Chapter 191 A Day in Alfonso's Life

A bard carrying a Morrod lyre saw Alfonso appear, took down his instrument, and began to play and sing: "The ghost of Cordley Farm, the bandits of Maslow Ravine, the villains of Musset Market, our guardsman, great protector, paragon of knights~~"

Two patrolling knights spotted Alfonso in the distance, rushed over to salute, and watched their commander walk away. One of them said to his companion, "I heard that a Silver Ring nobleman who just moved here is eyeing those hills again. Let's gather some brothers and teach those arrogant bastards what respect and obedience really mean!"

After touring around the city of Twilight, Alfonso opted for a simple lunch at a roadside shop.

The shop owner is a veteran who participated in the "Battle of Muxi". He lost his left arm in the battle and was left disabled. He had to receive a "settlement fee" before leaving the army and opening this roadside snack shop.

Alfonso took off his helmet, and the wriggling and contracting of the parasite's limbs did not affect the veteran's attitude in the slightest.

"Lord Alfonso, is it the same as always?"

"Ah, that's right."

The shop owner served a bowl of fish fillet soup, cut a small plate of sausage, and finally served half a loaf of black bread.

Alfonso soaked the black bread in the fish soup until it softened, then wrapped it with sausage and put it in his mouth.

After lunch, despite the veteran's refusal, Alfonso insisted on leaving the money on the table and hurried off to an orphanage in the city.

The orphanage is located in a quiet residential area in the west of the city. From the outside, it is a two-story longhouse with a small open space in front of it.

At two o'clock in the afternoon, the sun was no longer as intense as at noon, but the temperature was the warmest and most pleasant of the day. A dozen or so children were playing and frolicking in the open space. There were boys and girls among them, the oldest being no more than ten years old and the youngest not even two years old.

Alfonso's appearance completely ignited the children's enthusiasm.

Knight, Lord Alfonso, Uncle Commander... all sorts of different titles echoed above the open space.

Alfonso, fully armored, awkwardly greeted the children, carefully controlling the force of the 'Dragon Bone'. After only a few minutes, he was already covered in sweat.

A girl of about sixteen or seventeen years old emerged from the longhouse. Alfonso, seeing her, was overjoyed: "Estelle, come and help me!"

The woman laughed as she coaxed and chased away the chattering, noisy children around Alfonso.

The knight, seemingly exhausted, plopped down on a sand dune in the clearing, panting heavily. He pulled a heavy money bag from his robes and handed it to Esther: "This is the king's reward from last month, plus my salary. Use this money to buy some clothes and toys for the children. Oh, and remember to get the cementman to fix the hole in the east wall..."

Esther interrupted Alfonso: "Sir, you donated all your savings to buy this land and took in us homeless war orphans. We really can't accept any more money from you. In fact, Erik and I mend clothes for others, and the children make silk flowers and tissues, which already helps supplement our household income..."

Without a word, Alfonso shoved the purse into Esther's arms and quickly left the orphanage. The woman was left alone, clutching the heavy purse, staring blankly in the direction he had disappeared.
