After a three-hour palace meeting, Todd, exhausted, walked down the corridor toward his bedchamber, led by Huggins.
"How are Henry the Griffin's food and lodging arrangements going?"
Huggins paused for a moment, then replied, "You mean that war beast? As you instructed, we've placed it in the Knights' stables and prepared roast meat and flatbread, but the problem is..."
Todd stopped and turned to ask, "It attacked humans?"
"No, but all the horses in the stables were so frightened by it that they were biting and kicking and wouldn't stay in place. Also, many people ran to the vicinity of headquarters and tried to climb over the wall to enter the stables just to see the war beast. The guards tried to disperse them, but it wasn't very effective."
Todd waved his hand dismissively: "In a couple of days, once the novelty wears off, everything will be normal."
Huggins nodded in agreement.
After walking about a hundred meters further, Todd looked at the seemingly endless corridor and asked Huggins, "How much longer do we have to walk?"
"It's another fifteen minutes' walk."
Todd asked in surprise, "Just how big is this castle?"
"Two main buildings, five watchtowers, twelve sentry towers, thirty-six connecting corridors, and two royal gardens, one in front and one behind."
"So big?!"
"The entire palace is only half-built. The Muxi Academy is designing its largest, most complex, and most magnificent fountain. The Muxi Craftsmen's Association is creating a full-body bronze statue of you. The Commercial Guild has procured various rare and exotic animals from all over the world, planning to build a hunting ground in the palace's rear garden. In addition, there's an observatory, vineyards, a racetrack…"
"Wait, wait!" Todd looked at the carpet that stretched down the corridor and then at the famous paintings on the walls, asking with considerable confusion, "Building this palace must have cost a lot of money, right? If I remember correctly, the Holy Treasury doesn't have that much money!"
Huggins looked at the king with a strange gaze and sighed, "Your Majesty, please come with me."
After saying this, Haskins changed direction and walked deeper into the palace.
Todd followed behind him, crossing a wide ramp below the palace and entering a heavily guarded underground hall resembling a bank counter.
The king's appearance caused everyone in the hall to stop what they were doing and bow in respect to Todd.
Nodding and smiling, Todd asked in a low voice, "Where exactly is this place?"
“You’ll find out soon enough.” Huggins continued walking forward.
After passing through several more checkpoints, Huggins stopped in front of a group of people with alien markings on their chests and said to Todd, "Your Majesty, they need to verify the identities of visitors to ensure that those entering do not use supernatural abilities such as shapeshifting, charm, or possession. Even you must undergo the check, please bear with it."
Todd expressed his understanding, after all, Clarence's superpowers had almost caused the collapse of the Kingdom of Twilight, so it was only natural to strengthen the inspection in this regard.
After the inspection, the two proceeded deeper into the underground palace, passing through a peculiar corridor, opening a heavy lead door, and finally arriving at a maze-like network of underground passages.
"What exactly did you hide underground in the palace?"
Huggins walked to a room, took out a key from his pocket, unlocked the hidden lock on the door, and gently pushed the door open. The blinding light inside made Todd, who had just adjusted to the darkness, squint uncomfortably.
"This is?!"
The room wasn't large, only seven meters long and wide, and no more than three meters high. In the center was a deep pool filled with all sorts of gold coins, overflowing the edge and nearly reaching the ceiling. Flames rising from the walls shone on the surface of the coins, casting a bright golden glow.
Todd stepped into the room and stared at the room full of gold coins, speechless for a long time.
Huggins glanced at the register outside the door and said to Todd, "There are 87,435 gold coins stored here, including currency used by the Southern Empire and coins used by the Northern Barbarians. According to their weight and purity, converted into parish currency, they are roughly equivalent to 90,000 gold coins."
Todd finally came to his senses. He turned to Huggins and asked incredulously, "You mean, all this money belongs to me?"
The latter smiled helplessly, leading Todd out of the room and continuing down the corridor: "Your Majesty, I think you still don't understand the situation."
Harkins led Todd into the maze-like corridor outside the door, walked a short distance further, pointed to the countless doors on both sides, and said to the latter, "Please pick any door and look at the sign on it."
Todd walked randomly to a door and looked closely at the sign on it, which read the following.
On October 13, 1172, the gold coins were packed and sealed in a vault, totaling 170,000.
After changing to another door, Todd looked at the sign again.
The warehouse was sealed on October 16, 1172. It contained 7,625 grams of top-grade gemstones, 1 gram of first-grade gemstones, and 55 boxes of other types.
Todd took a deep breath, pointed to the door, and asked Huggins, "How many rooms like this were built?"
"A total of 120 rooms were built, and 109 rooms are currently fully stocked with gold coins, gems, utensils, antiques, and everything else imaginable..."
Todd felt his brain was starting to overload: "Has the total value of these assets been calculated?"
Huggins thought for a moment and said, "Only Lady Mary knows the specific figures and list. But the total inventory is roughly equivalent to four to five million gold coins, which is forty to fifty million silver coins, and this number is growing rapidly."
