Chapter 264 Camp Attack (Page 1/1)
Todd, who had been given the Amber Stone by Leviathan, placed it in the pouch behind his back and was holding Rachel in his arms, looked at the woman standing beside him and said gratefully, "Meredis, thank you for everything you have done for us. I owe you a favor."
Meredith blinked and said with a smile, "It would be best if you could remember it."
Todd paused, then asked, "Are we just leaving like this, to your master's place...?"
"The Land of Shadows is like a home to those who pass the trials; you can come and go as you please."
Todd followed the ridge of the snow-capped peak, took one last look at the sea of fog shrouding the land of shadows, tightened his grip on the reins, and shouted.
Henry the Griffin stood upright, its enormous wings spreading wide. The resulting gust of wind blew the snow from the ground into the air, and its body slowly lifted off the ground amidst the swirling snowflakes, soaring into the sky.
The feeling of flying on a griffin is far superior to the turbulence and stress experienced when an airplane has just taken off.
Experiencing the exhilarating feeling of flying, a sensation he hadn't felt in a long time, Todd's heart pounded, and the excitement brought on by his hormones filled him with joy.
Rachel, however, buried her body in Todd's arms and screamed in terror the moment the plane took off.
Flying above the ridge of the snow-capped mountains, the icy wind rushed towards them, and their bodies were lifted upwards by gravity.
In less than five minutes, the griffin flew down the mountain against the wind, swept over the temple, and headed toward the edge of the Shadow Kingdom.
Cú Chulainn stood in the open space behind the temple, holding a huge rock in both hands, doing his daily strength training.
A figure whistled past, accompanied by a clear bird's cry, quickly sweeping over his head.
Cú Chulainn looked up and was utterly stunned by what he saw: "There's someone sitting on that thing! How is that possible?!"
His hands slipped, and the boulder fell, landing squarely on his feet.
With a scream, Cú Chulainn clutched his foot and rolled on the ground in agony.
Scáthach, the queen of the Shadow Kingdom, stood before the broken statue in the center of the temple, watching the fleeting glimpse of a griffin in the damaged courtyard, and murmured, "Perhaps..."
She closed her eyes, her purple hair and red eyes gleaming, and shook her head: "So what? The result is always the same..."
The griffin flew over dense forests, arena ruins, vine gardens, and misty coastlines, finally reaching the vast ocean.
Flying low over the sea, the griffin's shadow is cast on the water by the sun, attracting a group of barracudas to leap out of the water.
The air was no longer as cold as it had been. Todd and Rachel poked their heads out of their clothes, leaned slightly, and reached their hands under the griffin.
The azure waves under the sunlight danced and leaped between their fingertips.
In the distance, the coast of the Kingdom of Ulster drew ever closer.
Todd, who was connected to Henry by soul, felt the fear and tension in Henry's heart growing stronger and stronger.
The attacks he had suffered in the barbarian kingdoms in the past, and those painful memories, made Henry the Griffin slow down and become hesitant in his movements.
Todd bent down, gently patted the griffin, and whispered a few words to it.
The latter rallied its spirits, spread its wings, increased its altitude, and swooped straight towards the Kingdom of Ulster.
Holding Rachel tightly with both hands and gripping the reins firmly, Todd lay on the griffin's back, feeling the wind pressure from the creature flying at full speed beneath him.
The screams coming from the kingdom's city reached Todd's ears. He looked down and everything in the world seemed to be slowly shrinking, houses becoming mosaics and people becoming specks of dust.
After flying for almost another hour, Todd felt the griffin's wings flapping at a slower and slower frequency. He shouted to Rachel in his arms, "We need to find a place to land."
Rachel squeezed her eyes shut, her face deathly pale: "Hurry! Get that bird down!"
Using his 'Eagle Eye' to observe the surrounding terrain, Todd adjusted the griffin's direction based on his memory and flew towards the 'Froststone Tribe'.
The destination was hidden in the forest, and locating it from the sky was not an easy task, but Todd found the campsite without breaking a sweat.
Because thick black smoke was billowing above the Froststone tribe's camp, which could be easily seen even from several kilometers away.
Commanding the griffin to fly over the destination, Todd repeatedly checked the camp below before slowly landing on the ground after confirming it was safe.
The Froststone tribe camp was reduced to ruins, with no trace of any living people left; all the buildings had been burned to the ground.
The charred wood still emitted smoke, and signs of a struggle were visible everywhere on the ground, with undried blood splattered on weapons and arrows.
Henry the griffin loathed the smell in the air and cried out as it backed away. It took Todd a great deal of effort to calm it down.
Unable to adapt to flying, the first thing Rachel did after landing was to find a corner and dry heave for a long time.
After calming down a bit, she walked over to Todd, picked up a broken arrow, pointed to the markings on it, and said weakly, "Ulster Slavemen."
Todd took the arrow, glanced at the mark, and looked around at the ruins. He inadvertently caught a glimpse of a figure flashing before his eyes.
Using his "Speed" ability, Todd caught up with the figure. He turned the other person's shoulder and saw a boy's face that looked somewhat familiar.
“You are…” Todd searched his memory carefully for a while, and suddenly remembered that this was the tribal boy he had saved from the griffin’s jaws.
The boy's face was covered in soot, and he squatted on the ground, shivering and sobbing softly.
It took Todd a long time to get some details out of him, and through reasoning, he finally got a general idea of what had happened.
The Kingdom of Ulster suffered a defeat in the south, and its army was severely depleted, forcing it to capture tribal members to replenish its ranks.
The capture of the Froststone tribe was a surprise attack carried out in the dead of night.
The slave-hunting army of the Kingdom of Ulster had sealed off the basin's exit beforehand. Under the cover of night, they climbed over the hills, creating chaos and driving the tribe's villagers into a pre-arranged trap.
The entire tribe, including Boyle and the old shaman, was captured and sent to the slave quarters of the Kingdom of Ulster.
"Was there a Southern woman with a leg injury caught too?" Todd crouched down and asked the boy.
The latter shook his head with a bewildered look, causing Todd to sigh deeply.
Rachel looked at Todd and asked softly, "What should we do now?"
Todd rubbed his temples, replying with a headache, "I'm not good at owing favors."
