Chapter 16 Bad News and Gift

Sure enough, at the smelting site at the foot of the monastery hill, the familiar figures of Huggins and Edgar stood out among the group of craftsmen and apprentices.

Looking at the two dusty, excited men in front of him, Todd sighed from the bottom of his heart: the power of money is truly irresistible to anyone.

The Slavic man sat half-sitting on the ground, his eyes fixed on the furnace from which hot steam was rising. Hearing footsteps behind him, he didn't turn around, but simply took out half a rye bread from his pocket and handed it to the man.

Completely oblivious to the half-eaten bread in his hand, Todd broke off the hard crust with his hands and swallowed it. Finally feeling somewhat full, he wanted to remind the people near the furnace that the silver smelting process involved large amounts of lead vapor, which could cause chronic damage to the human body. Although he had taken this into account when designing the furnace, specifically installing condensation pipes and an underground collection pool, it still had some impact.

But soon, a remark from Huggins left him speechless with astonishment, forgetting what he was about to say.

"I found a craftsman I know in a nearby village and plan to make three more of these smelting furnaces." The man spoke as if it were nothing out of the ordinary. "By the way, I paid the silver ingots smelted these past two days as a deposit."

Is this guy planning to mass-produce it?

But if we do that, it's disrespectful to wrap things in paper, and sooner or later, everything here will be coveted by others.

Todd, who was about to offer some advice, reconsidered. Refining slag wasn't technically difficult, and it was only a matter of time before people found out. Rather than hiding it, he figured he should make a quick buck and then quit.

Edgar, unlike the two men, walked up to the monk and said, "Uncle Hudgens and I have prepared a gift for you."

Gift?

Huggins stood up and dusted himself off: "To be precise, it's a room."
