Chapter 26 Relief Society shuhaige.net

It was another lively night, with significantly more tourists than the first day.

The monastery had four people.

Following the mysterious figure from the first day, Huggins was the first to disappear without a trace.

Next was Edgar, who, halfway through his trip, chose to go see a water show called Sunset Mermaid.

The monks who brought little Jerry kept their promise and came to the Black Sheep's stage as invited.

When the performance began, Todd was deeply impressed by the scene that combined supernatural abilities with acrobatic skills. He found it hard to believe that the graceful figure dancing in the air was the same person as the black-haired, black-eyed girl he had met in the lab that afternoon.

Just as he remained silent, immersed in his senses, an untimely voice rang in his ears.

"Mr. Todd, do you have a moment?"

The monk looked in the direction of the sound and saw a dark figure, the man who had claimed to be the circus ringmaster last night, standing in the shadowy corner of the tent, smiling and watching him.

After thinking for a while, somewhat reluctantly, he finally stood up and followed the man out of the tent. Seeing this, Little Jerry quickly followed him out as well.

Todd, however, did not see the girl who had been glancing at him from time to time, who had stopped her performance on the high platform in the air and was looking at his departing figure with a worried expression.

The three walked around half of the tent and arrived at the backstage preparation room.

The circus ringmaster pushed open the wooden window of the room, and the clear moonlight flowed into the room along the windowsill. He took a deep breath and made a pleasant sound from his nose.

"I have wine, mead, and pomegranate juice here. Mr. Todd, would you like something?"

The boy touched the bridge of his nose with his finger and shook his head, rejecting the other person's suggestion.

The man shrugged, casually opened the seal of the leather tube, and took a small sip of the liquid inside.

What is your impression of the downtown circus?

Todd hesitated for a moment, carefully choosing the words to say: "Lively, interesting, and so enjoyable that you won't want to leave."

Looking at the boy's face, the circus ringmaster nodded with a hint of regret: "Your words are so polite, but your expression tells me that you've seen a lot more."

Todd chuckled self-deprecatingly: "Really? People who know me always say I'm not good at lying."

"So... do you know about Sutherland's relics?"

The sudden question left the boy frozen in place. His intuition told him he should deny it immediately, but his body was stiff and he couldn't make any movement.

Seeing the other person's embarrassment, the man patted the windowsill and laughed, saying, "Hahaha, that's absolutely right, you really are not good at lying!"

After saying this, he reached out and led Todd and Jerry deeper into a hidden compartment behind the wall. A simple wooden table and four plain chairs appeared before them, and a picture of a crown of thorns hung on the wall, with a line of small Latin writing below it.

Relief Society.

The circus ringmaster sat down in the chair directly opposite the door, gesturing for Todd to sit opposite him, while little Jerry, being too big, could only sit on the floor with his knees drawn up to his chest.

The man straightened his collar and his smile faded: "You can call me Throat Bones. I'm a member of the relief association."

Seeing the puzzled look on the person opposite him, the man with the throat bone asked in surprise, "Didn't anyone mention the name of the relief association to you when you joined?"

After a moment, he sighed and said, "Only the ignorant and narrow-minded would fantasize that alien species can still be accepted by the world."

Todd tentatively asked, "What kind of relief organization are you talking about?"

“Speaking of the relief society, we must first talk about the origins of us aliens.” The man took out a stack of cardboard cards from his pocket and spread them on the table.

Todd examined them closely. Each card featured a different design, with different words written in Latin on the edges: Emperor, Magician, Sun, Death, and so on. There were 22 cards in total.

He thought to himself, "These seem to be the tarot cards I used in my past life, usually for divination and fortune telling."

“These cards were made by the alchemists of the ancient Tarot Empire's palaces to distinguish between different races… Oh, sorry, back then we were called the Divine Descendants. In those days, the Divine Descendants were at the top of the power pyramid, ruling over mortals.” After shuffling the Tarot cards, the throat bone drew the top Moon and placed it on the table: “Back then, the Tarot Empire had a complex religious landscape. The rulers, being Divine Descendants, mostly worshipped the three main gods: Sky, War, and Order. As time passed, the rarity and variability of the Divine Descendant bloodline caused this group to dwindle, and mortals in the Supreme Council gradually gained the upper hand…”

Turning over the second card, the image of the tower appeared before Todd, and the throat bone continued, "A revolution was first launched by religious forces, and then swept across the entire empire. The original freedom of religion was abolished, and monotheism of the Father became the state religion. The divine descendants were insulted as heretics, all heretics and skeptics were arrested and killed, and any books and documents that recorded the divine descendants were burned to ashes."

The third card, Wheel of Fortune, was placed on the far right.

"In that chaotic and violent era, an alchemist named Sutherland stepped forward and led the survivors of the divine lineage to migrate eastward across the continent. In the ensuing war, the sage Sutherland, in order to protect this last remaining bloodline, chose to face the army alone and cover the retreat. After he died from exhaustion, his body was burned by the enemy for seven days and seven nights, leaving no ashes but ashes scattered everywhere."

He gathered the cards back together and placed them in his palm. He untied the leather tube from his waist and took another sip: "After that, we, who were once the pinnacle of divine lineage, became a group of alien beings who fled from place to place. For survival and for revenge, the remaining bloodlines chose to unite, and that's how the relief association came into being."
