Chapter 15 Lighting the Soul Lamp

After Venerable Lieyang finished his announcement, the apprenticeship ceremony continued.

"Ye Feiyu." The sect leader suddenly called out Ye Feiyu's name.

"Ye Feiyu is here!" Ye Feiyu quickly stepped forward.

"Would you be willing to become my disciple?"

"I'm willing!" Ye Feiyu was very excited. He quickly bowed to the sect leader and said, "Disciple greets Master!"

"Hmm." The sect leader stroked his beard and gestured for Ye Feiyu to stand behind him.

Next, Kong Xiang is the only one left in the top three.

"Kong Xiang, who do you wish to become your disciple?" the elder in charge of asking the question asked.

Kong Xiang bowed respectfully to the Grand Elder and said, "Kong Xiang wishes to become the Grand Elder's disciple. I wonder if the Grand Elder is willing to accept me as a disciple?"

Kong Xiang stood upright, neither humble nor arrogant, which made him very likable. The Grand Elder nodded and agreed to accept Kong Xiang as his disciple.

"Kong Xiang pays respects to Master." Kong Xiang performed the disciple-acceptance ceremony to the Grand Elder, thus the top three disciples all chose their masters.

Next comes the selection of inner and outer disciples. An elder can take any disciple they find pleasing as an inner disciple, while outer disciples are selected by outer sect elders.

After the disciple-acceptance ceremony concluded, Venerable Lieyang led Shu Lan and Qin An to the rear hall. The rear hall was filled with the life-bound soul lamps of all the direct disciples, inner disciples, and elders of the Star River Sect, including the sect leader.

Venerable Lieyang took out an exquisitely crafted soul lamp and explained to Shulan, "By dripping a drop of your blood into this soul lamp, you can make it your natal soul lamp. The soul lamp can detect a person's condition, and it goes out when the person dies."

"Junior brother, now drip your blood into the soul lamp." Shu Lan did as she was told, squeezing a drop of blood from her fingertip and dripping it onto the soul lamp held by Venerable Lieyang. The soul lamp immediately ignited, its flame a beautiful icy blue.

"Junior brother, have you decided on your Daoist name? I want to inscribe your name and Daoist name on your life-life lamp."

After thinking for a moment, Shu Lan said, "Let's call him Han Qing!"

"'The shadows of pine branches sway, the stone chime rings out in the cold.' It's a fine title." Venerable Lieyang nodded, engraving Shu Lan's name and Daoist title onto his natal soul lamp. Then, with a wave of his hand, he sent the soul lamp to the top floor, placing it alongside his own soul lamp.

Next, Venerable Lieyang took out an ordinary soul lamp and handed it to Shu Lan. "This is for your disciple. As his direct disciple, he should also have a soul lamp."

Shu Lan handed the Soul Lamp to Qin An, instructing him to follow her previous demonstration. Qin An bit his fingertip, dripping his blood into the Soul Lamp, which then ignited with a golden-red flame.

Shu Lan engraved Qin An's name on the soul lamp, and then placed the soul lamp under her own soul lamp.

After everything was settled, Venerable Lieyang handed Shulan a purple-gold token. "With this token, you can enjoy the same treatment as me. This token allows you to access the top floor of the Scripture Pavilion, where you might find suitable cultivation techniques, manuals, or rare books."

"Oh, right." Venerable Lieyang handed Shulan another white jade token. "This is your disciple's token. Imprint your divine sense into it and then drip your disciple's blood into it. From now on, this will be your disciple's disciple's token."

“Other disciples’ tokens are green and can only be used on the third floor of the Scripture Pavilion. Your disciple’s token is of a higher level, since your disciple is of the same generation as the sect leader. This disciple’s token can be used on the fourth floor of the Scripture Pavilion.”

"Yes, thank you, Senior Brother." Shu Lan accepted the white jade disciple token and thanked Venerable Lieyang.

After Shu Lan imprinted her divine sense onto the disciple token, she had Qin An drip her blood onto it. Then, Qin An's name was engraved on it, and the disciple token became Qin An's.

"Let's go take a look at the Sutra Repository." Shu Lan took Qin An's little hand, and Qin An obediently followed behind Shu Lan.

Previously, when Venerable Lieyang showed Shu Lan around the Star River Sect, Shu Lan had already memorized the location of the Scripture Pavilion.

Now, Shu Lan carried Qin An and flew to the Sutra Repository on their swords.

The Sutra Repository was a five-story building, constructed entirely of an unknown type of wood. The entire structure was shaped like a round tower, solemn and imposing. Outside the Sutra Repository was a protective array, preventing outsiders from entering.

When Shu Lan and Qin An entered the Scripture Pavilion, there was only a brief, slight obstruction before it disappeared. At the same time, the tokens on their bodies lit up, allowing them to enter the Scripture Pavilion.

The first floor of the Hidden Treasure Pavilion is an area accessible only to outer disciples. It's filled with countless secret manuals, including numerous cultivation techniques and martial arts skills.

Shu Lan led Qin An towards the second level. Between the first and second levels was a barrier, which only allowed inner disciples to pass through. Of course, for Shu Lan and Qin An, this barrier was merely for show.

The second floor had half the number of manuals, but the quantity was still considerable. Next, they went to the third floor. The third floor had even fewer books, but more handwritten notes.

"Xiao An, do you want to choose what you want on the third floor, or do you want to choose on the fourth floor?"

"Master, I think haste makes waste. The fourth level isn't suitable for me right now. I'll choose the third level instead." Qin An thought for a moment and made his decision.

"Okay, then Xiao An, you can choose what you need on the third floor now. I'll go to the top floor first." Shu Lan patted Qin An's head. "Wait for me here."

"Okay, Master Brother." Qin An obediently replied.

Shu Lan continued walking upwards. He passed the fourth floor but did not stop, and went straight to the fifth floor.

There are very few secret manuals on the fifth level, but there are some jade slips and handwritten notes for transferring skills.
