Three days later, You Shuyao went out to work. As expected, Cuiwei had taken over Huo Jingsha's job as her personal maid, and she was told to go see Steward Sun.

Steward Sun said that she had been ill for too long, and the master could not be without someone to take care of him for a day, so he moved Cuiwei there and found someone else to replace her. After this back and forth, only one vacancy remained in the kitchen.

The kitchen? It's completely different from where she used to be. You Shuyao sneered after hearing this.

That was the work of a lowly maid. Maids with good looks like her and Cuiwei were assigned to the inner courtyard to do delicate work such as serving tea and water to their masters. There was no way she would be assigned to the kitchen. This Steward Sun was clearly doing it on purpose.

Steward Sun was smug, not believing that Shu Yao could endure it; he was sure she would turn pale upon hearing it. However, he was wrong this time. When Shu Yao first entered the manor, she was the most beautiful among all the maids. But no matter how he hinted or suggested, the girl remained unmoved and didn't even glance at him. She only spoke a few words to him when he slipped her some silver to become the master's personal maid.

As far as Steward Sun was concerned, all the maids in the mansion were under his control. If he took a fancy to a maid, it was that maid's good fortune. How could she refuse him? He had been in the mansion for several years. Although he was currently just a small steward in charge of the backyard, it wouldn't be long before the position of head steward was his. You Shuyao's ungrateful behavior only fueled his desire to conquer her. He vowed to get her no matter what.

You Shuyao was determined to stay away from Huo Jingsha, so she was transferred to work in the kitchen and moved out of her original separate bedroom, which suited her perfectly. The difficulty lies in the fact that she is acting under orders and cannot leave the Huo residence without the leader's permission. The worst fear is that the organization has not only sent her alone, but may have others lying in ambush, monitoring her every move. Therefore, if she leaves on her own, the leader will soon discover her.

The conclusion is that it is best not to act rashly now, but at least to understand the surrounding situation before taking decisive action.

You Shuyao thought that staying in the kitchen would keep her away from Huo Jingsha, but she did not expect that fate would continue to oppose her, just like in the previous nine lifetimes. She had only been working in the kitchen for a few days when a shocking event occurred in the mansion.

"Catch the assassin!"

In the quiet main courtyard, a terrifying roar suddenly erupted, like a thunderclap from a clear sky, plunging the entire mansion into turmoil.

You Shuyao was adding firewood to the furnace when she heard the word "assassin" and her heart skipped a beat.

They quickly stopped what they were doing and followed the other servants to the courtyard where the incident had occurred.

An older woman working in the kitchen grabbed a young servant and asked, "What's wrong?"

The servant was also terrified. "Something terrible has happened. Someone tried to assassinate you, sir, but it seems they've already been caught."

"What? Assassins have infiltrated the Governor's Mansion? This is terrible! Is the lord injured?"

"I heard that he mingled among our servants, but his ambush failed, and he was captured by the master instead. He's currently fighting with several guards, but he's definitely not going to survive!" After saying this, the servant hurried off to watch the commotion. The other servants, hearing this, became even more curious and wanted to go and see for themselves.

You Shuyao silently followed at the back, secretly pondering to herself that there really were other assassins in the manor besides herself.
