them were about to turn back, Cheng Zhi caught a glimpse of a gray shadow in the corner of her eye.

Cheng Zhi immediately raised her stun gun, staring intently in the direction they had just come from. Seeing Cheng Zhi's reaction, the other four also tensed up and raised their weapons.

A rustling sound came from a tree hollow in the distance, and soon a small gray cub appeared in front of everyone.

The little creature seemed to have just learned to walk, its four legs moving independently, and it ran to Cheng Zhi's feet and bit Cheng Zhi's pants.

Everyone was stunned, especially Cheng Zhi, who looked down at the little guy and finally managed to utter, "How can there be a husky in the zoo?!"

Xiao Feiran remained vigilant, staring ahead, fearing that its parents might pounce at any moment.

Chen Siyu rummaged around on the ground and finally found the description that had been hanging on the wall. She gasped, "Hiss—a husky?! This is a Siberian wolf! A ferocious beast!"

Cheng Zhi looked at the tiny little thing in front of her, who wasn't even as long as her forearm, and asked, "You call this thing a ferocious beast?"

“He’s still small, but his parents must be huge! If they pounce on us, they could bite us to death. You should give their child back right now!” Chen Siyu looked at the little creature as if it were a ticking time bomb, terrified.

Zheng Wan, standing to the side, was not so worried. "Generally speaking, animals are very protective of their young. Since they haven't jumped out yet, they probably won't jump out again."

Cheng Zhi was already completely charmed by the fluffy cub. She squatted down and hugged the little thing in her arms. "Where are your parents?"

The wolf cub couldn't understand human speech; it just tilted its head and howled.

Cheng Zhi's heart melted at just one word, and she took the cubs and headed towards the wolf den. The other four, weapons in hand, followed closely behind.

Just as they were getting close to the tree hole, they smelled a putrid odor.

Behind the big tree, there was the carcass of a mother wolf, her neck and belly torn apart by the claws of some wild beast, her internal organs spilling out.

Generally speaking, if an adult wolf is killed, the cubs will certainly not be spared. It's a mystery how this wolf cub has survived to this day.

Upon seeing the corpse, the wolf cub struggled to jump out of Cheng Zhi's arms and gently nuzzled its mother's head, as if that would wake her up.

The five of them fell silent, unsure of what to do with the cub.

This was the first living creature they had seen since entering the park, and it was a cub.

They wouldn't be so conflicted about anything like rabbits or alpacas, but this was a wolf cub.

They're so cute, I can't bear to leave them behind. But if I take them home and raise them, what if they grow up and eat them all?

The five people just stood there, staring blankly at the cub.

Cheng Zhi almost bit her lips raw, "You guys think Siberian wolves and Siberian dogs aren't that different, right? If we do a good job of socializing them, it shouldn't be a big problem, right?"

Xiao Feiran's brows were so furrowed they could almost trap a fly, looking at the little thing in front of him that was already digging a hole. "But the blood flowing in its veins is that of a wolf!"

Zheng Wan, who was squatting to the side, saw through it but didn't say anything. She poked the cub, who was focused on digging a hole, with the stick in her hand. "Have you ever heard the saying that when you are considering whether or not to do something, you already have the answer in your heart?"

After Zheng Wan finished speaking, everyone was stunned for five seconds.

Cheng Zhi scooped up the cub and hopped away, saying, "Let's go!"

Huang Yiyi, who was afraid of even kangaroos just moments ago, is no longer afraid and chases after them, exclaiming, "Great! We have a pet now!"
