Chapter 269 Miasma Bewilders the Mind, Perilous Journey Difficult to Overcome

"What's that smell? It's a bit pungent..." Before Mu Xue could finish speaking, a thick fog appeared ahead and slowly drifted towards them.

The mist had an eerie yellowish-green hue, like putrid pus, and slowly swirled in the air, carrying a nauseatingly sweet smell.

Ning Yu's alarm bells rang loudly. He grabbed Mu Xue and gestured for her to step back.

"Don't go over there, there's something wrong with this fog!" he said in a low voice, his tone grave.

They cautiously moved closer, and the pungent smell grew even stronger, like the odor of some chemical substance evaporating, making it difficult to breathe.

Mu Xue couldn't help but take a small sip, and immediately began to cough violently, clutching her chest and bending over.

"Cough cough cough... It's so choking!"

"Hold your breath!" Ning Yu quickly tore off a piece of clothing, covered his mouth and nose, and then handed another piece to Mu Xue. "Use this to cover your mouth and nose, try not to inhale it!"

Mu Xue took the fabric and covered her mouth and nose, and her coughing gradually subsided.

The thick fog rolled closer and closer, almost completely enveloping them.

Visibility dropped sharply, and everything around became blurry, as if we were in a state of chaos.

"Damn it, what the hell is this?" Mu Xue cursed under her breath, her voice a little hoarse.

“It looks like some kind of poison gas…” Ning Yu squinted, trying hard to see the scene in the fog, but could only see a hazy yellowish-green.

"We need to find a way to get around it."

They cautiously groped their way forward along the edge of the fog, trying to find a path that would allow them to avoid the poisonous mist.

However, the poisonous fog seemed to have its own consciousness, constantly spreading towards them and gradually sealing off their escape route.

"No, this won't do!" Mu Xue's voice was tinged with panic. "The fog is getting thicker and thicker; we'll be trapped here and die!"

Ning Yu also sensed the urgency of the situation. His superpower was severely depleted, and he could no longer create a large-scale energy barrier to resist the poisonous fog.

He clenched his fists, anxiously searching for a solution.

The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only their heavy breathing and the sound of the flowing poisonous fog intertwining, creating a suffocating atmosphere.

Suddenly, a soft cracking sound came from beneath her feet... Mu Xue gasped in surprise, losing her balance abruptly...

Mu Xue gasped in surprise, suddenly losing her balance.

At the critical moment, Ning Yu reacted quickly and reached out to pull her up.

Unexpectedly, a sharp branch was hidden in the poisonous fog, and it slashed his arm hard.

A sharp pain shot through Ning Yu, who groaned and looked down to see a patch of black ink rapidly spreading from the wound, like ink dripping into water and quickly spreading outwards.

"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue cried out in alarm, supporting him. "Are you alright?"

Ning Yu gritted his teeth, "I'm fine..." However, the sharp pain in his arm was hard for him to ignore.

The poisonous fog was more potent than he had imagined; even a mere scratch had caused such severe damage.

"It's all my fault, if it weren't for me..." Mu Xue blamed herself, anxiously looking around, trying to find something to treat her wounds, "Are there any herbs... or clean water..."

However, all that could be seen was yellowish-green poisonous fog and dead trees; there were no herbs or water sources to be found.

This area, shrouded in poisonous fog, is like the domain of death, devouring all life.

"Stop looking," Ning Yu said weakly. "Let's figure out how to get out of here first." He tried to activate his supernatural ability to form a thin energy barrier around his body, hoping to isolate himself from the poisonous fog.

Seeing Ning Yu injured, Mu Xue was extremely anxious, but there was nothing she could do.

She held Ning Yu's hand tightly, feeling his body temperature gradually cooling down, her heart filled with fear and despair.

"There must be a way..." she murmured to herself, unsure whether she was comforting herself or Ning Yu.

Ning Yu took a deep breath, enduring the excruciating pain, and activated his supernatural power in an attempt to dispel the surrounding poisonous fog.

However, the poisonous fog seemed to have a life of its own; as soon as it was dispersed a little, it quickly gathered again, clinging to them like a maggot clinging to their bones.

Ning Yu's superpower was greatly depleted, and his body began to sway, with waves of dizziness appearing before his eyes. He felt a wave of weakness wash over him, and he almost couldn't stand up.

"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue cried out in alarm, reaching out to support his swaying body. "Hold on..."

Ning Yu's lips trembled slightly as he managed to utter a few words with difficulty: "This fog...something's wrong..." He raised his hand, pointing towards the depths of the poisonous fog ahead, his eyes filled with fear... "There..."

Ning Yu's supernatural ability was like a candle flickering in the wind, weakly resisting the thick poisonous fog around him.

He had just dispersed a small area when, in an instant, the yellowish-green mist surged back, as if mocking his futile efforts.

He staggered, nearly falling, his face as pale as paper.

"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue exclaimed and quickly helped him up.

She could feel his body trembling, and his clothes were soaked with cold sweat.

This can't go on. The corrosive effects of the toxic fog are getting worse and worse. If we delay any longer, the consequences will be unimaginable.

Mu Xue's gaze swept over the surrounding dead trees, and a thought suddenly flashed through her mind—fire!

Perhaps we could try burning it.

She immediately sprang into action, gathering dry branches, withered leaves, and even some rotten bark from the surrounding area without hesitation.

"What are you doing?" Ning Yu asked weakly, his voice hoarse and filled with doubt.

"Start a fire!" Mu Xue answered without looking up. She piled up the collected branches and took a lighter out of her backpack with trembling hands.
