Chapter 309 The King's Leisurely Day (Part 2)

Upon entering the main entrance of the government building, Todd's first sight was a tall bronze statue standing in the center of the lobby on the first floor.

This bronze statue holds the Bible to its chest with one hand, while the other hand is raised towards the sky with its palm facing upward. The overall design adopts the sculpting techniques of the ancient Tauro period. The facial features are three-dimensional and full like those of a mythological figure, the eyes are firm and charismatic, and the body lines are full of explosive muscle tension, making it a breathtaking sight.

While Huggins was busy maintaining order with the guards, he suddenly heard Todd's voice behind him: "Whose statue is this?"

Harkins turned his head with difficulty and gave Todd an awkward smile: "Of course it's you!"

Todd, who almost couldn't catch his breath, opened his eyes wide and looked at the sculpture again, cursing inwardly, "This doesn't look like me at all!"

Because Todd rarely appears in public, when the news of the King's appearance at the Government House spread among the crowds, a surging tide of people pushed and shoved their way into the hall, all in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the King.

As more and more people poured into the hall, and soldiers and officials struggled to maintain order, Todd abandoned his plan to stay and walked through the hall to the back of the first floor of the government hall.

Pushing open the door, a church chapel that Todd found familiar and welcoming came into view.

The old benches were neatly arranged, the cracked floor was swept clean, and the cross, pulpit, and candle holders brought back a flood of memories for Todd.

Huggins came up behind him and said softly, "Everything here is exactly the same as it used to be."

Todd nodded: "Yeah, same as before."

The two people in the room fell silent, filled with emotion as they recalled the hardships they had endured over the past few years.

After lingering for about five minutes, Todd came to the back corridor through the side door and went up the spiral staircase to the second floor.

Joe, Elijah, Ulysses, and others, along with officials of various ranks, waited early in the second-floor hall to welcome the king's arrival.

Harkins walked over to Todd and said, "Everyone at the level of director or above in agriculture, personnel, and urban planning is here. The tax and legal departments are absent due to official business. As for the business department..."

Thinking of the Raglan couple, Todd sighed and said to Huggins, "Let the kingdom's chief advisors stay, and the rest of you return to your posts and continue working."

A few minutes later, only Brother Joe, who was in charge of agriculture, Elijah, who was in charge of urban planning, and Ulysses remained as officials.

Harkins said to Todd, "Lord Emerson, who manages the personnel department, rarely comes to the government hall because he also serves as the royal privy councilor. Most of the affairs are handled by the second advisor, Ulysses."

Todd nodded, moved around, and while touring the government affairs hall, said to everyone, "Please introduce your respective departments."

Brother Joe, who was in charge of agriculture, said first: "Your Majesty, the agricultural department is mainly responsible for agricultural affairs of the kingdom, from seed selection to the construction of granaries, all of which are within our responsibilities. As for the composition of the department's officials, apart from scholars in agronomy, they are mainly composed of the three major monastic orders of Saint Sidlow, Milage, and Svorenfk. Currently, there are twelve branches and a total of 96 officials."

Elijah, who was in charge of urban planning, had only met Todd a few times, but he left a very deep impression on the latter.

The reason is simple: this prized student of Master Terence far surpasses the average person in terms of knowledge and expertise.

Not only is he the current head of the kingdom's urban planning, but according to Todd, he is also the designer and painter of the Twilight Cathedral, the president of the Drama and Performance Association, and even a ship and ordnance designer in the Twilight Shipyard and the Twilight Knights.

"Your Majesty, the Urban Planning Department is primarily responsible for the city's regional planning and building restrictions, including the allocation of land for arable land, forest land, pasture, commercial, residential, and industrial use. In addition, we are also responsible for the planning and construction of the city's sewers, irrigation canals, and waste transportation channels. It has nine sub-departments and a total of 63 officials."

Finally, it was Ulysses' turn.

This young man in his early twenties was the oldest of the three and the only one who was acting as the department head.

“Your Majesty, three months ago, I passed the examination and became the secretary of Grand Master Emerson. When you are away, I am in charge of the kingdom’s public personnel affairs. This mainly includes the acquisition, review and deprivation of urban resident status, the organization and planning of official examinations, the external recruitment of public facility maintenance personnel, and the promotion and demotion of all officials. There are now twelve sub-departments with a total of 128 officials.”

Todd listened to the report while wandering around each floor.

After looking around, he was surprised to find that many of the design elements here were actually inspired by the research institute in the Soul Space.

Vertical partitions that separate people, glass cabinets for storing documents and reports, and fully equipped break rooms.

Turning his gaze to Elijah behind him, Todd asked, "Did you design all of this?"

"Yes, Your Majesty, I have referenced the place of the nation's founding in many ways."

Todd was taken aback: "The place of creation?"

After realizing what was going on, Todd thought to himself: You can name it whatever you want, it's not an important thing anyway.

After looking around the government hall, Todd had a simple lunch with everyone before boarding the carriage again.

"Next, let's go to Muxi University."
