Bai Xizhu only survived three years in the apocalypse before she died. Returning to before the apocalypse, she accidentally activated a portable space, which came with ancient mythical beasts from ...
The bus slowly drove towards the village.
Before even entering the village, Bai Xizhu saw an old man carrying a basket on his back walking out of the village from afar.
The old man seemed to have difficulty walking, stopping frequently as he walked, and he was carrying a sickle in his hand.
Every now and then, he would bend down and rummage through the lush weeds, putting some wild vegetables into his basket.
The old man looked somewhat hunched over, with the typical skin tone of a farmer; he was clearly a simple and honest peasant.
It was rather strange that he had come out of this mysterious village.
It's even stranger that an ordinary person came out of a strange village.
"Does he smell of decay?" Bai Xizhu asked Shui Hui, then opened a crack in the window for Shui Hui.
The zombie king looks just like a human, making it hard to tell the difference; the snake's nose is the most reliable indicator.
The serpent sniffed hard, then shook its head with a confident look.
“No, Master, he is a human, but he must have been in contact with monsters a lot, because he smells of decay!” the water snake said.
"Could it be another village like Peach Village?" Bai Xizhu asked in surprise.
Humans and zombies are clearly locked in a life-or-death struggle, yet a village like Peach Village has emerged.
This was the first time Bai Xizhu had ever seen a way of life where humans and zombies could coexist peacefully.
Now, could it be that a second one has appeared?
The reason such a village exists is quite simple: a zombie king appears in such a village, and this zombie king happens to be non-bloodthirsty and able to control its instincts.
Has even the King of Sorrows come to this realization?
Are zombies' bloodthirsty instincts so easy to control?
Some are unlikely.
Bai Xizhu glanced cautiously at the village and whispered, "Stop the car every now and then, keep your distance from the old man, and don't get too close to him!"
"good!"
Bai Yifan was initially a little scared, but when he heard the water snake say that the old man was human, he was no longer afraid.
However, following Bai Xizhu's advice, he braked when he was quite a distance away from the old man.
"Grandpa, excuse me, where is this place? We're just passing by and we've run out of water. Could we go in and get some?"
Bai Xizhu smiled gently at the slightly hunched old man in front of her.
In the apocalypse, clean water is a precious commodity for people in cities.
In rural areas, it's not considered particularly precious, as almost every household has a well, and the groundwater is generally clean.
However, there are many mutated animals in rural areas. If you accidentally encounter a mutated rat swarm or other gregarious mutated animals, it could be a disaster.
Therefore, safe bases are generally established in towns and cities.
Some people also fetch water from the city to the countryside, but the risks on the road are too great. It's much more convenient and safer to have a water-type ability user.
Therefore, all safe bases especially welcome water-based ability users and offer them generous benefits.
The hunched old man stared blankly at the bus parked in front of him, his gaze falling on Bai Xizhu's face.
Because the bus windows were special, you couldn't see inside from the outside; he could only see Bai Xizhu leaning out of the window and smiling at him.
His first thought was that the little girl in front of him was very young, probably of school age, and looked harmless; she was a little girl.
At this age, one shouldn't be in this place.
He felt a pang of melancholy. If the world hadn't ended, the little girl in front of him would probably be just like his son—a good student, a good university student, and a good job.
"This is Sheep Village, there's no clean water here, you'd better leave quickly!"
The old man shook his head at Bai Xizhu in a hoarse voice, then walked to the middle of the road, looking as if he wouldn't let her pass.
The old man had a sallow complexion and a thin build.
Like most elderly survivors, the old man did not enjoy his later years in peace and comfort during the apocalypse.
In the post-apocalyptic world, the only way for ordinary elderly survivors without superpowers to survive is to rely on their children or a safe haven that respects and cares for the elderly.
But such safe bases are almost nonexistent.
To survive in the apocalypse, you need strength and special abilities. There are no safe bases; the only reason for treating the elderly well is to do good deeds.
Even those with superpowers struggle to get enough to eat, so who would think to treat an elderly person well?
"But we really have no water left. Let us go and get some water!"
Bai Xizhu took a close look at the old man in front of her and felt that there was a faint trace of sorrow in his eyes.
Bai Xizhu didn't care too much. In the apocalypse, such a look was nothing. Many people's eyes were filled with despair.
"No, there's not much water left in the village. You should go check other villages!"
The old man's voice carried a hint of stubbornness. To show that he didn't want the bus to go in, he even picked up a sickle and gestured defiantly at the bus.
However, the movement of his thin arms was not threatening at all; rather, it was somewhat comical.
However, the look in his eyes that refused to let the Bai family enter the village was firm.
As darkness fell, the last rays of the setting sun shone on the old man, making him look like a sculpture that had stood for a long time.
"I'm sorry, sir, we really need to go get some water. We'll be right back after we get it."
Bai Xizhu didn't sense any malice from the old man in front of her. The village was filled with the flesh and blood of zombies, but the old man in front of her was human.
This village is even stranger than Peach Village.
But the two old men, Wang and Liu, are very likely inside, so we definitely have to go into the village.
