An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
The knight Dion, dressed in a white pilgrimage robe, held a rosary with a cross in his hand. He first glanced at the blocked tunnel entrance, then at the dozens of corpses covered with white sheets on the open ground. Upon spotting his friend Ulysses, he strode forward and shouted, "Where is His Majesty? Haven't we found His Majesty yet?!"
Ulysses' clothes were so worn that their original color was no longer visible. He poured the rubble from the wooden basket onto the ground and wiped his dusty face with his sleeve: "The passage in the cave collapsed due to the explosion, and everyone is trying their best to clear the bodies and rocks."
As soon as he finished speaking, a stretcher was carried out from the entrance of the sewer.
Alfonso lay unconscious on the stretcher, his body covered in wounds. His 'dragon bone' was broken into several pieces, and the parasite's limbs dangled from the edge of the stretcher like withered tree branches.
"It's terrible... I heard that the Imperial Guard battalion was almost completely wiped out."
Hearing the whispers around him, Knight Dion pursed his lips and asked Ulysses again, "If the Royal Guard is not here, then who has taken over the search?"
“Master Terence convened the Emerald Society, while Lord Rachel mobilized the Alien Association. We cooperated with those aliens to clean up the scene, move the bodies, and search for His Majesty.”
Dion asked anxiously, "But His Majesty has been missing for over an hour. At this rate, when will we be able to catch up with those kidnappers?!"
Ulysses shook his head: "No one expected that there would be such a wide natural cave in the sewers of Twilight City. Its internal structure is interconnected, like an ancient labyrinth, and no one knows where the paths lead. But fortunately, the people of the Alien Association can use their supernatural abilities to determine the general direction by following the residual scent of the candles on His Majesty's body; while we scholars of the Emerald Society start with hydrology, geology, and magnetic fields to calculate and determine the fastest excavation route."
After hearing these words, Dion did not ask any further questions.
He rolled up his sleeves and trouser legs, revealing his fair arms and calves, and coiled his long, pale golden braid on top of his head. He stepped into the muddy sewers, ignoring the stunned Ulysses, and joined the search team.
This was a massive rescue operation, with more than two thousand people directly involved in the search. If you include the residents responsible for logistics and support teams, then nearly half of the people in Muxi City joined this operation to save the king.
After two hours of clearing work, rescuers finally cleared the path through the cave and found the ground exit at the other end of the cave—a low-lying mudflat near the sea in the north of the city.
Rachel and Jerome led the pack at the head of the procession, accompanied by the alien creatures that could track scents; the garrison of Twilight City, responsible for protection and combat, followed closely behind; Elijah supported Master Terence, leading the teachers and students of Twilight Academy, and followed behind; behind them were hundreds of civilians who had volunteered to join the search party.
As the group emerged from the cave's exit, leaving behind the dark underground world, bright sunlight once again shone upon the earth.
"Wait a minute."
Rachel's words brought the team to a halt.
In the vast mudflats of the sea, stood a girl dressed in a white princess dress. Her right foot was on a rock on the mudflat, and she was playing with a strange dagger in her left hand. She stood there smiling and looking at everyone.
Someone in the crowd recognized the girl: "I know her, she's Viscount Zangner's daughter, Nancy..."
As the aliens and soldiers laid down their weapons and approached the girl, Mary in the crowd suddenly frowned.
The activation of her "Hyperthymesia" ability brought back memories of a party held in the Silver Ring Kingdom four years prior. Viscount Zangner had brought his beloved daughter as an invitation; the girl, not yet ten years old, had played the lute and presented her with a garland. However, she remembered that the girl had used her right hand throughout the entire performance…
At the royal invitation a few days ago, Mary recalled that when Nancy pressed her handprint to receive the Silver Moon, she used her left hand!
Finally realizing the source of the discord, Mary's eyes widened, and she shouted at the crowd heading forward, "Come back! That girl isn't Nancy!"
But it was all too late.
Nancy… or perhaps she should be called Sabrina, lightly touched the stone with her toes, and her body, like a petrel skimming the wind, darted across the muddy beach, leaping high and jumping into the soldiers' formation.
The peculiar dagger in her hand, with its swift, slashing, thrusting, and swinging movements, was like that of a master who had immersed herself in martial arts for hundreds of years, whose every move was unmatched.
The mudflat terrain restricted the soldiers' movements and also prevented the alien species from attacking.
With over two hundred years of combat experience and reflexes, Sabrina weaves through crowds and attacks. Every time she swings her dagger, she finds the best angle and perfect attack route. Anyone facing her dagger often dies before they can even see her shadow.
Rachel said to Jerome with a suspicious look, "If the guy in the cave who was in charge of scouting ahead was the seventh in line—Ivan, then it means that this girl, who might be from the 'Dissident Legion,' is ranked higher, not lower."
Jerome continued, picking up where Rachel left off: "Of the top six, the first in line—the Grand Master—cannot leave the headquarters; the second in line—the Vice-Grand Master—should be stationed in the Holy City; and of the remaining four, the only one who could possibly be here..."
