Transmigrator Ning Yu relies on his special abilities and a system to survive on Earth after a nuclear war. He meets the older, alluring Mu Xue and confronts hypocritical ability organizations, ult...
A biting wind, carrying dust, stung Ning Yu's cheeks. He gripped Mu Xue's hand tightly, fleeing desperately towards the nearby cave. Behind them, the wolf pack roared and surged like a gray tide, relentlessly pursuing them. The massive black shadow on the distant horizon grew clearer, its oppressive force like a mountain, suffocating them.
"Faster! Faster!" Ning Yu roared, increasing his speed once again.
Mu Xue's breathing became rapid, and her face turned pale, but she didn't complain. She just gritted her teeth and tried her best to keep up with Ning Yu's pace. She knew that in this world full of dangers, the slightest hesitation could lead to utter destruction.
Suddenly, Mu Xue tripped and fell forward. Ning Yu's heart tightened, and he stopped abruptly, helping her up.
"Are you alright?" he asked anxiously.
"It's nothing, I just twisted it." Mu Xue shook her head, enduring the pain in her ankle, and tried to stand up.
However, at that moment, the wolf pack closed in to within ten meters. Their eyes gleamed with a ferocious green light, and saliva dripped from their fangs, as if they were about to tear them to shreds at any moment.
In the distance, the enormous black shadow drew ever closer, emitting a deafening roar that caused the ground to tremble slightly.
Ning Yu's heart sank. Caught in a pincer movement, they seemed to be in dire straits.
He supported Mu Xue, looking around for any glimmer of hope for escape. The cave was right in front of them, yet it seemed so far away.
The figure of "Shadow" had disappeared ahead, whether deliberately abandoning them or drawing away a greater threat was unknown. But in any case, they could only rely on themselves now.
Ning Yu took a deep breath and shielded Mu Xue behind him. He knew this was not the time to despair; he had to stay calm and find a glimmer of hope.
His gaze fell on some scattered stones on the ground... "Xue, hold on tight to me!" Ning Yu said, his tone resolute.
Ning Yu picked up a few stones from the ground and threw them forcefully at the wolf pack. The stones sliced through the air, whistling as they struck the first few wolves. Caught off guard, the wolves were scattered, and several howls rang out, temporarily halting their advance.
"Quick!" Ning Yu grabbed Mu Xue's hand again and ran towards the cave.
They dared not turn back. The howling of wolves behind them grew closer, and the oppressive aura of the massive black shadow in the distance intensified, as if death itself was chasing them. Mu Xue's ankle throbbed with pain, each step feeling like walking on a knife's edge, but she bit her lip, refusing to utter a sound, and simply followed Ning Yu's every step.
Finally, they stumbled and ran into the cave.
The entrance to the cave was narrow, allowing only one person to pass at a time. Once inside, the space opened up dramatically. The cave was pitch black, so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. The air was filled with the damp smell of earth, mixed with the odor of some unknown animal.
Ning Yu pulled a small flashlight from his waist, turned it on, and a faint beam of light illuminated a small part of the cave. The cave was deeper than they had imagined, winding and twisting, its destination unknown.
“Here…” Mu Xue’s voice trembled slightly; the dark environment made her uneasy.
“I know.” Ning Yu gripped her hand tightly, the flashlight beam sweeping across the cave wall, which was covered with strangely shaped rocks that cast eerie shadows under the light.
The cave was eerily quiet, save for their rapid breathing and the faint howls of wolves echoing in the distance. This silence was more unsettling than the wolf pack's roars. No one knew what lurked in the darkness. Perhaps an even more ferocious beast, a deadly trap, or something far more terrifying than the outside world.
Ning Yu turned off the flashlight to conserve power. In the darkness, he felt Mu Xue's body trembling slightly. He knew she was afraid, and he was afraid too. But now, they had no choice but to take a gamble.
“We have to go in.” Ning Yu’s voice was low and firm. “It’s more dangerous outside.”
Mu Xue didn't speak, but held his hand tightly, her palms icy cold.
Ning Yu took a deep breath and turned on the flashlight again. The faint light flickered in the darkness, illuminating the path ahead. They walked cautiously deeper into the cave, each step as if they were walking on the edge of a cliff.
Suddenly, Ning Yu stopped and shone his flashlight forward, where something seemed to be moving.
"What was that sound?" Mu Xue asked nervously.
Ning Yu didn't answer, but held her breath and listened intently. The sound was very faint, like the breathing of some kind of animal, or perhaps...
"Shh..." Ning Yu put his index finger to his lips, signaling Mu Xue to be quiet. He slowly raised his flashlight, the beam moving gradually until it finally settled on a corner...
"What is that..." Mu Xue's voice trembled, almost inaudible.
Ning Yu squinted, trying to see what it was really like. In the flashlight beam, a pair of scarlet eyes gleamed in the darkness…
Under the flashlight beam, the crimson eyes shone like two burning embers, emitting a chilling glow in the darkness. By the dim light, Ning Yu could make out parts of the creature—grayish-black fur, thick limbs, and exposed sharp fangs. It was enormous, much larger than any of the wolves in the pack outside, and a ferocious aura emanated from it, almost suffocating Ning Yu and Mu Xue.
"It's...it's a bear!" Mu Xue's voice trembled, almost squeezed out from between her teeth.
