Transmigrator Ning Yu relies on his special abilities and a system to survive on Earth after a nuclear war. He meets the older, alluring Mu Xue and confronts hypocritical ability organizations, ult...
Ning Yu turned around abruptly and saw that the strange bird had given up chasing Mu Xue at some point and was now walking towards him. Its huge claws left deep marks on the ground, and each step seemed to slam into Ning Yu's heart, making him feel a suffocating pressure.
"Damn it, how did it find me?" Ning Yu cursed under his breath and quickly retreated, but a sharp pain shot through his leg, causing him to stumble and almost fall.
"Over here!" Mu Xue appeared just in time, grabbed Ning Yu, and pulled him behind a huge rock. The rock was large enough to conceal their figures.
"Are you alright?" Mu Xue asked anxiously, her heart filled with worry as she looked at Ning Yu's pale face.
Ning Yu shook his head, indicating that he was fine, but his furrowed brows and the cold sweat on his forehead betrayed his true condition. He endured the pain and looked around, trying to find something that could help them get out of their predicament.
"Look!" Mu Xue suddenly pointed to a pile of vines and branches next to the boulder, her eyes lighting up.
Ning Yu followed her gaze and immediately understood what she meant. Although they didn't have weapons to confront the strange bird head-on, they could use the surrounding environment to create traps.
"Great idea!" Ning Yu looked at Mu Xue approvingly, his eyes gleaming with hope.
They carefully began setting the trap. Ning Yu was in charge of tying vines to tree branches to make a simple lasso, while Mu Xue was responsible for hiding the trap in the grass so that the strange bird wouldn't easily find it.
However, Ning Yu's movements were very slow due to his previous injury, which made his already anxious mood even more irritable.
"Hurry up, it's coming!" Mu Xue urged in a low voice as she watched the strange bird approaching from afar.
Ning Yu gritted his teeth and quickened his pace. Finally, the trap was set. They scattered some gravel and soil around it to try and make it blend in with the surrounding environment.
"Phew..." Ning Yu let out a long breath, and together with Mu Xue hid behind the boulder, holding their breath and waiting for the strange bird to arrive.
Time ticked by, and the strange bird drew ever closer. It didn't charge directly, but circled around them, its sharp eyes scanning the surroundings like a hawk's, seemingly searching for their trail…
The strange bird cast a massive shadow over the land. It circled several times in the air, its sharp eyes scanning the surroundings like a hawk's, but it still couldn't find any trace of Ning Yu and Mu Xue. Undeterred, it swooped down every now and then, stretching its neck to try and see what was behind the large rock.
Each dive felt like a hammer blow to Ning Yu and Mu Xue's hearts. They clung tightly to the cold stone, barely daring to breathe, lest they be discovered by the strange bird. Ning Yu clenched his fists, his palms sweating, feeling his heart pounding faster and faster, almost bursting out of his chest.
"Hush—" Mu Xue suddenly let out a soft gasp, and Ning Yu's heart sank. He knew that something terrible had happened.
It turned out that Mu Xue was so nervous while setting the trap that she accidentally bumped into a nearby rock, which rolled down and made a slight sound. Although the sound was very quiet, it seemed particularly abrupt in the silent environment.
The strange bird immediately became alert. It let out a sharp cry, flapped its wings violently, and flew towards the direction from which the sound came. It was extremely fast, and in the blink of an eye, it was above the boulder, its huge shadow completely enveloping Ning Yu and Mu Xue.
"Get hidden!" Ning Yu roared, tightly shielding Mu Xue beneath him. He knew that in their current state, they were no match for the strange bird; their only hope was to avoid being discovered.
Mu Xue also realized the danger. She gripped Ning Yu's clothes tightly, buried her head in his chest, and dared not make a sound.
The strange bird circled above the boulder a few times, its sharp eyes scanning every corner, trying to find the source of the sound. It even stretched out its claws and scratched at the boulder, making a piercing sound.
Ning Yu and Mu Xue pressed themselves tightly against the ground, barely daring to breathe. They could clearly hear the strange bird's heartbeat and feel its hot breath. The shadow of death loomed over them, filling them with immense fear and despair.
Suddenly, the strange bird stopped moving. It seemed to have lost patience, let out a reluctant cry, and then...
...The strange bird suddenly spread its wings, pushed off with its legs, and flew away directly over the boulder.
Ning Yu and Mu Xue held their breath, not daring to make a sound, until the strange bird flew away and the huge shadow disappeared, only then did they dare to relax slightly. Mu Xue lifted her head from Ning Yu's arms, and the two looked at each other, both seeing a trace of relief at surviving a disaster in each other's eyes.
"Phew...that was close, we almost got discovered." Mu Xue patted her chest, still shaken.
Ning Yu also breathed a sigh of relief. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and said in a deep voice, "This strange bird is more cunning than we imagined. We need to hurry."
They dared not delay any longer and quickly continued setting up the trap. Ning Yu was in charge of digging the pit, while Mu Xue was responsible for weaving the surrounding vines and branches into a net to cover the trap. The two worked together seamlessly, and in no time, a simple yet deadly trap was set up.
The trap was located on the path the strange bird frequently traveled. To attract its attention, Mu Xue deliberately placed some small stones around the trap. After doing this, Mu Xue and Ning Yu quickly hid in the nearby bushes, quietly waiting for their prey to arrive.
Time ticked by, the sun gradually set, and the light in the forest dimmed. Ning Yu and Mu Xue's hearts pounded faster and faster; they knew the moment that would decide the outcome was approaching.
