Chapter 155 Proposals for the Reformation

The farce of "courtship" in Muxi Town took a full week to slowly come to an end.

People slowly regained their senses from the frenzy. Some were embarrassed by their strange words and actions during this period; some gave up their pursuit but claimed to the outside world that the past few days had been a "wonderful" experience; and some men and women were still blocking the door of the arbitration tribunal, just to see Dion one more time.

When Todd successfully captured Northstone Fortress and returned to Twilight Town, the first urgent document on his desk was a recommendation for the handling and punishment of Knight Dion.

He behaved dissolutely in public, wantonly slandered the Church and the Son of God; he instigated duels without authorization, disturbing public order; he caused disturbances among residents, and destroyed sacred marriages.

Looking at this long list of charges, Todd felt a headache coming on. He recalled Tristan's unnatural expression when introducing the knight Dion, which made him feel that something was wrong.

Todd spent ten minutes carefully reviewing the duel, then turned to Alfonso and asked, "Where are the parties involved?"

"To avoid disrupting the normal work of the arbitration tribunal, Knight Dion has voluntarily applied for suspension and handed over his duties to others. By the way, he wishes to meet with you."

Todd nodded and said, "Temporarily suspend him from his post and prepare for an investigation. As for the meeting, let's wait."

Putting that matter aside for the time being, Todd began to deal with the backlog of other official business.

Regarding the renovation of the church, Queen Mary submitted a highly professional engineering design. This design was completely different from the ancient Roman style of contemporary religious buildings; it was a cathedral that leaned more towards the Gothic style.

Todd specifically sought out Mary and discussed the blueprints with her. This woman, captivated by luxurious and noble sensory experiences, possessed an extraordinary photographic memory and an exceptional artistic sensibility. She blended the characteristics of Northern Highland culture, ancient Terro culture, and the decorations of the Silver Ring royal family, pioneering the Gothic religious architecture.

Todd pointed to the religious patterns on the stained glass in the drawings, frowned, and asked, "Can these be bought in Muxi Town?"

Mary brushed a strand of hair from her forehead, propped herself up on her elbow, and looked at the blueprints, saying, "You're talking about the colored crystals, right? There was a craftsman in town who, while heating iron with a 'fire gas bottle' (methane bottle), accidentally produced a pale red crystal. Later, he tried with silver and copper, producing silver and brown crystals. Although these crystals aren't as clear and transparent as the crystal artifacts sold by the church, they're good enough to be used for church windows."

Todd listened to Mary's explanation and shrugged helplessly. At first, he thought someone had leaked the glass formula, but it seems that with the advancement of technology, glass manufacturing is only a matter of time.

Having approved the construction of the cathedral, Todd turned his attention to the next report.

Southern scholar Kendi, leading his students, monks, and alien assistants, used an electron microscope to examine water, soil, and fossils brought from the North Island ruins. They discovered strange mineral powders in samples from beneath the North Island ruins; these minerals glowed in the dark and could also affect electrical currents in the air.

When Todd saw this, his heart skipped a beat; it sounded a bit like radioactive material.

Fortunately, Kendi was cautious enough about the unknown and simply sealed the mineral powder away without conducting any research.

Todd immediately wrote a warrant ordering the laboratory to cease its research on the mineral powder and to carry out radiation cleanup.

Watching the messenger take the order away, Todd breathed a sigh of relief. While relieved that the radioactive material had not caused a serious accident, he also became increasingly curious about the truth behind the North Island ruins.

After a simple lunch in the Grand Master's office, Todt asked Alfonso to bring Dion over.

Half an hour later, while reviewing the latest financial and population reports of Muxi Town, Todd heard a knock on the door and gestured for the person outside to come in.

Leading Dion, dressed in hunting attire, into the room, Alfonso bowed to Todd, then turned and closed the door, standing in a corner of the room, watching the man warily.

Todd, sensing the tense atmosphere in the room, shook his head helplessly and said to Dion, "I just heard about the Papal States' inquisition of heretics, and I deeply regret this tragedy."

Dion pursed his lips and raised his head: "Lord Todd! Their sacrifice was not meaningless; at least it allowed the world to see the true face of the Church! What I'm truly worried about is you. Are you greedy for the power the Church grants you, or are you willing to stand on the sidelines of truth?!"

Todd glanced at Alfonso, who was staring straight ahead, sighed, and said to Dion with a wry smile, "Don't my actions speak for themselves? If I really chose to stand with the Church, why would I have taken in those students seeking refuge, and why would I have provided shelter for the aliens?"

Dion looked directly into Todd's eyes, who was surprised by the look in Todd's eyes. He had never imagined that such a seemingly "delicate" person could exert such a great deal of pressure on him.

"Lord Todd, have you ever considered that the Church will one day discover the secret of Twilight Town? If these despicable bastards use religious legitimacy and excommunication to force you to expel or even arrest heretics, what will you choose then?!"

Todd was stunned by Dion's words.

This is indeed a problem he has selectively ignored in the past.

The ownership of the territory of Twilight Town, the legal status of the Twilight Knights, and the doctrinal proof of the Holy Son Todd—all of this is based on one foundation: the recognition of the Pope of the Church of the Father.
