An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Todd looked at the kneeling manticore before him, hesitating.
Standing behind him, Rachel asked in a low voice, "What's going on?"
Todd told her everything that had happened during the day, including the events of "another soul world."
Rachel's first reaction was to grab Todd's hand and give him a look that directly rejected her.
The latter looked at the monster in front of him, patted Rachel's hand, and comforted her, "If the other party wanted to harm me, they could have done so this morning in his 'soul space.' Besides, I've thought about it for a long time, and if we want to return to the Kingdom of Muxi safely, it will be difficult for us to do it on our own."
Rachel still seemed to disagree with the dangerous idea: "It's too risky."
Todd shook his head: "I know, but in the current situation, we have almost no choice. Once we enter their 'soul space,' if anything seems amiss, immediately disconnect me... You know what to do..."
Seeing that he couldn't persuade Todd and knowing he had no other choice, Rachel nodded helplessly.
Looking at the lion head in front of him, Todd took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and placed his hand on it.
The pull from his consciousness was so powerful that Todd's soul could barely offer any resistance before being pulled into a tunnel spinning at the speed of light.
A moment later, Todd's consciousness entered darkness, he heard the sound of seawater, and his body sank rapidly against his will.
Giant sea serpents, lanternfish, colorful jellyfish... all sorts of strange creatures gathered around Todd, swimming around curiously and stopping to observe.
A shadow, like an underwater mountain range, rose from the seabed, filling the entire space and dispersing the creatures.
Todd's falling body landed on a solid yet springy "ground".
He reached down and touched himself; the texture was three parts metal and seven parts rubber.
Standing on the "land," Todd looked around at this strange landmass on the seabed, which stretched as far as the eye could see, like another world immersed in the ocean.
A deep, booming sound, like thunderclouds on the horizon, drew ever closer.
"Half-Human."
Todd looked around for the source of the sound, and soon realized that it was coming from beneath his feet.
An eye, the size of a hill, slowly opened in the darkness and looked at Todd.
"It's you..."
Todd was somewhat surprised; he hadn't expected that the master of the other soul world was actually that giant beast from the sea.
"You...are different..."
The beast's roar was like thunder, so loud that Todd involuntarily covered his ears.
“You… do not belong to this world.” A tremor ran through the giant beast’s body, causing Todd to lose his balance and fall to the ground.
The enormous eyeball stared at Todd, its pupils shrinking to the size of a frozen sea.
The behemoth's voice softened, its tone filled with sorrow and despair: "But, in any world, humanity is the same... the lifespan of a rat, the strength of an ant, the mindset of a locust. You utilize every possible resource to acquire mates, dominate other races, slaughter the innocent, and live for immediate gratification. This! This is the ultimate pursuit of humanity!"
The beast's roar grew increasingly furious, until finally it sounded like a volcanic eruption, echoing throughout the entire soul space.
Todd was forced to the ground by a tremendous force of consciousness, unable to put up any resistance, or even move a little finger.
Looking into the eyes before him, Todd strained to shout, "Who are you?"
"I?!"
A captivating light shone from the behemoth's eyes: "Throughout human history, my name is as numerous as the stars in the night sky—the Demon Eye… Kraken… Leviathan…"
As if remembering something, the giant beast's voice grew fainter and fainter.
"I once trusted humanity, helped humanity, and fought for you, but you have disappointed me time and time again."
Feeling the pressure gradually lessen, Todd struggled to his feet and looked at the eyeball before him: "Then, I'll still call you 'Leviathan.' Leviathan, I admit that humans do have all sorts of flaws; most of us are greedy, selfish, power-hungry, and cruel. But... in all this time, haven't you ever encountered a single kind human being? Not a single one?!"
Leviathan paused for a moment, then refocused his gaze on Todd: "Decades ago, there was a young female human who, against the wishes of her own kind, healed many of my children."
Todd nodded vigorously and said, "See, Leviathan, this is what I was trying to say. Not all humans are evil; there are good people among us. You can't completely negate an entire race..."
Leviathan interrupted Todd: "My story isn't over yet. In return, I told her the secret of racial evolution and gave this female human the ability of 'Soul Link' as a gift."
Upon hearing this, Todd's expression grew increasingly serious, and a bad premonition arose within him.
"But do you know what happened to her?" Leviathan's voice grew heavy. "She was devoured alive by her own kind! Simply because someone coveted her power!"
Clarence, you bastard, you're still causing trouble even after you're dead...
Todd rubbed the bridge of his nose hard, looking distressed. "Leviathan, there must be more than one kind human being like him, right?"
