Chapter 308 The King's Leisurely Day (Part 1)

Three days later, the first diplomatic mission from Muxi City, under the watchful eyes of the people, assembled, prepared, and set off from the camp outside the city; dozens of wagons loaded with grain, escorted by hundreds of soldiers, marched in a grand procession toward the eastern border.

Todd stood on the palace's terrace, watching the winding procession outside the city, his hands gripping the railing tightly.

“Your Majesty, the delegation has gone far. Let’s go back.” Harkins said softly, leaning on a newly made cane, standing behind Todd.

Looking up at the faint, cold mist in the sky, Todd tightened his collar, his eyes unfocused: "It's going to snow."

Huggins looked up at the sky as instructed and whispered, "This winter will probably be colder than usual."

The two left the terrace and followed the passageway back to the central courtyard of the palace.

Huggins glanced outside and said to Todd, "Your Majesty, you've been busy arranging the mission these past few days. Now that you have some free time, what would you like to do?"

Todd was somewhat surprised to hear the word "free time," as rest was a very distant concept for him.

In his previous life, he could sleep in late and watch a movie on holidays.

But since arriving in this other world, Todd realized that it had been far too long since he had been able to calm down and catch his breath.

After thinking for a moment, Huggins suggested, "How about seeing a play? The Grand Theatre is showing 'The Solitary Traveler' right now, and every performance is sold out."

Todd shook his head, thinking to himself that it would be better to return to the Soul Space and rewatch the movies he had already seen than to watch a play.

"How's the hunting? The hunting grounds to the north have just been built, and there are many animals roaming freely there. Horses and hunting bows are located near the royal palace."

Todd shook his head again. He had no interest in this kind of entertainment popular among medieval nobles. Riding on horseback, wielding a bow and arrow, chasing a herd of animals scattering in all directions—it just seemed a bit silly to him.

However, when the hunt came up, Todd remembered something.

"How did things go with my last request to release Henry the Griffin?"

Huggins' face showed a strange expression: "Is this your war beast? As you instructed, we dismantled all the fences that restricted its movement, but it just won't leave Twilight City."

Todd looked on with curiosity: "Come on, let's go to the stables and see it."

Huggins arranged a carriage and guards, and accompanied the king to the stables of the Knights of Twilight's headquarters.

As soon as Todd stepped off the carriage, he heard Henry's shrill shout.

"What's going on?" Todd jumped off the carriage and hurriedly pushed open the stable door, only to see a scene that made him both laugh and cry.

Two cooks, a row of grills, and three large basins of fresh meat.

Henry the Griffin lay belly-up, hind legs outstretched, eyes fixed on the fork tumbling in the cook's hand, emitting an impatient shriek.

Whenever a chef places a grilled steak on Henry's plate, he always examines the color, oil content, thickness, and tenderness of the meat with the discerning eye of a gourmet. Only after confirming its quality will he slowly eat the food.

The monk in charge of the Knights' stables ran all the way to Todd and the first thing he did was complain, "Your Majesty, no matter what we do, this fellow just won't leave! He's already eaten up half of the funds we've allocated for buying hay this month!"

Todd looked at the griffin's round belly, sighed helplessly, and went directly into the soul space to find Henry.

Seeing the griffin looking around, Todd made a flying gesture with his hands and said to Henry, "Don't you miss the sky?"

Henry opened his beak, made a roasting meat shape with his wings, and looked smug.

Todd rolled his eyes and made a ball shape with his hand: "Don't you miss your child?"

Henry's wings hovered in mid-air, his eyes slowly filling with tenderness. A moment later, he stood upright and let out a long howl into the sky.

Todd walked up to the griffin, gently patted its head, and whispered, "Bring your family to Twilight City. Here, at least you won't have to worry about food."

As if he understood what he was saying, Henry nuzzled Todd's cheek with his head and flapped his wings happily.

Leaving the spirit world, Todd said to the stable servants, "Go find one of those canvas sacks used on mules and horses."

Soon, people brought a double-bag that was attached to the back of a mule or horse by a canvas.

Todd picked up the canvas bag, tied it up for Griffin Henry himself, stuffed a lot of cotton into the bag, and then patted him on the neck.

Noticing Henry's gaze fixed on the grilled steak, Todd had the meat wrapped in parchment paper and stuffed into the bag.

Having done all this, Henry closed his eyes, nuzzled Todd's cheek again, and walked towards the open space in the middle of the stables, turning back every few steps. He flapped his wings vigorously, his body slowly lifting off the ground and rising into the air.

Watching the figure in the sky grow ever larger, Todd closed his eyes and let out a long sigh. Turning around, he saw the monks and servants in the stables embracing each other, tears welling in their eyes.

These people kept cheering, saying, "Finally! That terrible monster is finally gone!"

"The monster you speak of will soon return to Twilight City with his wife and children."

Todd chose to keep this news a secret for the time being. He found it very amusing to even think about the expressions on the faces of those people when the griffins once again circled over the kingdom.
