Chapter 287 The Great Escape (Part 3)

Todd's appearance sparked a frenzy of cheers in the arena.

Many of the spectators in the stands had witnessed his battles firsthand. They stood up and shouted the nickname "Red Champion" with all their might for this rising star in the arena.

Unlike Conchiaber, whose face was as black as the bottom of a pot, Queen Maeve straightened up and looked with interest at the lone figure in the center of the arena, whispering to her attendant, "Is this the legendary warrior who fought ten against one?"

After receiving an affirmative answer from the servant, Maeve smiled and clapped: "After watching a boring show all morning, it's time for me to see a real battle."

Conchierber's eyes twitched, his tone filled with contempt and hostility: "Queen Maeve, this is nothing but a clown who deceives the masses with his clumsy performance. Today's final battle will expose his true colors!"

Todd, who was completely unaware of what was happening on the platform, glanced back at the slowly lowering winch gate behind him and nodded slightly to Ackerman and Kasper, who looked worried, on the other side of the fence.

A moment later, two large iron gates on either side of Todd slowly rose up.

A group of North Islanders and a group of Plainsmen filed out from the two doorways.

The two groups were led by two different people. One was tall and strong, with his beard tied into a small braid and his body covered with blue rune patterns. The other was hunched over with long fingers, large eyes, and a ring of throwing knives hanging from his waist.

"Boss! That North Island guy is the Mountain Giant Cotton, and that hunchback is the Cunning Fox Bessen. Be careful!"

Ackerman's voice came from behind him, and Todd looked at the number of people and composition of the two teams on the left and right.

The North Islanders numbered 15, all axe-and-shield bearers. The Plainsmen, in total, numbered 18, consisting of shield bearers, spearmen, and archers. Todd, on the other hand, was all alone.

Seeing this strange situation on the field, someone in the audience recalled the ten-on-one battle and said suspiciously, "Could it be that this time the Red Champion will have to fight two teams one-on-one?"

"Moreover, the Mountain Giant Cotton and the Cunning Fox Bessen are in there too. What kind of gladiatorial combat is this?!"

"That's not fair!"

The audience erupted in noise and boos, which made Conchierber's expression even more unpleasant.

Fortunately, these doubts didn't last long. The gladiators' true enemy was soon revealed.

As the iron gate on the other side of the arena rose, a hundred-strong army, fully armed to the teeth and covered in gleaming armor, marched into the arena in orderly steps.

Queen Maeve frowned as she looked at the large flag carried by the standard-bearer at the rear, the conspicuous emblem on it making her furrow her brow.

She turned to Conchuber and said with a sneer, "You actually sent the Royal Guard of Ulster to participate in the gladiatorial combat?"

“Why not?” Conchuber leaned back in his chair, a look of pleasure on his face. “It is an honor for these slaves to have the opportunity to fight against my direct army! Only in this way can everyone clearly recognize the power of Ulster.”

Vulgar, a favorite minister standing beside the king, walked to the railing and gestured to the scribe in the hall.

The clerk nodded knowingly, walked to the stands, and shouted, "The final battle will be between the Red Circle Gladiators and the Ulster Guard. This is a clash of strength and discipline, a confrontation between barbarity and civilization!"

Watching the opposing army slowly unfold its formation, mimicking the ancient Tauro battle formation, Todd raised his shield and began moving towards the edge of the field, attempting to flank the enemy and find a weakness in their formation.

Before he could take a few steps back, his body suddenly crashed into a shield.

Todd turned around and saw the Mountain Giant Cotton shoving him with his shield, a malicious smile on his face: "Red Champion, where are you going? Our enemy is right in front of us."

Looking around, Todd finally discovered the conspiracy behind the battle.

The shield formation of the North Island gladiators and the square formation of the Plainsmen subtly blocked all of Todd's escape routes.

The two teams appeared to be fighting alongside him, but in reality, they were pushing him into the enemy's formation.

This is not a fair fight at all. Two faction leaders who are hostile to Todd, along with a bunch of die-hards, plan to join forces to send this rising rival to the abyss of death first.

Just then, a unified roar came from the other side of the field, and the Ulster Guard raised their shields, their spears pointing forward through the gaps between the shields.

Todd tried to dodge the spears, but his body was pushed forward by his teammates.

If Todd were to retreat at this point, he would inevitably have to fight the gladiators, and would likely earn a reputation for desertion and attacking his own teammates.

After considering all the pros and cons, Todd tightened his grip on his shield and spear. Instead of retreating, he broke free from the shield formation and accelerated towards the enemy's phalanx.

Cotton stared in disbelief at the figure running faster and faster, and said, "Has this guy gone mad?"

Conchierber and Maeve, standing on the platform, were astonished to see the figure charging forward in the arena and stood up from their chairs.

All the spectators in the stadium stopped talking and didn't even dare to breathe loudly as they watched that rapidly advancing figure.

At fifty meters, forty meters, and thirty meters, Todd could already see the astonished look in the enemy's eyes beneath their helmets.

With the commander's loud order, the Royal Guard archers launched the first attack, and a dozen steel arrows came swiftly, sealing every part of Todd's body.
