Chapter 14 Best Friend

When Jiang Yuping saw her daughter calling her, she looked up at Qiuyue.

"Qiuyue, did Mom wake you up? Breakfast is on the table. You can have breakfast with your younger brother and sister in a bit. Your dad and I will eat and then go to work."

After explaining these things, Jiang Yuping thought of what Wei Hong had told her, about seeing her daughter Qiuyue and Liang Damin's son Liang Guoping holding a romantic oil-paper umbrella in the rain.

However, Jiang Yuping did not ask these questions.

She doesn't have much time now.

Her husband's unusual behavior made her decide to postpone the topic of her daughter dating.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, Qiuyue said again:

"Mom, did you and Dad have a fight last night?"

Jiang Yuping, however, looked at Qiu Yue and asked in return:

"Qiuyue, in all these years, have you ever seen me argue with your father?"

Qiuyue was speechless for a moment after being asked the question.

Yes, at nineteen, she had never seen her parents argue since she could remember.

Seeing that her mother had turned the tables on her, Qiuyue quickly smiled.

"Mom, it's great that you two aren't arguing. You two are a model couple at our Hongqi Factory. The union gives our family a Happy Family Award every year."

Qiuyue stretched her arms out from under the covers.

Pure white and delicate pink, just like lotus roots that have just been dug out of the pond and washed clean.

Jiang Yuping did not respond, but walked to the bedside and put her daughter's arm under the covers.

“Wake your brother up a little longer. He has an exam today, so he doesn’t want to be late again.”

After saying that, without waiting for Qiuyue's response, he turned around and left his daughter's room.

Qiuyue didn't respond. Instead, she rubbed her eyes, picked up the Soviet book "How the Steel Was Tempered" from under the bed, and started reading.

As Jiang Yuping walked out of her daughter's room, she saw her husband already sitting at the dining table eating breakfast, which reassured her somewhat.

and,

Qiu Jingwen also served her a bowl of porridge and placed it on top of the bowl with a pair of chopsticks.

Jiang Yuping sat down to eat and told her son and daughter about the exams they would be taking that day.

Qiu Jingwen suddenly looked up at his wife.

"Yuping, you go to work first. I'm taking Qiushou and Qiuchan to school today."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuping was a little confused again.

She thought to herself, "The school is right next to the dormitory area. When my child was in first grade, I didn't need to take him to school. Now that he's in several grades, why is my husband suggesting that we take him to school?"

She stared blankly at her husband.

“Jingwen, why are you doing this? The school is right next door, just a few steps away. Besides, Qiushou and Qiuchan are together.”

"Yuping, didn't you say they have exams during the autumn harvest? I want to see them off and also ask the teacher about their situation."

The intelligent Jiang Yuping naturally understood that her husband's unusual behavior must be due to something he was hiding in his heart.

As a doctor, she knew that men could also be very vulnerable at times.

"Okay, whatever you say, I'll go with you to take the kids to school today."

Jiang Yuping didn't know what was on her husband's mind, but she really felt something was wrong.

"You go to work, I'm fine."

As Qiu Jingwen spoke, he picked up the bowl and gulped down half a bowl of porridge in a few mouthfuls, then put down his chopsticks, making quite a noise.

This is clearly a state of dissatisfaction.

He didn't want his wife to come with him to take the children to school.

In fact, Qiu Jingwen had his own concerns.

He was worried that Liu Han, that old spy, would appear around the dormitory area, and might even follow Qiu Shou and Qiu Chan.

He also believed that since Rattlesnake Liu had appeared, he would not let the matter rest so easily and would definitely keep an eye on him, saying that he would assign him some kind of crazy task.

More than twenty years have passed. Unlike the war years, it's no longer as mysterious, and there's no need for special codes for rendezvous. However, Qiu Jingwen has already been targeted by Liu Han. Just as Liu Han said in the rainstorm yesterday, he can't escape Liu Han's grasp, not to mention that his whole family is under Liu Han's control.

Jiang Yuping could naturally see through her husband's actions.

"Okay, okay, you take me, I'm going to work."

Jiang Yuping naturally understood that at this time, she should not argue with her husband, let alone escalate the relationship between them.

Time passed second by second, and soon it was 8:40.

Just as Jiang Yuping was about to clear away the dishes, Qiu Jingwen said to her:

"Yuping, you go to work. I'll wash the dishes today."

Jiang Yuping hummed in agreement and went to the bedroom to change her clothes.

The children were still asleep in bed. Just as Jiang Yuping was about to leave, Qiu Jingwen stepped forward and hugged his wife from behind.

He held his wife tightly, then let go.

"Yuping, it rained yesterday, so don't ride your bike too fast and be careful along the way."

Jiang Yuping was filled with gratitude, but she also felt that her husband was behaving very strangely.

"Yes, I know. You delivered the autumn cicadas to the school, weren't you going back to the workshop?"

"Yes, I definitely have to go back to the workshop. Where else can I go?"

Jiang Yuping didn't ask any more questions and went downstairs.

As she rode her bicycle out of the dormitory area gate, Wei Hong called out to her from behind.

Jiang Yuping naturally recognized the voice as that of her best friend Wei Hong, so she put her feet on the ground and turned around to wait for Wei Hong.

In the 1970s, bicycles were still a luxury in rural areas, but for the cadres and workers of Hongqi Factory, a military industrial enterprise directly under the Ministry of Ordnance, they were a very common means of transportation.

Almost every office worker, except for young people who have just been recruited to the factory and older employees, owns a bicycle.
