Welcome to hardcore puzzle-solving featuring a tough man going underground (literally). A first-person ...
Sentry booth (6)
How much is 5 grams of soil? It is only about the weight of a coin, and if it is converted into salt, it can fill a beer cap. So if you look up without any warning, even gods can't stop you.
It's quite interesting to say, this playful trick I came up with on the spur of the moment directly led to two things.
First, the team stopped.
This team seemed to be obedient to me all the way, but from the beginning to the end, they were dragging me to death. At this moment, they completely stopped in fear, and I stopped them for the first time.
I'm still alive and kicking, but no one can guarantee that if they take me to the pit camp, I'll get into trouble on the way. You know, none of the guys who got caught before were so fierce that they just ate it.
They didn't dare go forward.
Secondly, the middle-aged man whose call I forcibly hung up was so angry that he finally successfully called back and asked the team leader to run to us carrying the machine.
When the communication line suddenly lit up, the person on the other end had a gloomy expression and a circle of people stood around him.
This guy is even more of a feudal remnant than Xu You. He was just saying that he wanted to see how magnanimous and capable the young people are. Is a mere consultant who came from nowhere going to act like he was forced to death by his elders?
My throat moved and I raised the empty bottom of the medicine bottle to show Xu You and the person behind the communication screen.
There was a leap of the bonfire, and everyone's face turned pale and they began to sweat.
"I really can't stand being wronged." I said a little embarrassedly, "Is there anything else you want to teach me?"
"What are you doing!" Someone's voice suddenly broke and shouted.
I said calmly: "Why are you so excited? I thought that so many people with gloomy faces must be scolding the "advisor". It turns out they know it's me."
I sat down and asked Xu You to stand aside so as not to block the affectionate eye contact between me and everyone on the screen.
The veins on Xu You's forehead were tense one by one, and his cheeks were shaking. "You...why?"
On the other side of the screen, all the people who were originally sitting had stood up in dismay, their faces turning into those of panic as if they were in a situation that had gotten out of control.
"It's like this, let me explain." I said patiently to the screen, "I've used up most of my tricks these past two days. Since everyone is still kind of pampering me, I suddenly wondered if I could be a little rude and threaten everyone."
"——Why would you really eat it! What if the soil is really the medium of contamination?"
"It's a threat if you really do it, but it's just coquetry if you don't do it and just say it."
I put the empty medicine bottles back into the container and seeing their reactions, I knew that my guess was not too far off.
I should be a key card now. According to the plan, I will be used in important places after everything is arranged.
But I don’t care, I just want to explode in advance.
No matter how these people pretend to be stupid and ignorant, or how they play the good cop and the bad cop, or what tricks they come up with to manipulate my mentality and make me obey them.
Recently, we have been getting along very well. According to the unspoken rules of the game of social etiquette, I shouldn't have turned the table over and made trouble, which would have harmed others and benefited myself.
But I am the ancestor, and we second-generation dogs are unreasonable and capricious. Just get used to it.
As I said that, I asked the team leader for a cup of hot water, and then I put my arm around Xu You's shoulders to comfort him: "It's okay, this old man's last name isn't Zhang anyway. If you provoke him, just provoke him, and he won't dare to really turn against you."
Xu You stared at my arm and asked, "Are you sure his last name is not Zhang?"
Nonsense. To be able to put on a bad face in front of Xu You, that person must have some status. But judging from his behavior today, he only dared to play dumb and make trouble for the "advisor". Most likely, he can't afford to offend the Zhang family.
He has a high status and has the channels to know that I am a "young master", but he didn't recognize that I was a fake. I think this time the Zhang family seems to have joined forces with several families to work together, and he should be the leader of one of them.
"So, what should I call this old man?"
Xu You: "…surname Yan, owner of the second branch of the Yan family."
He is a nine thousand year old man, so I said okay, and asked Manager Yan Er to go back and reflect on his mistakes, and think about how to give an explanation to our Zhang family for forcing me to do such a big thing.
"How could such an elder have such a bad temper?" I said sincerely and confusedly.
This time the communication was cut off particularly abruptly, and they almost fled in panic.
This scene was so funny that I couldn't help myself and almost choked. I quickly picked up the hot water cup, spit out the chewing gum in my mouth, and started to rinse my mouth vigorously.
Around the campfire, everyone's faces changed instantly, as if they had seen a ghost, and they laughed so hard that I shivered.
I didn't swallow the dirt in the pit. It's not like I'm really crazy.
I chewed half a stick of gum while walking around the room, and the gum that was covered with dirt was pressed under the root of my tongue.
I seem to have mentioned before that I have a younger sister. My sister has been weak and sickly since she was young, and when she was young, I often played tricks on her to trick her into taking medicine. I said I would take the bitter medicine with her, and I would put two small, inedible pieces of silver in my hand and pass them around in my mouth.
