Chapter 117 Female Knight

After successfully developing the "bacterial fuel," Todd immediately sought out Brother Joe and Old Aiden. He omitted the experimental aspects of the supernatural research, only providing a simple explanation of the combustion principle, hoping they could design a "biothermal kiln" suitable for metallurgy and calcination.

Todd drew a very simple design sketch, the principle of which was somewhat similar to the "biogas digester" in his previous life. Finally, he emphasized the flammable and explosive nature of this gas and told the two of them to be careful.

While Todd was busy climbing the microbial technology tree, several major events occurred in Taylor, the capital of the distant Papal States.

The first thing was the ecumenical council of the Father Church.

The ecumenical council (also known as the universal council, the universal council, or the general council) is a diocese-wide bishops' council with universal representation in the Church of God the Father. It mainly consults and votes on important ecclesiastical affairs and doctrinal disputes.

The most famous ecumenical council in history was the Great Schism of 1054, when the Eastern and Western churches split. Since then, the Orthodox Church (i.e., the Eastern Tyretic Church) has not recognized the "ecumenical councils" convened unilaterally by the Church of God the Father.

The ecumenical council must be convened by the Pope; he also has the power to preside over the council (either personally or by appointing a representative), decide on the matters to be discussed, the procedures to be followed during the council, the location of the council, and to adjourn and dissolve the council.

The decisions of the council must also be approved and announced by the Pope. Cardinals, archbishops, bishops, and rectors of seminaries have the right to attend and vote, and theologians or jurists invited to attend can cast advisory votes.

The council was chaired by Pope Alexander III. In addition to discussions on ecclesiastical and doctrinal matters, the council decided and announced three major resolutions.

First, regarding the military dispute between the city of St. Victory and the city of Silver Ring within the diocese, the Church will send a mission to mediate, hoping that both sides will immediately cease hostilities and return to the negotiating table.

Second, the growing power of the southern pagans directly threatened the safety of the diocese and the holy city, and the Church warned the kingdoms within the diocese to guard against possible attacks.

Third, considering the increasingly close ties between the pirates of the northern islands and the northern barbarian tribes, the Church plans to establish a fourth knightly order in addition to the existing three Papal Knightly Orders. The full name of the order is "The Order of the Monks of Twilight Harbor Blessed by the Father," which will be mainly responsible for guarding the western coast of the diocese.

Regarding the third resolution, Pope Alexander III spent five minutes introducing the Grand Master of the Knights, Todd Fischer.

In the introduction, he describes Todd as a knowledgeable and devout monk who joined the Church under the call of the Father. He was a skilled warrior with a large army under his command, and once personally led the Church's army to defeat pirates many times his size; he also discovered the artifact-making techniques of the ancient Tyro Empire in the northern islands and donated them to the Church free of charge.

Finally, Alexander III publicly read out the Holy Decree establishing the Order of the Moshe and announced that it would be distributed to all branches within the diocese.

As for the investiture ceremony of the Knights of Twilight, due to the unclear situation in the north and the escalation of border conflicts, the Pope ultimately decided to send a delegation to Twilight Town to conduct it on his behalf.

The second major event in the Papal States capital began on the morning of the third day after the conclusion of the Ecumenical Council.

The Royal College of Taylor, October 22, 1170, at 9:30 a.m.

"Professor Terence! The people from the First Inquisition have arrived!"

A young man with brown hair, covered in sweat, rushed into the classroom and shouted at the old man with a white beard that reached his chest on the podium in front of all the students.

The old man stood there for a moment, then slowly put down his book and asked in a deep voice, "Where did they go?"

"They just arrested Professor Adriano and his students at the planetarium! Now those people are coming this way!"

Terence said to the brown-haired youth, "Ulysses, take the students to my room immediately. All my manuscripts are under the bed. Oh, and that microscope too! Take them all! Find the person I mentioned to you; he knows what to do!"

The young man said anxiously, "Teacher, please come with us!"

The old man shook his head: "I can't leave. You should understand that the person they're really looking for is me. Only if I'm here will you have a chance to escape."

Hearing the rapid footsteps coming from downstairs, Terence's eyes widened and he puffed out his beard: "Ulysses, what are you standing there for?! Get moving!"

The sound of soft sobbing came from the crowd. The students took one last look at their teacher and then left the classroom.

Half a minute later, looking at the red cross on the clothes of the intruders at the door, Terence straightened his clothes and said in a mocking tone, "What is it that makes you so hasty? Is it fear of the truth?!"

On October 22, 1170 in the Christian calendar, an event later known as the "Catastrophe of Truth" occurred. The First Inquisition of Terro suddenly stormed into the Royal Academy of Terro, arresting renowned scholars from the continent, including the physics master Terence, the astronomy master Adriano, and the mathematics master Morego, as well as their 259 students.

In response to this incident, the Tayron royal family lodged numerous protests with the church over the next six months, and dozens of secular nobles, led by the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of the Seal, began to actively mediate.

The last thing seems rather insignificant compared to the previous two.

A week after the "Catastrophe of Truth," the Papal States' Secular Court received a seemingly mundane case—two young nobles got into a fight over a woman, one suffering a broken eye socket and the other a swollen chin.
