Transmigrator Ning Yu relies on his special abilities and a system to survive on Earth after a nuclear war. He meets the older, alluring Mu Xue and confronts hypocritical ability organizations, ult...
The cheers gradually subsided, and the afterglow of the setting sun shone on the devastated battlefield, illuminating the weary yet hopeful faces of the crowd.
"We won..." someone murmured to themselves, as if to confirm this hard-won victory.
However, the heaviness in Ning Yu's heart lingered. He looked around and saw that the once familiar city had been reduced to ruins. The broken walls and rubble told of the ferocity of the battle, and the air was filled with dust and the smell of burning, making it suffocating.
“Yes, we won…” Mu Xue’s voice sounded beside him, but it carried a hint of bitterness, “But how are we going to rebuild our homes?”
Ning Yu turned to look at Mu Xue, only to see her brows furrowed, her gaze sweeping over the surrounding ruins, her eyes filled with worry. He understood her concerns; although they had won the battle, the price they had paid was enormous.
"Let's see what usable supplies we can find first," Ning Yu said to the others, taking a deep breath to calm his heavy heart.
The team members scattered and began searching through the ruins. They carefully turned over the rubble, hoping to find some usable tools, food, and water. However, the Overlord's frenzied attack before its death had almost destroyed everything; most of the facilities and supplies were severely damaged, and very little could be found.
"Damn it!" A team member kicked aside a piece of rubble blocking their path, exclaiming in frustration, "At this rate, even if we don't die at the hands of the Overlord, we'll starve to death!"
"Don't be discouraged, let's look carefully again," another team member comforted him, but he himself knew that the hope was slim.
Seeing the dejected expressions on his teammates' faces, Ning Yu felt his heart grow heavier. He clenched his fists, a strong sense of powerlessness welling up inside him. He knew that they had to find a way to rebuild their homes as soon as possible, otherwise they would face even more severe challenges.
“Perhaps…” A resolute glint flashed in Ning Yu’s eyes as he looked up at the sky, where the sun was about to set and night was about to fall. “There’s another way…” “Perhaps, we can try this.” Ning Yu said, raising his hand, a familiar blue light emanating from his palm. He tried using his supernatural ability to manipulate the steel and concrete in the ruins, sorting and piling them up. Under his control, the massive steel debris was easily lifted and lowered like building blocks, and a semblance of order appeared in the originally chaotic ruins.
"Captain, your superpower is so convenient!" The team members' eyes lit up with hope when they saw this.
However, Ning Yu's face gradually turned pale. The aftereffects of overusing his superpowers began to take effect; every time he mobilized his energy, his brain felt like it was being pricked with needles, and his vision would go black in waves.
"Ning Yu, how are you?" Mu Xue noticed Ning Yu's unusual behavior and asked with concern.
"It's nothing, just a minor problem." Ning Yu gritted his teeth and persevered, fine beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He didn't want everyone to worry, and he didn't want to give up any hope of rebuilding their home.
"Don't force yourself, you look terrible." Mu Xue pressed his hand down, stopping him from using his powers. "Let's all work together to find a solution, there will always be one."
Left with no other choice, Ning Yu had to temporarily halt the operation. Mu Xue organized her team to clear the rubble and move bricks using the most primitive methods. Although everyone's strength had not fully recovered, they gritted their teeth and persevered in order to rebuild their homes. However, manpower was ultimately limited, and the rubble clearing work progressed very slowly.
"At this rate, when will this ever be finished...?"
"Yes, we don't even have a place to sleep..."
Exhaustion, hunger, and cold—a host of negative emotions began to creep into the team members' hearts. Looking at the seemingly endless ruins before them, the rekindled flame of hope felt as if it had been extinguished by a bucket of cold water.
"Mu Xue, do you think we can really rebuild our homes?" a team member couldn't help but ask, his voice filled with confusion and despair.
Mu Xue looked around. In the ruins, one could vaguely see the former prosperity, but now only broken walls remained, as if silently mocking their powerlessness.
"Yes," Mu Xue's voice, though weary, remained firm. "We have already defeated our strongest enemy, what else can stop us?"
As she spoke, she lifted a heavy stone slab and moved it with difficulty. Suddenly, her foot slipped, and she fell into a cave hidden beneath the ruins.
"Mu Xue!" Upon seeing this, Ning Yu's heart tightened, and he rushed over immediately.
The cave was deep and pitch black, with only a faint light shining in from the entrance. By the dim light, Ning Yu could vaguely see something writhing deep within the cave, accompanied by chilling growls…
"Something's there!" Mu Xue's hushed voice, tinged with fear, echoed from deep within the cave. Ning Yu's heart tightened; he gripped his weapon tightly and cautiously ventured deeper into the cave.
By the dim light, he could make out the scene inside the cave. Several lizard-like creatures covered in black scales were huddled in a corner, emitting low growls. Their eyes gleamed with an eerie green light in the darkness, staring intently at Ning Yu and Mu Xue.
"These are the Overlord's experimental subjects!" Ning Yu recognized these creatures at a glance. They had been controlled by the Overlord and used to attack humans. Although the Overlord had been destroyed, these experimental subjects seemed to still retain their aggression, showing hostility towards any creature that approached them.
Suddenly, one of the test subjects launched an attack, darting out like an arrow, its sharp claws aimed straight at Ning Yu's face. Ning Yu was prepared, dodging the attack to the side, his weapon transforming into a streak of silver light, slashing fiercely at the test subject.
However, the experimental subject's scales were exceptionally hard, and Ning Yu's attack only left a shallow wound. The injured experimental subject roared even more furiously, alarming more experimental subjects who darted out from the corners and attacked Ning Yu and Mu Xue.