I suddenly decided to use this trick again tonight, and luckily I haven't gotten used to it yet. I thought to myself that they were a bunch of bastards and desperados, none of them were good people.
Of course, facing the team that I had finally fooled, I can't honestly say that I was so obsessed with solving the problem that I had an obsessive-compulsive disorder and was dazed. Later, all these were just temporary excuses.
I started making up a story, saying that I pretended to eat dirt, and my original plan was to trick Xu You in the battle royale.
I guess today was a bit scary because of all the ups and downs. The team leader asked me blankly, "What do you mean?"
I immediately abandoned Xu You and turned to hug the team leader affectionately: "Look, if Xu You thinks I've been tricked, where will the tricked person run after losing control?"
"To, to the direction of the pit camp?"
"Yes. And a person who has lost his mind will definitely go in a straight line regardless of everything, and will do whatever is most efficient, even jumping off a cliff. By then, your team leader will use his rich experience and rush to chase the most efficient route without looking back. I will just find a random place to stay. It will take him a day or two to come to his senses, right?"
The team leader's eyes were wide open, as if he believed it, and he showed me great respect.
I was very professional and quickly composed a set of words, asking him to imagine that I had just eaten dirt and was using words to mislead Xu You. I sneered in a very exaggerated tone:
"This pit thing is so far away, do you think it still has any influence? According to the rules of the game, since I was given three days to escape, can it take me out if I leave it to it? Do you know this place better than it does?"
After that, there was silence all around.
I was laughing when my heart skipped a beat. I thought, damn, are you kidding? Why are you so serious and scared? Even if you are worried, you are all experienced people. You won't believe this, right?
They really believe it.
The team stopped for five whole days. Every day, seven or eight people stood blocking my door with their eyes wide open, fearing that I would fall into the trap and lose control.
In the grocery store, all chewing gum, ice cubes, syrup, maltose, Band-Aids... anything that could be used to make a living was confiscated and paid for at market price.
On the morning of the sixth day, news came from the pit camp that Wildcat Gao Liu had dug a long and narrow tunnel about two miles underground in the pit. Now that the tunnel was completed, they could prepare for action.
After noticing that I was indeed fine, the convoy asked me about my situation and finally set off again, this time without stopping to rest during the journey.
I was bored sitting in my room playing with my cat, watching the large leaves flying by outside the carriage. On a whim, I reluctantly opened two bags of very expensive chocolate balls from the store and stuffed them into my mouth.
During this time, Xu You came to bring me food and report to me on the progress of the team. When he saw me, he was stunned for a moment and his face changed a little.
"What?" I asked. I was laughing at first, but then I froze for a moment and found myself sweating all over my head and back. If I hadn't been eating chocolate subconsciously, I might have fainted.
Strangely, I realized it so late that I seemed to be very scared.
But everything has passed, and nothing happened in these six days. What am I afraid of?
First of all, it’s definitely not the obedient guys in the team, nor the old man from the Yan family who I gave a hard time to in the camp.
I'm not the type of person who likes to be hostile and resentful when dealing with people. In fact, despite the chaos, I can say that I get along pretty well with most people.
But it's not a trap. The mystery there brings me more curiosity and restraint about the new world. If there were no huge hidden dangers in my identity, this kind of adventure would actually be very attractive to me.
Then what else?
"Swish..." Outside the room, the morning breeze blew, and the leaves of the dense forest swayed gently.
"It's okay. I guess he's just a stay-at-home kid with a weak body." I subconsciously avoided thinking further and joked, holding the breakfast and asking Xu You to go out and close the door.
Then I did something that I didn’t understand.
I also lowered the electric roller shutter door on the outside that I had forgotten for a long time. I sat on the bed alone, staring blankly at the thick iron sheet outside the glass shop door.
The grocery store with only one person was unexpectedly quiet, and I could hear my own unusually rapid breathing.
My mind began to rewind memories uncontrollably.
I seemed to be back to that night again, standing alone under the streetlight, unable to move, facing the dark flowerbed. Resisting and rejecting the extreme fear of the unknown, I could only stare into it, knowing that I could never turn back.
For no reason, I suddenly realized that the photo Xu You showed me that day was fake.
It wasn't some deformed human figure with bloody, peeling skin. I had clearly looked at it and noticed it that day. It must have been something else.
What did I do and what did I go through at that time? Why did my brain only forget that brief fragment?
There was a kind of uneasiness like a leech attached to my bones, which made me subconsciously resist, vent, test, and avoid along the way. I also instinctively screened and approached everyone I could get close to and fight for. It was not until this moment that I suddenly realized it.
What on earth was that day?
Maybe the team was right to be in such a hurry, a voice in my head said.
We were on the road too long. Long enough for something to catch up.
“Pah.”
"Don't think about it."
A strange voice said, very close, right next to my ear.
My heart sank suddenly and I hugged the cat tightly. It had been silent for some time.
The sound came from the wall behind my bed. The wall was covered with scratches from the cat every day, and I was leaning against it.
