Chapter Thirty-Six: The Wolf King

The system remained as unfocused as ever: "Oh dear, the list has no limit, it'll never fill up no matter how many you add!"

The system was already on the verge of getting beaten up, but thankfully it repented in time: "Since you've been added to the affection list, it means you can be won over, darling."

Ye Nianzhen felt the system was useless: "Kneel down and be done with it."

System: "Alright!"

Ye Nianzhen then checked on another woman—Lei Lang would fawn over any woman, so his favorability rating was probably quite high.

But... after clicking on it, it was only five percent.

This can be described as a record low.

Ye Nianzhen raised an eyebrow.

This changed her perception of her old teammate; she realized that beneath his unrestrained instincts lay extremely rational emotions.

This made things even more difficult, but fortunately Ye Nianzhen knew his weakness.

*

The thatched hut was destroyed, and the group could only find a rock to shelter them from the wind, where they cooked their picnic.

Mingyuan's culinary skills, as always, impressed everyone, including the smug Lei Lang.

He originally followed a wolf pack and was used to eating raw meat and drinking blood.

Mingyuan pulled out pots and pans of various sizes and seasonings, but he scoffed at them.

But when Qin Qiu hunted venison, Ming Yuan carefully cooked it, and the aroma made his mouth water.

His thick, drooping tail betrayed his eagerness, wagging rapidly incessantly.

Ye Nianzhen saw through it but didn't say anything, and handed over a whole deer leg, which made Luo Shui so angry that she jumped up and down.

Lei Lang took the deer leg, his nose twitching, and saliva continuously secreted from it.

He finally couldn't resist and took a big bite. The outer crust was crispy and fragrant, while the inside was soft and juicy. He finished it all in no time.

Since the team was lured in with delicious food, Ye Nianzhen gave the second deer leg to Luo Shui.

The Luo River is no longer the naive and unsophisticated Luo River of yesteryear.

He chewed slowly and deliberately, while mocking Lei Lang and Zhu Bajie for eating ginseng fruit without tasting it at all!

Lei Lang didn't argue with him; he had no interest in men.

Dogs are naturally inclined to swallow their food, and some of their teeth have become sharp, so they have become accustomed to this method.

This didn't stop him from enjoying the food, so he reached out to Ye Nianzhen, openly expressing his desire for another piece.

Ye Nianzhen took a fork and stabbed a piece of plump, tender meat.

"How about I give you a chance to win me over?"

Lei Lang raised an eyebrow: "Why are we still talking about this?"

Yeh Nien-jen: "I am very stubborn, and I will not give up until I achieve my goal."

“If you don’t want to be harassed by us from now on, tell me why you can’t leave here.”

Lei Lang scoffed: "Who said I can't leave?"

Ye Nianzhen didn't speak, only looked at him with clear eyes.

The meaning was clear—I already guessed it, there was no need to pretend.

The truth is, Ye Nianzhen did know, but she couldn't say it directly; she could only ask indirectly.

Lei Lang gave him a "what the hell" look: "Ah, really."

"Okay, okay, what's the harm in telling you?"

A look of recollection crossed his face: "It was the wolf king, I killed it."

"But its soul also bound me."

"It has a very good friend, a little human girl."

What Lei Lang was about to tell was a beautiful fairy tale.

There is a small village at the foot of the mountain.

The village is inhabited by simple and kind-hearted villagers.

There are ancient legends about thunder wolves in this mountain, so the villagers cherish the wild wolves in the mountain.

So when the little girl found a wolf cub whose mother had been killed by poachers, she adopted it.

Animals grow very quickly; the little girl remained a little girl, while the wolf cub grew into a strong adult wolf.

It was time to send it back to the mountains. The little girl was reluctant to part with it, and they made a promise to always remember and protect each other.

This wolf had no rivals in the mountains and forests, and soon became the wolf king.

It would often go back to visit the little girl, keeping a distance so as not to disturb her too much.

Several years passed in this way, and then the apocalyptic catastrophe struck.

*

Before the natural disaster struck, various natural calamities occurred frequently, blocking the roads down the mountain.

So when the plants and animals mutated, and the wise wolf king wanted to rush to the village to protect the little girl, he found himself powerless.

It emerged victorious from the battles between mutated plants and animals, leading the wolf pack to gain the power of lightning.

This was the third day of the final catastrophe.

The mutation spurred the evolution of its brain, giving it intelligence that was nearly human-like.

However, its physical structure does not allow it to speak.

"If it could talk, it would definitely tell me what happened when I was in a killing frenzy..."

"It's going down the mountain to save someone."

Thunder Wolf encountered the apocalyptic catastrophe while traveling through a mountain tunnel.

The train was buried by a collapsed mountain, but he relied on superhuman willpower and physical strength to dig a tunnel out from a small hole.

Hunger, external energy stimulation, and exhaustion—every factor tormented his nerves.

He was no longer in his right mind; he would kill anything that attacked him and then eat it!

It tasted so bad he vomited acid, but he ate it anyway in order to survive.

When he encountered the wolf pack, his thought was—this thing can't be bad-tasting.

The battle raged for three days and three nights, leaving both sides battered and bruised, while the wolf pack whimpered in fear nearby.

Thunder Wolf was about to die, but he snatched the magic crystal from the wolf king's forehead and, as if possessed, ate it.

Suddenly, thunder and lightning struck the overcast sky, and the wolf pack scattered and fled. The Thunder Wolf, exhausted, lay on its back facing the sky.

He watched helplessly as the winding, purple lightning struck him directly from the sky.
