Chapter 3 Picking Up a Child

Shu Lan looked around and saw a group of burly men chasing a raggedly dressed child.

The child dodged left and right, constantly running forward.

The group of people were getting closer and closer to the child, and it looked like they were about to catch him.

Shu Lan couldn't stand it any longer and shouted, "Stop!"

The group ignored them and continued chasing the child.

The child tripped over a stone and fell to the ground. The group of burly men rushed forward to grab him.

Shu Lan descended swiftly, landing beside the child. With a swift swing of her longsword, she chopped down many large trees.

The group of burly men stopped, looking at Shu Lan's somewhat youthful face with disdain. "Who are you, kid? How dare you obstruct our business! Brothers, attack! Arrest him too!"

"Hmph!" Shu Lan revealed a trace of pressure. With just this trace of pressure, the group of burly men were forced to bend over, and some even knelt on the ground.

The group of burly men then realized they had messed with someone tough. They begged for mercy, "Immortal Master, spare our lives!" "Immortal Master, please let us go!"

Why are you chasing this child?

“Um, Immortal Master, he’s a newly purchased slave.” The burly man leading the group moved to the front. “This slave was disobedient and secretly ran away. We’re just taking him back.”

"slave?"

"Yes, yes, Immortal Master, look, can we give him back to him..."

"How much?"

"Huh?" The burly man in the lead was somewhat puzzled.

"I asked, 'How much?' and bought it."

"Twenty taels of silver," the burly man in the lead blurted out instinctively.

With a "whoosh," a bead landed in the big man's arms.

The burly man looked down and his eyes widened in astonishment. It was a spirit pearl.

Is that enough?

"That's enough, that's enough, that's enough!" The big man grinned from ear to ear.

Give me his indenture.

The burly man immediately snatched the indenture from his companion and handed it to Shu Lan. Then he scurried away in a flurry.

Only then did Shu Lan go to check on the child's condition.

The child was staring blankly at him.

Qin An originally thought he was doomed and would definitely be captured and taken back to continue living that life worse than death.

He ran and ran desperately until he tripped and fell, at which point his heart sank into despair.

Just then, he thought he heard someone shouting "Stop!" But how could that be?

Suddenly, a figure in white flew down from the sky to his side.

He cautiously looked up and saw the figure in white standing protectively beside him. A ray of rising sunlight shone on his handsome, godlike profile. He radiated a divine glow. Was he an immortal?

The immortal was talking to them and giving them something, and then the group of people all left.

Now, the immortal walked up to him.

"What is your name?" he heard the immortal ask him.

"Immortal..." Qin An's expression was somewhat dazed.

"Hmm?" Shu Lan was a little surprised. She was just asking for a name, and this kid was spacing out. Shu Lan found it somewhat amusing.

"What's your name?" Shu Lan asked again.

Only then did Qin An realize that the immortal was asking him a question!

"I... my name is Qin An." Qin An was very apprehensive, afraid that he might say something wrong and offend the immortal.

"Oh, his name is Qin An. That's a good name. Peace and safety, very nice!" It's surprising that he shares the same surname as the villain Qin Mozhi.

"Is that so?" Qin An felt a little flustered when he heard someone praise his name, and he tugged at the hem of his clothes with his little hands.

"Yes." Shu Lan bent down and reached out to pat Qin An's head.

"Immortal, I... I'm very dirty." Qin An was stunned; the immortal had actually touched his head!

"I don't care." Shu Lan switched hands and pinched his cheek. "You're so cute, how about being my little brother?"

"Younger brother..." Qin An was somewhat dazed. A relative? He wanted him so badly.

"But...but I'm a slave!"

"You mean this contract of indenture?" Shu Lan took out the contract and waved it in front of Qin An. Qin An nodded.

The next moment, something unexpected happened. The contract of servitude suddenly burst into blue flames and quickly turned to ashes.

"Immortal, you must be an immortal." Qin An was completely stunned by this miraculous scene.

"I'm not an immortal. I'm just a cultivator. This is just a very common little trick." Shu Lan patted the ashes off her hands. "From now on, you are free."

"I...I'm free?" Qin An was a little stunned.

"Yes, you're free." Shu Lan flicked Qin An's forehead with her finger. "So? Would you like to be my younger brother?"

"I'm willing..." Qin An murmured blankly, touching his forehead which had been flicked red.

The next moment, Qin An suddenly felt that his position had risen.

It turned out that Shu Lan had already picked Qin An up in her arms.

"Immortal, I... I'm dirty!" Qin An was very embarrassed.

"It's nothing. Why are you calling yourself an immortal? How old are you?"

"I am eight years old."

"Perfect match, I'm four years older than you. From now on, call me brother."

"Brother, brother!"

"Sigh!" Hearing Qin An call her "brother," Shu Lan felt secretly pleased. She had always been an only child on this continent, and now that she had a younger brother, she was naturally very happy.

"Brother has other matters to attend to, so I'll take you with me now." With that, Shu Lan carried Qin An and flew away on her sword.
